ConnectED
Calgary Newsletter June 2021 | Vol. I, Issue III
LEADER’S MESSAGE: As Issue III of our ConnectED newsletter has finally arrived, much continues to evolve and change in our industry and company in a short period of time. We recently watched our AGM that noted the exciting future for us at EllisDon and the strategic plan Geoff has laid out. Calgary and Civil West also have large aspirations to contribute to the success of EllisDon as you will see in this quarter’s newsletter! The third COVID wave has been a stressful time for all Albertans and we recognize the physical and mental stress this period has had on our EllisDon family. Despite the stress, the resilience and determination we’ve witnessed across our area and corporate groups cannot be understated. Our front line staff have kept our construction sites going enabling all of us to benefit from their hard work. As noted in our area meeting, we will cautiously relax our COVID protocols to get back to the freedoms we are all desperately longing for. Obviously, the safety of our EllisDon family is paramount as we venture through this journey together. Outside of the global pandemic, the last quarter has been extremely positive for the Calgary area. Our Civil West Division is up and operational and we’ve had great successes with some new work and setting up a strategic plan that will see positive results for years to come. We have transitioned long term EllisDon employees into our Civil team to support its growth and culture and we have also brought in tremendous talent that has culminated in a dynamic Civil team capable of executing any size project. Our ICI Division has continued to grow and expand its reach. Our Formwork operations have expanded to new areas and as we see some of the trail-blazers of our Self-Performed operations retire, new up-and-comers have taken the torch to run with. Our Special Projects team has expanded its reach and profitability and continues to develop great talent. Our estimating team is firing on all cylinders with a success rate of 43% from the start of the calendar year. As we move into summer, Jeff, Colin and I would like to extend our sincere thanks for everything you have done, not just in the last few months, but the last fifteen of COVID. We hope that you have an enjoyable summer and get some much needed time off with your family and friends. Cheers, Shane Beazley
Over the past two months, a volunteer leadership committee was formed at EllisDon, known as Community CommittED. The team is led by Chris Royer, Chelsea Byrgesen, Justin Hantos and Morgan Kiefer and is in place to support EllisDon Calgary to further build, support and empower the communities we live, work and play in. Current community initiatives being organized by the team include Plaid for Dad for Prostate Cancer, Foothills Medical Centre Frontline Workers Plaza Renovation, and the development and construction of multiple skating rinks in partnership with Elladj Baldé, former Canadian professional figure skater, in some of Calgary’s underdeveloped neighbourhoods. Through initiatives likes these, our Vision is to connect EllisDon staff with the people and organizations within our communities to build strong connections and provide support to those that need it most. In July, we will be calling on all EllisDon office and site teams to develop a volunteering initiative within their community. This can occur in the community your team is currently working in, or simply with a charitable organization that’s important to you. Watch your email for more information to follow in the coming weeks. We look forward to putting this important initiative into action with you and uphold an EllisDon that not only builds our communities, but also empowers our communities! For more information, please contact community_connected@ellisdon.com. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact Jeff Fox & Colin Hill.
