HUGH SEABORN CHIEF EXECUTIVE, CAD O GAN

During this period, we plan to extend the Chelsea e-cargo bike service offering free, eco-friendly delivery for all residents from the neighbourhood’s many other food and drink stores. Please see page 2 for details on how to book this service and a list of stores who are participating.

I am sure that, like me, you are excited to see Chelsea carefully reopening its doors again this week.

We realise that older or more vulnerable residents may be significantly affected by this closure. Further information to ensure that they receive the support necessary is also included.

We thought it might be useful to share with you some of the festive entertainment planned for the next few weeks, from Christmas markets to horse and carriage rides and local carol services.

It is not ideal, although with the high street facing many challenges, we welcome this investment by Waitrose in the long term as an opportunity to deliver a better King’s Road for everyone.

On a less positive note, you may know that Waitrose has taken the decision to temporarily close their King’s Road shop from 31st December at 5pm, reopening on 25th February 2021.

May I take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful Christmas and let's look forward to a better 2021.

Welcome

I realise what a huge inconvenience this is to you and am likely as disappointed as you are.

Hugh

CHRISTMAS IS NOT CANCELLED! Al fresco festive dining Under current government guidelines, households remain unable to mix indoors – which is when Chelsea’s beautiful outdoor spaces become increasingly important. The ‘rule of 6’ still applies outdoors, so we have ‘winterised’ Duke of York Square and Pavilion Road (which, thanks to RBKC, remains pedestrianised) to ensure that friends and family are still able to meet and enjoy a meal together. From today, over 500 new outdoor seats have been introduced, with cover from the elements and warming heaters (as eco-friendly as possible, powered by electricity rather than gas). Please just call your favourite participating local to book your outdoor table, from now until Christmas Eve. For participating restaurants, festive menus and specials, please see website details on the next page. Festive entertainment and complimentary horse and carriage rides Each weekend until Christmas will see atmospheric roaming entertainment and complimentary horse and carriage rides across the neighbourhood. The horse and carriage rides are a wonderful new way to enjoy the area, no matter how well you might know it. They depart from outside Tiffany & Co on Sloane Square,

each Saturday and Sunday between 12 to 4pm, lasting around 20 minutes and can carry 6 people from the same household or two from different households. The rides are free, but usually only available on the day, and queues can get busy at peak times. We have reserved rides for the first 10 readers who e-mail marketing@cadogan.co.uk, letting us know their ideal date and time. Festive food market The Duke of York Square Fine Food market will continue on the running track (opposite Saatchi) each Saturday, with festive twists throughout December. Pick up stocking fillers and artisanal seasonal treats each week from 10am-4pm. For everyone’s safety, a oneway system is in place and face coverings are requested please, for the continued protection of yourself and others around you.

Christmas Shopping Many local shops are running special offers and events to tempt you over the coming weeks. Did you know that several new stores have opened just pre-lockdown or this week? Experiential stores Shackleton and anatomē open this week, along with Hayley Menzies and Bens Grocers who opened in November. For full details on the above and more, a dedicated microsite will be launching this week: www.chelseachristmas.com

LO CAL AMENITIES

LO CAL CAROL SERVICES Holy Trinity Church will not be having their annual Christmas Fair this year, but will be selling Cards for Good Causes. The shop will be open Mondays to Saturdays, from 10am-5pm. The church has also already had generous donations for their Christmas raffle, so do remember to buy your tickets to win some lovely prizes and support Holy Trinity School. The parish carol service will take place on 13th December. Chelsea Methodist Church will be holding festive services via Zoom this year, with dates to be confirmed online at chelseafulhammethodist.org.uk. Donations are welcomed for the church’s free Festive Lunch and Gifting, which will be held on a drop-in basis at 155a Kings Road, at 1pm on 14th, 15th and 17th December. The lunches help homeless people in need over the Christmas season, with nonperishable food, clothes and toiletries made into gift boxes and hampers. St Luke’s & Christ Church are pleased to be able to hold several unticketed services this year. These start with carols on Chelsea Green on 15th December at 6.30pm. On Christmas Eve, they will hold a Crib Service in both churches at 4pm, and at St Luke’s there will also be Parish Midnight Eucharist starting at 11.30pm. On Christmas Day St Luke’s will hold Holy Communion at 8am, and Christmas

Eucharist at 10.30am. Meanwhile at Christ Church, Christmas Eucharist will be held at 11am. Luke Martineau has organised this year’s Carols by Candlelight with Dame Judi Dench, Jenny Agutter, Damian Lewis, Jane Asher and David Haig. A virtual pre-recorded carol service will be streamed online via YouTube on Thursday 17th December at 7pm. The service was filmed at St Luke’s Church in Chelsea and at Abbey Road Studios with the Winchester College Chapel Choir and celebrity readers. Luke was not going to allow Covid-19 to get in the way of the 18th consecutive Carols by Candlelight, and the chance to raise vital funds for the Alice Martineau Appeal for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, in memory of his sister Alice. Tickets are £10. For information on any ticketed services which may arise please visit chelseaparish. org or call the church on 020 7351 7365. Due to restrictions, St Columba's Church of Scotland on Pont Street is not holding any special festive services this year. However the church’s weekly attended service, on Sundays at 11am, can also be live streamed online at stcolumbas.org. uk/live-stream Because of the uncertain times, Chelsea Old Church asks that people look to chelseaoldchurch.org.uk for the details of Christmas services.

WA I T RO S E STORE

The Waitrose store on King's Road store will close temporarily for eight weeks, from 31st December, reopening on 25th February as they invest and upgrade the store. When the store reopens on 25th February, it will be a smaller format initially, before returning to its original size in the summer of 2022, with an exciting new look and feel. Waitrose Belgravia are offering telephone ordering for older people who do not have access to the internet. They will deliver across Kensington and Chelsea. The number is 020 7235 4958, press 8 or hold and ask for Emma, Yusuf or Ross. Alternatively, Age UK are able to support people who require help with shopping.
