Interview with David A loving husband and a caring dad, these are only a few of the many qualities that can be said about David Ross. Living in Sweden in a small house happily married to his wife Eva, you could say David has an average life. But for him it is the perfect life. All he needs is his wife Eva and his nine year old son Magnus. However, everything changed when his wife Eva was killed in a car accident. David now feels as if his life is has been shattered into a million pieces. We now have an exclusive interview with David as he tells us how he will get through these tough times without his loving wife, and how he felt each step of the way. How was the relationship between you and your wife Eva? Well I have known Eva my entire life she was my next door neighbor, my partner in school, my best friend, my everything. Since the day I met her I knew one day she was going to be my wife. Our relationship is probably the best of all our friends. We 4

rarely fight and if we do it is what movie we are going to watch or Whos going to leave the tip. She is my soul mate I want to be with her forever. What was going through your mind when you got the call say ing your wife has passed away and you need to go to the hospital now? When I received the call I was at work, I was just handing someone a cold mug of beer when the phone rang. The phone rarely rings at work so I had no clue who it was. When I heard that Eva had been in an accident and was in critical condition I went into a state of shock. It felt like my entire world had collapsed. She was my entire life I could not imagine life without her. I felt lonely, sad, depressed and could not come to reality that this had actually happened to my poor sweet Eva. When your wife suddenly woke up from the dead were you scared or surprised, how were you feeling?

Dead Silence

I was I was sitting holding Eva’s hand all I was thinking is how am I going to tell Magnus, what will he say? Until suddenly Eva’s hand squeezed tight against mine. I didn’t understand how it was happening, she had not survived the accident and was lying peacefully in the hospital bed. As I looked down at Eva’s hand it was twitching, I slowly raised my head to see that Eva’s eyes were both open and starring down at me. I did not feel scared nor frightened but as if I was dreaming. She was awake. What were you thinking when the reporter came up to you and started asking you questions about your wife coming back to life? In all of my life I have never ever liked any report.

One more depending on a prayer And we all look away People pretending everywhere It’s just another day There’s bullets flying through the air And they still carry on We watch it happen over there And then just turn it off Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah We must stand together Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah There’s no giving in Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah Hand in hand forever Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah That’s when we all win Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah That’s, that’s, that’s when we all win That’s, that’s, that’s when we 6

all win They tell us everything’s all right And we just go along How can we fall asleep at night When something’s clearly wrong When we could feed a starving world With what we throw away But all we serve are empty words That always taste the same Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah We must stand together Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah There’s no giving in Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah Hand in hand forever Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah That’s when we all win Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah That’s, that’s, that’s when we Dead Silence

all win Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah That’s, that’s, that’s when we all win The right thing to guide us Is right here inside us No one can divide us When the light is nearly gone But just like a heartbeat The drum beat carries on And the drum beat carries on Just like a heartbeat Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah We must stand together Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah There’s no giving in Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah Hand in hand forever Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah That’s when we all win Hey, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah That’s, that’s, that’s when we all win

Shakespeare once said, “To thine own self be true.” However, if you are a not a genuine person that should you still be true to yourself? The song When We All Stand Together has many similarities to my book. The song is trying to portray the thought that we need to change the way we look at the world. By this I mean we need to stop being so naive and selfish and start caring about the people who are less fortunate. In my book Handling the undead it is trying to illustrate the image of everyone working together and not just caring about their own problems but also everyone else’s. In the song it says, “One more depending on a prayer And we all look away.” The song it trying to evoke the emotion that people in the world need our help but don’t have the amount of support that they need to fix what is wrong. This idea is similar to what is happening in the book. Everyone is trying to find answers for their own problems, but if we all tried to work together we might find a stronger answer. My book and my song both have a very strong connection with each other, they both have say that people need to work together to find a better world. Being yourself and speaking your mind is what we are taught from day one, but if deep down inside your My song When we all stand together has a very powerful message. It is trying to convey the impression that we are very selfish and people are dying because of our greed. For example in the song it says, “One more depending on a prayer and we all look away.” The artist is trying to show his opinion that even though we could help people and make their lives better we are too busy with our own lives that we don’t have enough time for other people. The song is trying to get people to change the way we are and to be more caring and less naive. It is also saying that we need to stand together and support each other. They are pretty much saying open your eyes and heart to world and work together.

The Arrival

“Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die tomorrow.” Life is too short. That is the life long lesson that you will never truly understand until someone you love is gone. Handling the undead is trying to portray the image that life is unpredictable and you will never fully understand your purpose in life but to always live to the fullest. Even though life is short and full of uncertainty we must live life with no regrets and make every moment count. Because you never know when something unexpected can happen that will change your life forever. Handling the Undead has a suspenseful, complex, thrilling plot and conveys the

underlying truth of the human condition. It always keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book. I would not recommend this book for the grade 8 curriculum but I would recommend this to any of the grade 8 students. A small quiet town in Europe becomes overwhelmed with walking zombies. Handling the Undead always keeps you guessing and wanting to know more. Everywhere you turn you see lifeless zombies but where did they all come from, why are they here? Citizens around the city scramble to find answer and solve the problem that is literally walking through their town. To complicate the situation even more each character is feeling

Dead Silence

different emotions about the arrival of the walking dead. David feels lonely, frustrated and confused when his wife passes and comes back to life. Flora feels hopeless, undecided and unloved when her husband comes back to life bringing old memories that she was trying to forget. The last point of view is Henry feeling guilty, broken and torn apart by the passing of his grandson. This quote really relates with my book, “Even though we are all different, we are all the same at heart.” When the zombies walk the city streets they bring back memories that had laid dormant for months. Even though this book has an elaborate plot line I do not think this is appropriate for the grade 8 curriculum but it is a great read and I would recommend this book to any grade 8 student.

“A graveyard could be so densely populated and yet it was the loneliest place on earth.” Your hearts racing, you can feel your pulse in your throat, you can barely breath, you get caught you snap your book closed. The thrill and anxiety can make what you read feel real. Handling the undead does exactly this. The rush of energy in an intense moment. The suspense of a murder or the jolting feeling of reading the last page, all these feelings come alive when you read handling the undead. As you flip the page it leaves you wanting more, the suspense of each word keeps you on the edge of your seat. This is a quote from my book, “A graveyard could be so densely populated and yet it was the loneliest place on earth.” This book is a whole new tack on the original idea of brain eating zombies. It’s unpredictable and always leaves you wanting more. Even though Handling the Undead is suspenseful and keeps you wanting more, I do not think that is appropriate for the grade 8 curriculum

but I would recommend this book for all grade 8 students. Books aren’t only there for our entertainment; there is a greater meaning behind each word that is written. Handling the Undead has a greater meaning behind the arriving of zombies it is about the human condition. It is trying to tell people that at any moment life can change and you can never get it back. This thought it portrayed through the death of David’s wife Eva. She passes away and what David realizes that him and Eva did not spend the time they had together to the fullest. A lot of people spend their lives walking around being lifeless like a zombie, not living life to the fullest and just letting time pass. It really makes you think if what you do everyday is living your life to the fullest and never letting time pass without being well spent. Oscar Wilde once said, “To live is the rarest thing
