Mannum Christmas Pageant th
he 13 Mannum Christmas Pageant presented by the Mannum Progress Association will be the towns biggest yet. Multiple marching bands and, leading the parade, a spectacular dance routine performed by Unlimited Feet are just some of the live acts to entertain you on Saturday 1st December! Smokey the Koala will make a guest appearance on behalf of the Country Fire Service promoting fire safety for our up and coming summer season. Lovers of country or rock music, for the first time the City Cowboys will entertain you during the parade and at the Christmas Street Party after the pageant. “We are thrilled to have so many new attractions this year and the community support has been overwhelming”, said Carol Greening,
T
Chairperson Mannum Progress Association. “Our pageant is filled with community and Christmas spirit for everyone to enjoy. “No 13 is unlucky for some, but for Mannum it will be our best pageant yet.” Pageant favourites are back; the southern Districts Pipe Band, the Strathalbyn Town Band and the Unley Concert Band playing those big sounds, bringing Christmas carols throughout Mannum’s main street. Over 70 floats including vintage cars, novelty floats and the Lutheran and Baptist Church floats depicting the true meaning of Christmas. Juggling and displays by ‘Circus Elements’ will amaze the children and let’s not forget an appearance by the grand old fella himself. Father Christmas will be giving a Christmas bag to all children under 12 at Shearer Car Park, where entertainment and food stalls will continue until the breathtaking river fireworks display at 9:30pm, which is again kindly sponsored by the Mannum Caravan Park. Bring the whole family to enjoy the Mannum Christmas Pageant on Saturday 1st December commencing at 6pm and the Mannum Christmas Street Party at Shearer Car Park with free face painting, balloons, jumping castle, the Lions famous sausage sizzle and much more! Mannum Fun Run and Walk lans for the 2012 Mannum Fun Run and Walk are in full swing, with registration numbers growing. There are novelties included which will entertain people of all ages at Mary Ann Reserve on Sunday, December 16th. The community event - set to kick off at 8:30am is open to people of all ages and abilities, with participants offered the option to walk 3km or 5km routes, or to up-the-ante and take part in the 5km or 10km running sections. (See page 4.) The Mannum Fun Run Community Steering Group has already gained huge support and sponsorship for the event, with the Mypolonga Scouts taking on responsibility for marshalling along the route, the Mannum Tennis Club keeping us hydrated with a water station along the way, and Murraylands APEX cooking up a storm to provide participants with a free healthy breakfast at the end. Steering group chairperson and Mid Murray OPAL Manager Courtney Blacker said she could now confirm that Father Christmas will be at Mary Ann Reserve on the morning of the event to give out gift bags to children aged 0-15 years. “We want this to be a community event which attracts people of all ages, so we have opened up more distance options and want to have activities for people to take part in at the Reserve when they finish,” Ms Blacker said.

“In sticking with the healthy theme, there will be a nutritious breakfast to get everyone’s Sunday morning started, as well as have ‘active’ giveaways for kids.” The prize list is growing, with sponsors donating awards including iTunes vouchers, jewellery cleaning vouchers, sports equipment and more. The event will also have a community art project running in the morning aptly titled ‘Feet First’, and run by Mid Murray Council’s new Arts and Cultural Development Officer Tis Milner-Nichols. “The Feet First project invites participants to put their best foot forward and contribute to the painted foot print canvas, or otherwise people can create their own wrapping paper using the same concept,” Ms Milner-Nichols said. “This will be a creative opportunity for all ages at Mary Ann reserve from 9 - 11am and will support the goals of the event around raising awareness on the importance of being physically active.” You can also follow progress on the 2012 Mannum Fun Run and Walk by checking out the new Facebook page and click the ‘Like’ button to keep updated. www.facebook.com/MidMurrayHealthFitnessAndYouth
