President’s End of Year Message

Dear Columbia Alumni in Brazil,

As 2024 comes to a close, we are happy to see the fruitful year we built as a group for our Columbia Alumni Association Brazil. Based on the collective efforts of our Board of Directors and membership, we held several opportunities for networking throughout the year, while discussing relevant topics and issues for our society

These events included the debates with candidates for the mayor of São Paulo, with the reelected mayor, Ricardo Nunes, and other candidates Tabata Amaral and Marina Helena; the event with the US Counsel-General for São Paulo, Richard Glenn, in November, celebrating the 200 years of US-Brazil diplomatic relations; and the informal sessions on LLM and Executive programs in São Paulo and in Brasília (led by our Brasília chapter). We also highlight the Columbia Ventures’ high pace of meetings and events, such as the well-known pitch nights presenting different investment opportunities for our base

As for social social events, music has been a highlight in view of the partnership established with OSESP, the São Paulo’s Symphonic Orchestra, which was so kind to received us for a preconcert cocktail in October at Sala São Paulo. We also launched the first ever Ivy League mixer in Rio de Janeiro in April, with over 90 participants (led by our Rio de Janeiro chapter), which was replicated in November in São Paulo, with more than 130 participants from Columbia, Harvard, Stanford, UPenn, Princeton and Yale The Alumni Clubs of these schools agreed to repeat the event, so keep tuned!

Our club, led by our Porto Alegre chapter, rose tons of food and supplies to the displaced at the catastrophic floods in May at Rio Grande do Sul. We also enhanced the visibility and support provided to Teto, an alumni led social interest housing institution that we are proud to assist.

In 2024, we remained supportive to Columbia University’s admission processes by interviewing applicants for graduate programs whenever required and by offering alumni testimonials at Columbia College and Engineering local sessions for admitted undergraduates

We thank the Columbia Global Center, in Rio, for the support in different activities through the year. Our appreciation for the partnership, and look forward to continuing it. We also appreciate the support we received from Columbia University’s Alumni Office, who has motivated us and helped us go through during more difficult times within our Whatsapp community

Finally, we are very proud to having received from Columbia University’s Alumni Office the “Best Columbia University Alumni Club of the Year (2023)” award! This is the result of many years of dedication from many of our members Please check in this Annual Report the members of our Board of Directors, and of our Advisory Board, who had direct participation in the building up of our community.
