BEST PRACTICE CATHETER MAINTENANCE
In line with best practice guidelines and clinical studies, Kimal promotes best practice catheter care and maintenance to help improve catheter patency. PUSH-PAUSE FLUSH
STEP 1 pause pause push push push push
Push-Pause flushing has been shown to help remove any debris from inside the catheter and improve patency.1 1.
Briskly flush the catheter as recommended in the product DFU.
2.
Pause briefly after approximately each ml of fluid.
3.
Continue to flush and pause until the last ml of fluid, after which, positive pressure disconnection is applied.
STEP 2
push push
disconnect disconnect
POSITIVE PRESSURE DISCONNECT A Positive Pressure Disconnect technique helps improve catheter patency when disconnecting the syringe from a needle-free connector. 2 1.
Flush the catheter in line with your local protocol.
2.
A Positive Pressure Disconnect technique is applied when you reach the final 1ml of flushing solution.
3.
As you start to slowly disconnect the syringe from the needle-free connector, push the remaining 1ml of flushing solution
4.
Continue to push the final flush until the syringe is completely free of the needle-free connector.
5.
The Positive Pressure Disconnect technique should help prevent the backflow of blood into the catheter lumen upon syringe disconnection.
