Alfonso Maciel, founder of Maciel Printing, has long standing ties with organized labor; in 1964 as a recent immigrant to the U.S., he and his brother successfully helped establish their workplace into a Teamster shop. Convinced a Unionized work force is good for business and the country, he invited the Union in - Maciel Printing became a Union House, proudly displaying “Bug” #401 of the Allied Printing Trades Council of Northern Calif. Teamsters District Council No. 2.

Typography
Color in typography should be used thoughtfully, serving as a hierarchy tool rather than applied without purpose. Alegreya is Maciel Printing’s primary font across platforms—it’s a versatile sans-serif with a wide range of styles. For a more personal touch, Kalam is a great option, but it should be reserved for quotations, small phrases, or excerpts. When using ampersands in titles, stick to Alegreya Sans in the same style chosen, rather than Alegreya Sans SC, for consistency and a polished look.

Body copy is generally set to be fully justified. However, quotes, small excerpts, and short phrases can be centered for emphasis or to highlight key points.

Family owned and operated since 1984 we have always strived to utilize the most environmentally friendly methods and materials. Pioneers in the use of recycled and treefree papers we print most our jobs with high-performance soy based inks. We believe in creating beautiful work—and preserving our beautiful planet. In fact, A. Maciel Printing has been an eco-friendly shop since it opened in 1984. Our entire printing process is ecofriendly. We use energy-efficient equipment, laser imagery, and chemistry-free plates (which we recycle after each use). We’ve also been a pioneer in the use of recycled and tree-free papers and use only soy-based inks.
