“This series was titled ‘Backyard Shenanigans’ because that’s exactly what this shoot presented. It all started with me looking across to the corner of our backyard, and there it was… a garden umbrella!!! I then called to my brother to model for me, and the rest was history… For the hour it took to shoot this, it almost felt like we were kids again- playing in the backyard, and making up games using nothing but our imagination”

"As a creative, I’ve always wanted to produce a concept that would put a smile on my mother’s face. Growing up, she’s played such a vital role in my life, and inherently, she has also played a significant role in the way that I see the world. However, being a child of the diaspora, I feel like I am always in contention with the culture I grew up in, and the culture I was born into. So, my reality is that the majority of my art is a constant reminder of how my perception of beauty compared to my mother’s is like night and day. So for this concept, I wanted to bridge the love she has for the traditional garments of her culturethe culture she left behind after seeking asylum in the West- with the way that I perceive beauty through my lens. The more I think about it, this is all in the hopes of finally seeing the joy in her eyes when she glances upon my art once again…"
