Welcome to the Chinese American Community Center’s 30th annual Chinese Festival! Each year we are awed by the many familiar faces that we see and the many new friends that we make. Thank you for joining our celebration of culture and community!

The Festival is dedicated to sharing the rich diversity of Chinese and ChineseAmerican culture. While each Festival has been unique blend of new activities and fan favorites, the Festival’s senses of family and community has always been constant. The number of multi-generational families who volunteer at, and visit the Festival, is a testament to the importance of family, cultural, and community bonds. The 2024 Festival proudly illustrates these bonds. The exhibits showcase the connections that we express and share through language and material culture. The food court brims with the joy of sharing a meal with friends and family. The festival’s performers, who range from preschoolers to senior citizens, and hands-on activities remind us that we are never too old to learn and try something new.

On behalf of the CACC and the Chinese Festival, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the 2024 Festival’s sponsors and contributors for their generosity and their support I express my deepest appreciation and thanks to the many devoted volunteers who willingly donated their time to plan, organize, and operate the 2024 Chinese Festival. 2024 Special Exhibition

Chinese porcelain is world-renown for its exquisite beauty and craftsmanship The molding and high-firing processes that give porcelain wares their graceful translucence, strength, hardness, and color were invented in China over 1400 years ago.

Chinese Porcelain 瓷 器

Many of the historically notorious porcelain styles, decorative motifs, and forms originated in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province. The kilns of Jingdezhen continue to produce Chinese porcelain to this day. Visit this exhibit to learn about Chinese porcelain production technologies, types of Chinese porcelain, and why porcelain is a distinctive reflection of Chinese culture.

早在一千多年前中國先民就掌握了成熟的製瓷技術，那是智慧與泥 土、水和火美輪美奐的交融。自此以後，中國為世界呈現出了各式 精美絕倫的瓷器，它以獨特的美感和精湛的工藝聞名於世。許多歷 史上眾人皆知的瓷器風格、裝飾圖案和形式都源自於瓷都 江西景 德鎮。

時至今日，景德鎮依然爐火興旺，一代代製瓷人薪盡火傳，源源不 斷地為世界呈現各種各式優雅的瓷器。邀請您跟隨我們的展覽，了 解中國瓷器的名稱、種類、製作過程以及瓷器獨特的中華文化內涵。

Not Your Average Sweet and Sour Pork

Like American Barbeque, there is regional variation amongst Sweet and Sour dishes. The dishes coated with the sweet, orange sticky sauce that we often order from our favorite restaurant originates from the Guangzhou province of China. Sweet and sour dishes in northeastern Chinese cuisine tend to be double fried, which makes then drier and crispier.

The 2024 feature dish is 糖醋排骨 (Tang Cu Pai Gu), Shanghai-Style Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs. In the Shanghainese version of sweet and sour, the ribs are floured, fried, and then stir fried in a rich dark sugary glaze The tangy aroma of aged vinegar provides the sour element of the dish.

Zhenjiang vinegar is a crucial ingredient in this decadent dish. This deliciously smooth, full-bodied, and silky dark vinegar is sour but not astringent, fragrant, and slightly sweet. Like balsamic vinegar, Zhenjiang vinegar is also a fermented vinegar Although every family has their own “golden” sweet/sour ratio for Tang Cu Pai Gu, this dish is always a crowd pleaser.

Chinese legend has it that people in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, have been cooking this style of sweet and sour ribs since the Song dynasty, for at least 700 years

和美式燒烤一樣，中式餐點中酸甜口味的菜 餚，也因區域不同，而有不同的版本。雖然 東北鍋包肉、還有無錫糖醋排骨，在英文中 都說是 Sweet & Sour，但實際上卻大相逕 庭。平常我們從餐廳裡點選的、有一層橘色 甜味醬汁的咕咾肉，其實來自中國南方的廣東省。而北方的酸甜口味菜 餚，由於經過雙重油炸、因此，在口味上，通常比南方版本的相同菜餚 較乾、也更脆。

中國節2024

的特色菜是無錫糖醋排骨。把排骨洗淨後上粉炸熟， 再用黃金比例的糖醋汁翻炒勻，撒上白芝麻上桌。鎮江陳醋的香氣 為菜餚帶來酸味元素。

鎮江香醋是這道美味菜餚中的靈魂成分。「香」字道明鎮江醋比起 其他種類的醋來說，重點在有一種獨特的香氣。酸而不澀、順滑、 醇厚、質地柔滑略帶甜味。與意大利黑醋類似，鎮江香醋也是一種 發酵醋。雖然每個家庭對於糖醋排骨的甜酸「黃金」比例都有自己 偏好，但這道菜總是深受大眾喜愛。

相傳，在江蘇無錫一帶自宋朝（700年前）就開始烹製這道糖醋排 骨了。

About the

Chinese Festival Logo

You may notice the big 結 (pronounced “jie”) on the back of our festival volunteer T-shirts. The actual translation of 結 is “knot” but this character has other meanings, such as union and togetherness. 結 is also pronounced very much like the Chinese character for “festival”, which is 節. (Look for 節 on the front of the festival t-shirts!) The CACC has selected 結 as our festival logo because it symbolizes exactly what we want to host - a festival that brings people together and celebrates community ties.
