Why did they purchase “RUSTIC EDGE”
A well-known, well loved man, who passed away at the North Kapunda Hotel,suddenlyplayingpoolonthe17th March 1904, with his son Harold by his side.
Henry Binney Hawke was Born in October 1827- 1828 depending on the source, of where I’ve read Quite an interesting life, with sadness, dedicationtoworkandhisfamily
Born in Cornwell, orphaned at 5 years of age and reputedly raised by a family of smugglers, but born to 3 generations of blacksmiths he migrated to SA, in January 1849 at 21 years of age Henry took a job at foundry in North Terrace, Adelaide, he must have been successful, as he purchased land and in 1852- 53, built twocottagesofoneroomeach, corner of Tynte Street and Cambridge Street, NorthAdelaide
By 1856, just three years later, he ownedonelargeresidence,4dwellings and a single one-room cottage. He was then married to Christina Rayner in 1856, who was 18 years of age They had 5 children, 3 sons passed away And Christina passed away at 31 years of age, of Hydatids of the liver There weretwodaughtersremaining
Henry owned a property also in Port Lincoln, but it believed that he continued to own and reside with his family until his death in 1904, in Kapunda. At 57 he stopped working; it is not known as to whether that was due to his hearing problems But, prior to: - Interestingly he went onto own HB HawkesPatentSeedSower
Kapunda Herald about six months before the launch of his patent Seed Sower, had an advertisement that read:
"SPECIALNOTICE

HB Hawke & Co, as Shane decided to retireandMichelledecidedtogivehim something to do? But, from speaking with Michelle, she’s savvy and has some excellent ideas she’s working on as well, whilst Shane entertains everyone, I guess that’s why they get a lot of repeat business, oh and by the way, I tried the coffee, being a Kapunda girl myself, and it’s just gorgeous!
Florists, awesome Coffee that you cannot get anywhere else, as the beans have been selected by them personally, but you can take a packet home, café’ style food, yiros, salad bowls, roast pork Vietnamese rolls, on special days of the week, using Mount Pleasant Butcher, and local produce, with amazing company, with laughter and regulars on-going, Michelle and Shane, youwon'tbedisappointed!
