We believe that at its core, life is about growth. As we embrace new experiences, form new relationships, take on new challenges and venture outside our comfort zone, we learn more about ourselves and each other. We grow. And we rely on each other for that evolution. No relationship, challenge, or adventure is ever fully experienced alone and so it’s up to all of us to support one another, whatever the challenge. The path may not always be straightforward, but we can take comfort in knowing that we’re all on this journey together.
In the same way that individuals grow, Kahtoola has been growing as well. For more than 20 years, we’ve learned from and progressed as the result of the experiences, challenges and relationships we’ve had the opportunity to take on. Our team of associates has grown, our products have grown and our sense of responsibility in the outdoor community and the wider world have grown. We’re grateful that our customers, athletes and associates have trusted us to help them grow and that they’ve taken the time to help us do the same.
It’s been an incredible journey, and one we’ve only just begun. We’re looking forward to what the next two decades—and beyond—will bring. Because when we grow together, the possibilities are endless.

From the very beginning, Kahtoola Founder and Owner Danny Giovale knew that if he were going to start a business its contribution to society would have to be greater than just turning a profit. That desire to give back led to the creation of our Kahtoola for the People program which, for two decades, has been dedicated to investing 1% of our revenue in programs that support indigenous mountain cultures.
It began with a focus on Nepal and Tibet but has evolved over time to include mountain cultures all over the world.

Since day one, Kahtoola for the People has been woven into our business fabric and is as important to us as the products we make. But as we grow, our sense of responsibility naturally grows with us.
Consequently, we’ve made the decision to expand our philanthropic focus beyond indigenous mountain cultures to include causes that promote environmental responsibility and outdoor community. As part of this initiative—and to better reflect this wider reach and impact—Kahtoola for the People is evolving to become the Kahtoola Philanthropy Program. And while we’re still as committed to supporting traditional cultures as we’ve always been, this change will open the door for a broader range of grassroots organizations to apply for our grants.
We know that no culture exists in a vacuum and that Kahtoola doesn’t either, so as our Philanthropy Program expands, we aim to make it indistinguishable from Kahtoola the business. This way, our support can grow with—and reflect—the interests of our entire team of associates, while accounting for the interconnectedness of the world we all live in.

CLASSIC
We believe that sometimes it takes a thoughtful look back to keep moving forward. And that’s exactly what we did when we set out to make one of our most innovative and trusted traction products even more capable and comfortable.
Using years worth of feedback from customers, associates and athletes, as well as adapting proven, cutting-edge design and technology from MICROspikes® and EXOspikes™, we’ve re-energized our NANOspikes™ footwear traction for 2023. It’s still the proven, ultra-low profile traction that runners can turn to when they need to perform on hard, slippery surfaces, but with a number of key improvements aimed at helping more people safely embrace the cold.

HIKING CRAMPONS
Three decades ago, Kahtoola Owner and Founder Danny Giovale was involved in a life-changing climbing accident. It was a moment of growth for Danny and led to the creation of our first hiking crampon: KTS. Now, thirty years later, our hiking crampons are helping others grow by empowering them to safely push their limits on a variety of nontechnical winter terrain.

SUPPORTING RETAILERS SUSTAINABLY
This season, as part of our commitment to retailers, we’re redesigning our packaging to help our products better tell their story. We’re starting with an eye-catching, cleaner, and more modern overall look, which—from the moment a customer sees it on a store shelf—reflects the cutting-edge design of our gear.
Beyond making our packaging more visually appealing and informative, we’re also making it more sustainable. Thanks to new geometry and dimensions, our updated packaging will be more efficient to ship, which means lower emissions and using fewer resources per unit. We’re also reducing our use of single-use plastics by eliminating laminates from all our paper packaging and using paper envelopes where we once used plastic.
We’re confident that with these small but targeted improvements, our new packaging will both better serve customers and have a significant positive impact on our path toward a more sustainable future.
