Bills, Bills, and More Bills! The Legislature introduced nearly 2,300 bills this session. The CLAC Legislative Task Forces have been meeting and reviewing more than 60 bills that may impact community associations in one form or another.

AB 2227 by Assembly Member Jacqui Irwin is our CLAC sponsored legislation for 2020. This bill is intended to make clarifications to the Financial Security Legislation CLAC sponsored two years ago (better known as AB 2912). We are also working to clean up SB 323. Senator Wieckowski has introduced SB 969 for this purpose, and we have a long list of ideas we are sharing with him!

We are also working with the California Association of Realtors on a measure (SB 981) allowing for more email communication between associations and their members. Short term rentals, construction defect, ADUs and residential insurance are just a few of the other topics we are reviewing in introduced legislation.

THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE (CLAC) IS A VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE OF THE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS INSTITUTE (CAI) CONSISTING OF HOMEOWNERS AND PROFESSIONALS SERVING COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS. CAI IS THE LARGEST ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION IN AMERICA DEDICATED TO MONITORING LEGISLATION, EDUCATING ELECTED STATE LAWMAKERS, AND PROTECTING THE INTERESTS OF THOSE LIVING IN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS IN CALIFORNIA. ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION  Is a non-profit, non-partisan committee composed of two Delegates and one Liaison from each of the eight CAI California chapters.  Represents over 13 million homeowners and property owners in more than 52,000 associations throughout California.  Comprises association homeowners, board members and the professional business partners that service them.  Is NOT a PAC (Political Action Committee) and makes no financial campaign contributions.  Depends solely on the donations of the community associations, their boards of directors and those who serve HOA members.
