Carol Hutchinson A Graphic of a Bugeoning Brand and Culinary Nutrition Career

Carol Hutchinson Brand & Product Development Ontario Natural Food Co-Op is a highly regarded, well-trusted and long established distributor. I was contracted to develop their first private label brand Ontario Natural ‘from seed to plate’. In just 23 months, in partnership with growers, chefs, producers, sales teams, ad agency, purchasers and all internal linked members, I was able to bring to market 45+ grocery items in 14 lines. This involved me in all aspects of the brand and full responsibility, creative direction, transparency of budgets, forecasting, organic certification, recipe and product development, registration, label compliance, sales tools, trade shows, design. Beyond all-the foods needed to be sales worthy, tasty, sustainably produced, organically certified, nutritionally dense and often unique; understanding the brand story at each turn. Perhaps the most successful new skus are the Organic Kim Chi and the Wild caught Manitoulin Island Lake Trout, Smoked Trout, Whitefish and steaksalso certified by Ocean Wise I am very proud to have been so invested in this massive local food initiative. TM.

In a period of 18 years, I have mentored 85+ food and beverage brands. Many of them are innovative, sustainable, health-full & Canadian-owned.

NOVEMBER 6, 2013

National Post: Cook-Stylist-Photographer September 2012, I was given a presentation at my culinary school, the renowned George Brown College-the starting point for many of Canada’s accomplished chefs and cooks. Culinary Arts students were encouraged to submit photos for weekly food missions with an opportunity of being published in the Saturday National Post. Each of these photos has been published in print.

By Jan 2015, with a relatively high number of print successes (now at 25+), I was invited to be one of National Post’s Mission Inspiring Food Photographers. Each week, I am sent the mission project in advance. My photos are often chosen to invite others, across Canada, to participate. On line portfolio: www.wellnessstudio.ca

Copy Writing…

…or , as I like to call it, “story-telling in a short space”. I’ve written miles and miles of it-food and beverage copy/recipes for 75+ brands. Since taking Don Genova’s course in Food and Travel writing at UBC, copy writing has become one of my most passionate pursuits. I wrote all copy for the Ontario Natural iPhone app last year. I often need an editor since I’m a weak keyboarder. .

Certified and Registered RNCP

Culinary Arts & Media

By Fall 2009, I earned my designation as a Registered Nutritionist; a process of learning I began in Vancouver. Since then I am told, “I walk the talk”- high praise! I have worked with a good number of clients encouraging them to become “unstuck” and meet their health and wellness goals. By keeping my knowledge fresh, I become more valuable to building healthful brands.

June 2013, I completed a certificate in Culinary Arts/Food and Media. The courses have been absorbed and practiced by me with a feverish intensity and are nothing short of a dream come true; working with outstanding chefs and learning many food styling, story telling and culinary techniques.
