LOOP WINTER 2017 Cal Poly students in the Real Estate Club take a tour of the new Salesforce tower under construction in downtown San Francisco.

A MESSAGE FROM INTERIM DEAN KEVIN LERTWACHARA Happy new year to all! I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday break. 2016 has flown by so fast, and we are now embarking on another productive year. I’m particularly excited to host another excellent line up of Executives in Residence this quarter. Assistant Dean Mary Kelting has been working tirelessly to connect our alumni and supporters with Orfalea’s faculty and students. We have so many great alumni who have been very supportive and eager to engage with us. Thanks to your continued support and participation to make the EIR program a successful initiative. With an emphasis on career readiness and industry partnership, our students continue to thrive. The number of companies recruiting Orfalea students is ever expanding. In November, four of our students, led by Sharon Dobson, participated and presented at the Global Women’s Leadership Summit and Women in Finance Networking event hosted by Oracle in Boston. High-level executives from multinational corporations such GE, General

Motors, Keurig, and Lockheed-Martin were in attendance and were very much impressed by the quality and professionalism of our students. They truly made us proud! I also look forward to continuing our conversation about faculty governance. I have asked the governance task force to present to the full faculty an update on what they have been working on this quarter. I think it’s important to have all faculty — junior and senior as well as lecturers — involved in the process to create a healthy governance structure for the college. I’d like to thank task force members Barry Floyd, Eric Fisher, Eric Olsen, Larry Gorman, Norm Borin, Rodney Mock and Stern Neill for their hard work.

Warm wishes and have a great new year!
