2015 CABE/CAPSS Convention Announces Friday morning speaker

The CABE/CAPSS Convention Committee is pleased to announce that Dr. Yong Zhao, a leading expert in education, will be the Convention Friday morning speaker. Yong Zhao currently serves as the Presidential Chair and Director of the Institute for Global and Online Education in the College of Education, University of Oregon, where he is also a Professor in the Department of Educational Measurement, Policy, and Leadership. He is also a professorial fellow at the
Mitchell Institute for Health and Education Policy, Victoria University. His works focus on the implications of globalization and technology on education. He has published over 100 articles and 20 books, including Whoâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Afraid of the Big Bad Dragon: Why China has the Best (and Worst) Education System in the World, Catching Up or Leading the Way: American Education in the Age of Globalization and World Class Learners: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students. He is a recipient of the Early Career Award from the American Educational Research Association and was named one
of Boards of Education Inc.

Program Category: STEM Education Grade Levels: Middle School Program Description: The STEM competition is a culminating project-based learning experience by grade level, where teams of students are given a problem to solve, i.e., for 6th grade â&#x20AC;&#x153;Quake and Shakeâ&#x20AC;? â&#x20AC;&#x201C; students have to build a structure for stability and least mass to withstand an earthquake. 7th grade â&#x20AC;&#x201C; students have to build a boat for buoyancy, speed and distance. 8th grade â&#x20AC;&#x201C; students have to design a car that is built to travel distance.
