APRIL 2024 #RELENTLESS
REAL ESTATE AGENT

FOCUS

Heather Gorney

What made you choose a career in real estate?

I just graduated college with my bachelor degree, had been working in my current position for a few months and Covid hit. As a single parent, I had to be creative like so many others in our community, in how I was going to pay the bills! Companies were outsourcing HR, so I went back to my roots! I grew up in the construction industry so it was an easy transition.

REAL ESTATE AGENT

What’s been you main way to expand your client base?

It’s important to network. Having strong relationships with lenders, local builders, and even other agents is important! Of course staying up to date with the market Online as well, there’s an abundance of resources.

Do you have any role models that have inspired you?

I’ve come across some really great role models in this industry! I have a belief that every individual has their own definition of success so I don’t want to place judgment on any one else’s journey. My journey however, success means achieving goals. One of my main goals is to make my clients experience a pleasant milestone memory when working with me.

How do you stand out from other Realtors?

I’ve been told that I don’t BS. I am very good about educating my clients about the good and the bad! I also answer my phone! I show up when I am needed and really do connect with each of my clients to understand their needs and wants to achieve their goals

What strategies do you use or plan to use to keep updated on the market trends and changes?

It’s important to network. Having strong relationships with lenders, local builders, and even other agents is important! Of course staying up to date with the market Online as well, there’s an abundance of resources.

Is there anyone that you regard highly or see as a mentor?

Yes! Kimberly Slucher! She led the Ascend program when I came over, and she’s been at my beck and call every time I’ve needed to ask a question or gain some different insight, she is fabulous! To be honest, there’s an abundance of people here at C21 that I would place in high regard!

Do you have any goals for the next 5 years?

I just graduated college with my bachelor degree, had been working in my current position for a few months and Covid hit. As a single parent, I had to be creative like so many others in our community, in how I was going to pay the bills! Companies were outsourcing HR, so I went back to my roots! I grew up in the construction industry so it was an easy transition.

Do you plan on specializing in a particular market or type of real estate?

As part of a vision of mine for a team, I would like to have a niche. I really enjoy new construction and custom builds. I also have a passion for helping seniors through the downsizing process. Currently, my niche I would say is first time buyers. I have an abundance of successful experiences.

Can you share a memorable story you have from real estate?

I have several! I think the most recent was my clients that were first time home buyers who had been looking for almost 2 years! They were priced out of the market when interest rates jumped. They then had their 3rd child. They were very smart and careful about their budget so it was a challenge finding what they needed! When we did they were so excited and I felt so proud of them!

Is there any advice you would give to someone interested in making real estate as a career?

Plan ahead! Real estate is not as easy as people not in the business think! There are a lot of moving parts. There are skills needed that are not taught in real estate school! You also need to be really good at time-management and holding yourself accountable. Also, learn to be patient as well as creative!

How do you prioritize a work-life balance in a demanding profession?

Schedule a specific day off and communicate expectations in the beginning with your clients
