Sr. Staff Associate for Professional Development and Communications, CABE

At the September State Board of Education meeting, Donald Harris (Bloomfield) and Allan Taylor were sworn in for the next term, along with new student members Natalie Bandura and Rishabh Bhandari. A presentation on college enrollment, credit attainment and remediation of high school graduates was delivered showing trends from 2010 to 2016. Questions on how many students chose Connecticut higher education institutions, enrolled in remedial courses and the timeline in which they attained credit were reviewed. The partnership of the State Department of Education, the Department of Labor, Board of Regents of Higher Education, and University of Connecticut make up the Preschool through 20 and Workforce Information Network (P20WIN). Use of this data provides insights for each agency and highlights their interdependence. There was a slight increase in the number of students enrolling in Connecticut public institutions within 16 months of graduation - up from 39.3 percent in 2010 to 42.0 percent in 2016. Again, there was a slight increase in the number who earn 24 credits
