At PacVet 2025, you can choose between over 200 CE sessions in a variety of topics, ranging from small animal medicine to avian/ exotics. Additionally, you may participate in illuminating labs and symposia to gain crucial hands-on experience and sharpen your skills. During breaks, you have the unique opportunity to explore the two-day Vet Expo, where you can connect with hundreds of industry representatives as they demo the newest products and services on the market. PacVet also facilitates a variety of lively networking and socializing opportunities, including the Technician Fair, the UC Davis and WesternU alumni receptions, the CVMA Awards Recognition Ceremony, and the President’s Reception. PacVet 2025 will open with a thought-provoking keynote presentation by the eminent Dr. Gary Weitzman, who will be presenting on “Bridging the Gap: Expanding Access to Care and High-Volume Spay/Neuter.” The president and CEO of the San Diego Humane Society, Dr. Weitzman will explore barriers to veterinary care, the urgent need for high volume spay/neuter programs, and innovative, non-surgical sterilization solutions on the horizon that have the potential to revolutionize our approach to animal population management and welfare.

In addition to the incredible learning and networking opportunities, Long Beach is the perfect coastal setting to relax, recharge, and explore! When you’re not attending the conference, you can take a stroll along the quaint Shoreline Village, board the historic Queen Mary, lounge on the area’s many pristine and sunny beaches, savor a diversity of culinary offerings, and more.

Bridging the Gap: Expanding Access to Care and High-Volume Spay/Neuter Gary Weitzman, DVM, MPH, CAWA

Much of the country is facing a persistent pet overpopulation crisis, with shelters overwhelmed by stray and surrendered animals—and by animals, we mean dogs. While spay/neuter programs have significantly reduced euthanasia rates over the years, limited access to veterinary care and sterilization remains a major obstacle. Many pet owners—especially in underserved communities—struggle to afford or access veterinary care, leading to unplanned litters, overcrowded shelters, disrupted families, and increased euthanasia.

Expanding high-volume spay/neuter services and advancing non-surgical sterilization methods are critical to tackling this challenge. This keynote presentation will explore barriers to veterinary care, the urgent need for high volume spay/neuter programs, and innovative, non-surgical sterilization solutions on the horizon that have the potential to revolutionize our approach to animal population management and welfare. Finally, participants will be shown ways they can help solve the problem facing so many shelters and practices in their states.
