- about me My name is Sytze, a really difficult name to pronounce with an English accent. For that reason my foreign friends call me Ceasar, like the kaiser of the Roman empire (not that I’m comparing myself to him).

For as long as I can remember I’ve got the urge to create.

Early on in my life I filled this urge with drawing and playing with Lego. All these years later, I haven’t lost this impulse. As a designer, I get a lot of creativity out of this urge. At this moment I’m almost halfway the second year of the study Product Design. So far, I’ve learned a few basic, but very important, designer skills. For example, I’m able to find inaccuracies in existing designs, on technical- and aesthetic areas. Also on a personal level I discovered (during the study period) some things about myself. For example: In a design process I’m quite precise and I’ve trained an eye for detail. Despite my accuracy, I won’t be lead by conventional ideas.

In your company I could generate creative concepts and solutions, but also make these concepts tangible and technically feasible.

HAIR DRYER PRODUCT EVOLUTION | PRODUCT DESIGN HVA

The hairdryer is a presentation model designed in the occasion of a study project Product Evolution. The goal of the project was to make a redesign of an ‘old’ product (at least 30 years old) to a product that’s usable and satisfies the trends of the future (2016). The hair dryer was originally designed by Braun in 1977.

In the project I learned to research the background, mission and vision of a brand, trend watching and how to make these trends feasible.

In a user observation, ergonomic improvement was established. The ergonomics of this design is formed around the idea that the curved shapes are organic and feel as a natural object in hand contact.

DAY PLANNER TIME MEASURER | PRODUCT DESIGN HVA

The day planner is a design for the group of mentally disabled people. This design had to be a natural part of the world of living of these human beings. The playful and creative part of the nature of mentally disabled is colorful and simple. So the design had to be designed by these rules.

For this target-group actual time is less important, so the day planner focuses only on daily activities. The nodes in the band stand for the daily activities. These activities are placed in a certain color spectrum. Due to the ‘blob form’ (changing color by led), a certain activity is defined.

The goal of the project was developing a time measuring tool, packed in a designed shape for the described group of consumers.

MUSEUM TEA SET PRODUCTS SERIES | PRODUCT DESIGN HVA

‘The Museum Tea set’ was designed for a Nautic Project in the context of the Dutch history of sea traders. Visits were made to the museum of ‘Dutch Nautic history’ (Het Scheepvaart Museum). Ideas were made out of the inspiration and based on these visits.

The basic form is inspired by the tall clipper ‘Stad Amsterdam’ which is moored behind the museum. Organic shapes of rope and wood as equal as color and texture were used to complete the design. The whole process was very crafty and time consuming. But the results were surprising and fascinating.

UPSIDE DOWN LAMP PROJECT STUDY | PRODUCT DESIGN HVA

Surging for a spark of light in the dark, the project ‚Upside down’ was my first ‘autonomous’ design project. The design was made for two purposes and in three different ways to use. First a lamp that can be used as a desk light in a study room and secondly an active lamp for lighting an entire room.

In this design simple materials as wood and a simple lamp armature were used. The curves are made in a vertical way, giving a beautiful effect on the wall and ceiling.
