Dear Parents, Carers, and Students,
I trust this edition of ‘What’s On’ finds all well
This past week at Cobram AGS has been another whirlwind of activity and learning! On Tuesday we welcomed future students for the start of our Foundation Transition Program. This provided these students with a glimpse into life at our beautiful, school.

Having visited the Foundation classroom to meet next year’s cohort, I must say that it was fantastic to meet such an enthusiastic and curious group of young learners. It was also a pleasure meeting some of our new families at the Transition morning tea. We very much look forward to welcoming our new families into the Cobram AGS community next year.
Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 students embarked on a very busy camp to Canberra, exploring the nation's capital and its history. Our Year 10 students have been busy studying for and completing their exams, while in the Junior School, the swimming program made a splash, with students building water confidence and skills. It’s been a dynamic week full of growth, exploration, and achievement!
Take care and we look forward to next week.

Year 5-6 Camp Brings History and Politics to Life
On Thursday evening, our Year 5/6 students returned from an action-packed four day school camp in Canberra, where each day was filled with incredible experiences! The camp included a mix of iconic landmarks and hands-on activities. At the National Capital Exhibition, students delved into the story of Canberra’s development, then explored the fascinating Royal Australian Mint, learning how coins are made A visit to the incredible Australian War Memorial provided deep insights into Australia’s history and sacrifices, creating memorable moments of reflection. Students also enjoyed an evening of laser tag and later explored Questacon, Australia’s National Science and Technology Centre, which came alive with interactive exhibits that intrigued everyone.
Before heading to Canberra, the students dove into studies on history, politics, and government, exploring Australia’s laws, electoral system, and Federation This groundwork set them up for an even richer experience on camp, Thanks to all the staff who attended this camp: Mr McConnell, Mrs Williams, Mrs Doyle, Mrs Rouse, Miss Reilly and Mrs Clark. And of course, thank you to the students for their enthusiasm, energy and curiosity, making it a memorable four days of learning and exploration!
Students from our school have recently undertaken and education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $30 per students under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Our school is proudly part of the Anglican Schools Commission (ASC), which will soon be known as AngliSchools
With 16 schools in Australia, over 2,400 dedicated staff, and more than 16,600 students, the ASC has been a cornerstone of quality, inclusive Anglican education for 40 years.
Starting 6 January 2025, the new name represents a commitment to that legacy and prepares the ASC for future growth.

This past week, our Foundation to Year 2 students made waves at the Barooga ARC, participating in an exciting week-long swimming program Thanks to generous funding from Sporting Schools, our youngest students spent hours in the water, building essential swimming skills and improving their confidence.
The program focused on maximising active participation, encouraging our students to practise and engage continuously throughout each lesson.
Under guidance from their instructors, our young swimmers gained valuable knowledge and skills in personal survival and water safety, as well as strengthening foundational swimming techniques.

A huge thank you to our Head of Sport, Mr Jon O’Dwyer, who tirelessly coordinated the program, spending every day in the pool with our students. We’re also grateful to the staff members who eagerly jumped into the water to support and encourage our students
A special mention goes to our Year 10 Sports Academy students who took on coaching and instructional roles as part of their studies. The progress our young swimmers made was a testament to their clear and effective instruction.

We Will Remember Them
On Monday our school community came together to acknowledge Remembrance Day and honour the war veterans and active servicemen and women who have bravely fought for our country We would like to extend our gratitude to the many students and families who purchased a poppy badge to support the RSL. Thank you to Senior School students Teagan, Sarah, and Tahlia who delivered readings at our brief school service.
Our 2025 School Captains Regan, Mackenzie, Abigail, and Alina did a magnificent job representing our school at the Remembrance Day service at the Cobram War Memorial. Alina read the poem Flanders Fields with great poise, while Abigail laid a wreath on the Cenotaph on behalf of our school to honour those who gave the ultimate sacrifice
