A MESSAGE FROM CHAD & SYBIL Calling All Crows’ Co-Founders

Join us in celebrating a monumental milestone this year - 16 years of impact through music and activism! This remarkable journey has been forged with the love and unwavering support of our community, and we are deeply grateful for the myriad partners and supporters that we have had over the years.

2023 marked an important year of growth for Calling All Crows. With generous support from Spotify, we expanded the Here for Music Campaign both nationally and internationally. In addition, we grew our team by three additional members, including our new: Executive Director, Heatherjean MacNeil, Here for the Music Campaign Director Maggie Arthur, and Annie Bailey, as Operations Manager. We hope that you enjoy learning more about CAC’s achievements, and the people and partners that fueled our work throughout this report!

During this year we also bid farewell to two influential staff members, our former Executive Director Kim Warnick and Lena Charity-Shapira, Senior Engagement Manager. During her long tenure with CAC, Kim's contributions were many, including serving as the key thought leader and architect of the Here for the Music campaign. Lena, who you likely know from CAC live streams and communications, has left an indelible mark on our organization. We wish both Kim and Lena our best as they embark on their new journeys.

As we look to 2024, we are excited to share with you our newest campaign - Amplifying Democracy – which aims to inspire civic engagement through music, positive messaging, and local and national service. This campaign will work to elevate the voices and perspectives of feminist and civically invested artists, meeting fans where they are to provide critical information and inspire activism. Stay tuned - we hope you will join us in our newest campaign and movement-building efforts!

Since our inception, CAC has mobilized tens of thousands of music fans to volunteer 35,000+ hours, donated over $1M, and taken 50,000+ actions in support of feminist community organizations.

I really enjoyed my evening volunteering with Calling All Crows. It was really nice to interact with fellow fans and talk about the importance of ending sexual harassment and sexual assault at concerts and festivals. As a survivor of sexual abuse, I believe that we can change music culture by having direct conversations with fans about the the mission and trainings that they can attend.

I would absolutely volunteer for Calling All Crows again, the fans and the energy were both great. I have been actively recommending volunteering for Calling All Crows to my friends and fans I meet. The great work that Calling All Crows does is held up by your financial support so please donate.

I've been working with Calling All Crows for about 4 years now, and I really appreciate being part of a movement using fan communities to make a difference, not just in the music community but elsewhere too.

IMPACT BY THE NUMBERS This was an important year of growth for Calling All Crows. We expanded the CAC team, welcoming 3 new staff members and a new board member. Through our outreach with 12 amazing artists, we were able to reach over 300,000 music fans.

With support from you and partners like Spotify, we expanded our Here For The Music campaign nationally and internationally. We trained 800+ music industry professionals and fans, including concert outreach with artists like Boygenius and Trevor Hall, and many others.

CAC AND SPOTIFY: HERE FOR THE MUSIC Sexual harassment in live music is rampant. But it doesn’t have to be.

Since we launched our #HereForTheMusic campaign in 2017, we've seen the industry begin to respond to our calls to build safe live music experiences for everyone. 2023 brought incredible opportunity for us to expand this work and deepen our partnership with Spotify.

Calling All Crows and Spotify believe in music’s power to create change, and we’re modeling the culture we want by fighting together against sexual violence at shows and festivals.

This partnership educates and supports fans to do their part to prevent sexual violence at shows they attend, empowers artists to speak out on the topic, gives everyone real tools to help prevent harm everywhere in their lives and helps fans and artists who have experienced sexual violence access resources for healing.

With the help of Spotify’s support, in 2023 we updated our online trainings, created new toolkits for artists, venues, festivals, and other industry professionals as well as offered trainings and policy consults, in the US, UK, and globally.

In 2023, Spotify launched a multiyear partnership with leading global nonprofits, including Calling All Crows’ Here for the Music program, to help end sexual violence at shows.

The initiative is rooted in the groundbreaking work done by Here for the Music to not only change the culture around sexual violence in live music, but to drive real change through trainings and policies.

By having Here for the Music as our key partner, both globally and in the US, we were able to leverage the Spotify platform to bring this meaningful work to a larger audience.

CAC AND SPOTIFY: REAL FANS KNOW In order to galvanize fans around the goal of creating better and safer live music experiences for everyone, we’ll put the thing they care most about on the line: their status as a real fan. No longer will the right merch or vinyl collection be enough to prove your fandom: now the focus is on how you treat other fans.

In August 2023, we rolled out an awareness raising campaign on Spotify socials, the app itself and in-person in New York City, Los Angeles and Toronto. Not only has this campaign been incredibly engaging for Spotify users, traffic to CAC’s socials is up 1,106% with our follows increasing by 110%! Next year will bring a new phase of the campaign focusing on providing consumers with practical bystander intervention tips and getting them even more involved in the fight for music scene safety.

CAC AND SPOTIFY: REAL FANS KNOW Working closely with our local expert partners, Spotify has created resource hubs for fans to get help, learn more, and take action.

Directives include taking our Here For The Music training, advocating to venues and artists, changing the conversation around acceptable behavior, and supporting survivors.

The training provided by Calling All Crows has given me and my tourmates a framework to discuss and deal with some of the hard-tonavigate situations we witness on the road and at shows. It's given us vocabulary and context to share our experiences and see what we can learn from them together to make our specific corner of the touring world safer and more inclusive for all.

HERE FOR THE MUSIC EDUCATION EMPOWERS In December 2022, we set out to create a better experience for anyone taking the Here For The Music bystander intervention training.

First, we revamped our online, selfpaced, training on the platform, Thinkific. Completed in the spring of 2023, this update includes audio and video recorded scenes - in partnership with nonprofit Kids in the Spotlight allowing viewers to practice bystander intervention skills from home.

Enrollment in Thinkific training is up nearly 50% from this time last year and our live training audiences have increased 66% from last year.

Second, we have greatly expanded our training capacity by onboarding eleven, new facilitators to deliver live workshops to artists and their teams, venue and festival staff, fans and more.

As someone who's been in the music industry for so long… I have become accustomed to harassment in the industry.

But through this training I realize that it's not acceptable and there are better ways to be.

Working with Calling All Crows on Warrior Womxn Wednesdays during the Heart to Heart Series during Native American Heritage Month is one of my favorite collaborations! It's been such an encouragement to be relationship with like minded visionaries who are lifting up the fight for social justice.

Our mission goes beyond the stage; it's about harnessing the energy of live music to fuel social change.

Together, we’ve witnessed our movements transform lives, break barriers, and champion feminist causes.

Our approach is more than just amplification; it's about building momentum. As a musician-founded organization, we utilize our music industry connections to create transformative experiences. Through impactful programming, we educate, provide opportunities to serve, and encourage donations to trusted community organizations.

Participants not only learn about urgent social issues but also find avenues to serve, advocate, and give back to their communities. These events create ripples of change, fostering a sense of pride and unity that sustains movements.

CAC IN 2024

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2024: AMPLIFYING DEMOCRACY

In response to a significant decline in civic engagement, Calling All Crows is thrilled to launch our newest campaign, Amplifying Democracy, in early 2024. Through this initative, CAC aspires to mobilize a new generation of music fans in civic engagement.

Data shows that 41 million members of Gen Z, young adults born after 1996, will be eligible to vote in 2024. Moreover, Gen Z is coined as the most ethnically and racially diverse generation in American history with nearly 45% identifying as youth of color and residing in regions with key swing states. A 2022 post-election report by Murmuration confirmed that Gen Z felt their voices were not heard and want to make a difference in social causes they deem important including the next election.

Through the Amplifying Democracy Campaign, CAC is well-positioned to mobilize thousands of Gen Z music fans to take action and become civically engaged in the democratic process, and through local and national service. Together, we can educate, engage, and unite more young adults to make a difference in their own community.
