Local parents share their favourite tips for making life just that little bit easier.

Top Tip

Big Kid Bed

Congratulations to the Treacy and Komsic Families for each winning half day tennis programmes with Lifetime Tennis!

Present Planning At the start of each financial year (just after the tax return comes in) I sit down and plan the next 12 months of Birthday presents for our close family and friends. I then take advantage of any upcoming sales and buy a gift valued at roughly $15$20 per member, plus bulk $1 cards and wrapping and have this all stored at home for when the birthdays roll around. Saves money, time and the stress of last minute birthday buying. Jules – Freshwater

Cradle Cap I hear new mums regularly talking about cradle cap and how to get rid of it, I thought I would share my advice on this: only use natural products if possible, things like olive oil, coconut oil or other pure oils. Try to steer clear of anything artificial or with fragrances as babies skin will soak all these nasties up and sometimes these can be really harsh on their bodies. Gran – Mossman

Moving your little one to a ‘big bed’ can be an exciting time for them and you… but the thought of forking out $$ on a bed rail can be painful. Why not try a pool noodle! You simply put it on top of the mattress but underneath the fitted sheet on the open side of the bed and it’s enough of a barrier that they should not fall out. Tara - Cairns

Just In Case I had to share - I love my little kit for emergencies, it’s saved me more times than I can remember. In the boot of my car I have my ‘Just in Case’ kit, I bought a medium plastic container with a lid from Overflow and have packed it with, 2 sets of clothes per child, 4 nappies and wipes, 2 towels, sunscreen, mozzie spray, a couple bottles of water, mini first aid kit, Picnic Blanket and a tennis ball. This is great for whenever we are out and there is an unexpected change in plans, or we have wee/poo accidents, get wet at the beach or any of those kinds of moments. It just lives in my car and as I use something out of it, it gets replaced. Highly recommend every mumma has one of these! Sophie - Cairns

Real ‘Lifesaver’ Not so much a tip, but definitely a ‘lifesaver’ – make sure you tie curtain and blind cords up high when you have little ones in the house, recently a close friend found her 13-month-old with the cord from the blinds around her neck. It happened so quickly and isn’t one of the usual ‘baby proofing’ things most of us think about. Sara – Edmonton
