Our belief is steadfast: every boy possesses the potential to embody our exceptional values and cultivate character that can profoundly and enduringly impact the world. We are determined that economic hardship must not be a barrier to entry.
At Caldicott, we are proud of our long-standing tradition of supporting boys whose families may not have the financial means to consider a Caldicott education. Over the past decade alone, we have awarded more than 100 bursaries, fostering an environment where talented pupils have the opportunity to thrive, regardless of financial circumstances. This is work that is important to Caldicott and also means a great deal to me personally. I extend my deepest gratitude to the families who have already contributed so generously to support this noble cause.
You might wonder, “Who typically receives a bursary?” While all families who apply undergo means testing, our selection process goes beyond financial need. Our transformational bursary recipients, known as Foundation Scholars, come from varied backgrounds
but share qualities of great promise, resilience, and unique experiences that enrich the Caldicott community.
For many years, we have collaborated with community leaders, mentoring organisations, and state-funded schools to identify candidates for our transformational bursaries. Our accreditation from the Royal National Children’s Springboard Foundation has further expanded our reach. This partnership enables us to identify bright young boys from 26 areas of socioeconomic deprivation and social immobility across England and Wales, offering them the opportunity to transform their lives through a Caldicott Education.
Looking ahead, our goal is to raise funds to support five Foundation Scholars each year. This vision is ambitious, but the growing demand for assistance
and the increasing number of applications motivate us to expand our efforts. On average, we must turn away ten families annually due to our limited ability to offer needs-based bursaries. While we remain committed to addressing this community need, relying solely on fee income is not sustainable.
To continue changing the lives of young boys with great potential, we need your help. Your support is crucial in enabling us to fulfil our mission and provide these transformative opportunities.
Help us make a difference in the lives of more young boys.
Warmest regards,
Jeremy Banks Headmaster
We want to equip more boys with character, courage, and compassion. Caldicott boys are fundamentally prepared to pursue a future full of possibility.
Caldicott has a rich history of supporting boys through bursary places. We take pride in continuing this important work to foster an environment where every talented boy has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Caldicott’s bursary program is crucial for nurturing lifelong learning. It offers our boys, regardless of financial constraints, a blend of traditional and modern education. Transformational Bursaries provide the essential foundation for academic and personal growth. Within the supportive Caldicott community, pupils develop confidence and self-esteem, preparing them for successful transitions into adulthood.
A lifelong learning experience
Caldicott is clear on its responsibility to develop the academic capabilities of each pupil alongside their character as a person. They are immersed in an experience that blends timeless values with contemporary sensibilities; an environment that at once roots them and extends them. It inspires their onward educational journey and lays foundations that will be with them for life.
Belonging
Pupils and their families do not just see Caldicott as a school, they know they are part of a Caldicott community. There is a strong sense of camaraderie among the boys and they also feel supported by teachers and staff, which provides them with a platform to build self-esteem and grow in confidence.
Nurturing visionary individuals
Further to their academic, creative and sporting development, Caldicott boys are grounded in values that build character. These are the qualities that will serve them well through their education and on into adult life, allowing them to establish a vision for the future, to seize opportunities that present themselves, and to rise to any challenges they are confronted with.
Prep school specialists
Caldicott is laser-focused on delivering an ideal allround learning experience that prepares boys for their continued educational development at a senior level. This is a school that understands how best to teach boys and understands the true essence of a prep education. Crucially, it understands how to deliver this in the context of the modern world, ensuring boys are guided on a pathway to becoming modern young men, both respectful and well-respected.
Compassion Determination
Strength of character and academic prowess are not pursued at the cost of emotional development. Caldicott boys are taught the importance of knowing themselves and understanding others. They are able to identify and articulate feelings. They approach situations with compassion. They have heart.
Pupils here are supported but not spoon-fed. They are empowered to become independent learners and encouraged to be self-sufficient young people. This inspires resilience and helps them grow into critical thinkers. They will become people with the strength of mind, integrity and determination to make a difference for themselves and others.
Each year, we have to turn away more than ten families who enquire about bursaries due to a lack of money available in our Bursary Fund.
Whilst we are proud to have supported so many boys in the past, there is more work to be done.
In the coming years, the Foundation is committed to doing our best to meet this need and making an even bigger impact in our community. But we cannot do this important work without your help.
Our aim is to secure funding which would enable us to award five bursary places annually. To meet this ambitious target will require approximately £250,000 in annual donations toward the Bursary Fund. This will be in addition to the bursary places and fee remissions that are currently funded out of school fees. Our long-term plan is to establish an endowment which will fund bursaries in perpetuity.
We are committed to providing a seamless entry into Caldicott for our Transformational Bursary families and therefore feel it is appropriate that these awards cover up to 100% of fees and in some instances also cover extras.
With an ever-growing demand for assistance and a burgeoning number of applications each year, we will only achieve our goals and meet this need with the help of our donors. Without this support, these life-changing bursaries would not be possible.
WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS:
Secure funding
Awarding five bursary places annually
Providing a seamless entry into Caldicott for our Tranformational Bursary families
“ They only see the glory, but they don’t know the Story. Thank you Caldicott for the opportunity you gave to my son seven years ago.”
PARENT OF A FORMER FOUNDATION SCHOLAR
During the past two years at Caldicott, our child has experienced remarkable growth, particularly in the realm of music. Under the expert guidance and unwavering support from Mr. Paget, the music director, Mr. Stratton, the violin teacher, and Mr. Murray, the piano teacher, his musical abilities have flourished impressively. These dedicated educators have nurtured his talents, allowing him to achieve levels of proficiency we had not anticipated.
The nurturing environment and personalised attention at Caldicott have been instrumental in this transformation. The school’s commitment to holistic development, coupled with its outstanding music program, has made it the perfect place for him to thrive. Although his time at Caldicott was relatively brief, the impact it has had on his musical journey is profound. We wholeheartedly recommend Caldicott to any parent seeking a nurturing and supportive environment for their child’s academic and artistic development.”
FORMER FOUNDATION SCHOLAR
GREG FISILAU OC, 2014-2016
Greg joined Caldicott in Year 6 from a comprehensive school in Oxford. Whilst not unfamiliar to the rugby pitch, in his time at Caldicott, Greg was able to hone his natural rugby talent with the support of our top-notch coaching provision, which in turn supported his overall growth. Academically, he was able to make great strides forward in his time here, helping him to secure a place at St Edward’s, Oxford. Caldicott is proud to have given Greg an invaluable stepping stone into his professional rugby career, where he currently plays for Exeter Wasps and has made his England debut in the 2022 U20 6 Nations.
While I was at Caldicott, we had a rugby team full of naturally talented players in every position, but I believe the reason we were able to be as successful as we were is because of the quality within the coaching staff. This was not just the case with rugby but something I noticed with all sports coaches and teachers. They were people who truly cared for the wellbeing of all boys and did everything they could to ensure that we pupils would
leave as more mature and knowledgeable versions of ourselves.
It was great to meet new people who shared similar interests with me, but also helped me to discover and learn new things about myself. Looking back on it, it was an incredibly fun experience that taught me so many things and I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to attend such a fine school.”

“
Transformational Bursaries can empower individual pupils by providing access to education, unlocking their potential, and opening doors to opportunities, which they previously may not have been able to access.
They offer a huge chance for the right pupils to gain enhanced co-curricular opportunities, improved academic performance and can instil a further sense of confidence and personal development. I have seen at first hand, how a Transformational Bursary can impact positively upon
a pupil, their family, and the school community. For example, one boy who benefitted from this opportunity has since been able to attend a top Senior School, play age-group rugby for England and now plays professional rugby in the Gallagher Premiership. We are very proud of him.
Beyond the recipients, these bursaries positively influence other pupils around them, fostering a culture of learning, appreciation, and aspiration. In short, they are a great vehicle for improving our school community.”
PARENTS OF FORMER FOUNDATION SCHOLAR
In the autumn of 2021, our son was accepted into Caldicott to prepare him for an arduous task of obtaining the King’s Scholarship to Eton College and considering his state school background, help his transition to Eton where he already had a conditional offer.
From the quality of education to its pastoral life, Caldicott is an immensely nurturing environment, in which its boys if they put in the effort, can thrive, excel and be confident about their standing in their Senior School and beyond.
A major part of any boarding school is its ability to strike a balance between a pupil’s academic, athletic and pastoral life, and this is something that Caldicott excels at. He has been able to throw himself into sports, something which he has not been able to do before and give it his all without infringing on his academic work or pastoral care. Similarly,
he has been able to relax sufficiently in the evenings without having to be worried over his work because of the meticulousness of his timetable arranged by his tutors.
The faculty in Caldicott have been instrumental in his ability to gain the KS. From his tutors to his teachers and coaches, he could always find someone to help him throughout his journey at this school. We would like to provide special thanks to his Sixth Form tutor, Mr Evans, who also was his English teacher.
We are grateful to Mr Banks and Ma’am Naidoo who gave our son this brilliant opportunity and everyone who helped him settle in and helped him find his way forward. The school is a wonderful community and the ones most benefited are the children and our son was no exception.
Looking back, in his own words ‘It was the happiest 2 years of my life’.”
“
As parents, we could not have been more grateful for the opportunity our son had, which was positive for the whole family. We are delighted that Caldicott is committed to supporting more boys from diverse backgrounds to benefit from the excellent education it can provide. Those thinking of sponsoring this wonderful initiative should know that the positive outcomes of their generosity will be far-reaching.”
With the help of a Caldicott education, our son has developed into a confident young man with a natural love for learning and an enthusiastic approach to life. The school helped him to develop his altruistic qualities and as a result has a strong sense of his place in the broader community and his ability to contribute positively to it.” “
Mosese joined Caldicott in Year 6 after attending a comprehensive school in Pontypool, Wales. At Caldicott, he flourished both academically and personally, developing his abilities and forming lasting friendships. Our supportive environment and dedicated teachers were crucial in helping Mosese unlock his potential. Now, he continues to shine at Radley College, where he has been awarded a prestigious Keys Award, an all-inclusive scholarship.

“
The support that we have received from Caldicott since day one has been second to none and I feel I couldn’t ask for more. Going from state school to one of the best preparatory schools in the country will never be a smooth transition because of the different standards of education. Standards that have proven to be significantly higher. Proving to be a competitive environment all around. One thing that stands out to me is the school’s emphasis on good manners and personal responsibility. Something that I am very proud to see reflected in my son’s behaviour. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the members of the staff especially in this regard.
My son has achieved so many personal goals during his time in Caldicott both academically and in sports. All of this made possible as a result of his being awarded with a Scholarship to Radley College. His first choice of Senior School, and a great
choice at that. Whilst at the school he has had the opportunity to grow in his personal life too, making several friends sure to remain in touch for a lifetime. He talks of the sense of honour and pride calling himself an “Old Caldicotian” brings.
I have no doubt that being a bursary recipient has increased his chances to be successful in life. It has provided him with opportunities that would have otherwise been unreachable, we are both extremely grateful for the for everything so far.
We are truly thankful for his place at Caldicott. The school has helped my son and my family significantly in several ways outside of just the classroom.
Thank you for investing in my son’s future and for seeing the potential in him. Caldicott has been a source of inspiration for him and clearly has the right people to foster the best future for all boys.”
SENIOR DEPUTY HEAD, ACADEMIC
THEROSHENE NAIDOO
Bursaries at Caldicott can have a profound effect on boys, their families, and the wider community through the generous support of donors.
Pupils are empowered to excel academically and enrich our school community in meaningful ways. Their quiet yet
purposeful contributions reflect the values of academic excellence and kindness that we strive to cultivate in all our boys.
I am proud to have pupils who have benefited from bursaries and am excited to see the impact Caldicott will undoubtedly continue to have on their future.”
TRANSFORMING LIVES
DEPUTY HEAD, PASTORAL
SARAH BISSCHOP
“ is simultaneously a heartwarming and a humbling experience; teaching us all to count our blessings and make the best of the privileges afforded us. These bursaries are gifts which give back in so many ways and help us all become better, more motivated, and more appreciative individuals.”
Transformational Bursaries are incredibly valuable, not only to the recipients but also to our whole Caldicott community. We are blessed as a community and can sometimes take so much for granted; watching the sheer joy, appreciation and excitement of those boys who join us from lessprivileged backgrounds
HEAD OF LEARNING SUPPORT & FORMER TUTOR OF FOUNDATION SCHOLAR
CORINNE BROWN
As a bursary recipients form tutor, I gained a great admiration for the drive and determination he showed throughout the year. He is an incredible young man who left an indelible mark on our school community. From the moment he walked into the tutor room, I saw a passion for personal growth and the desire to grasp the opportunities ahead. His teachers appreciated his curiosity and desire to deepen his understanding which extended beyond
the required expectations. His affable character was very much appreciated by his peers and the boarding house. Caldicott has a reputation for inspiring boys not only to work towards academic excellence, but to recognise that showing kindness and empathy are equally important. He actively contributed to this positive and inclusive atmosphere, always willing to lend a hand, showing compassion and resilience.”

“
My tutee, a former bursary recipient had a real impact on the school community. He embraced the academic challenges and worked diligently in every area of school life. He achieved an academic scholarship to Harrow. In addition, he was a keen sportsman and represented top teams in football, rugby, and cricket.
Furthermore, he was a popular figure with his peers and amongst staff, and this was recognised with his appointment of School Prefect. He carried out his role as School Prefect with integrity and enjoyed being a positive role to the boys in the younger year groups. Bursaries can make a real impact in a boy’s life.”
