What is amblyopia? Amblyopia, commonly known as ‘Lazy Eye,’ is a serious condition that refers to reduced vision in one eye. Simply put, it is when one eye doesn’t coordinate with the other the way it should. Amblyopia is mainly caused due to the following reasons: 1. Significant refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism. 2. Strabismus or crossed eyes. 3. Structural abnormalities, such as opacity on the cornea or crystalline lens. The symptoms of amblyopia are generally one wandering eye. But the symptoms may not always be obvious. Therefore, early detection of amblyopia is crucial for its successful treatment.
