New large logistics assigment Our client SBM Offshore was recently awarded two FPSO (floating production, storage & off-loading) lease contracts by its client Petrobras. Jointly, the two FPSOs represent the biggest contract ever awarded to SBM Offshore and the contract value is approximately USD 3.50 billion. SBM will convert two VLCCs (very large crude carriers) into FPSOs. We are very proud to announce that SBM Offshore has chosen Blue Water as the logistical provider for these two large projects and important projects.

The project will involve our offices in Shanghai, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro, Esbjerg, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and not least our newly opened office in Marseilles. The scope will include transport by road, air and sea to the Far East and Brazil. “One of the challenges is to foresee and be ready for the various peak seasons that will come during the lifetime of the project. It requires a very flexible workforce and a great amount of flexibility within the company. Luckily this is one of

the strengths within Blue Water, and we feel well equipped to handle this large project while still being humble in regards to the number of shipments, volume and the expectations from the ­ client,” says Thomas Bek, Global Manager Oil & Gas, Blue Water. “It is always fantastic to secure a project from a client, but when it is a repeat project it is even better, as it indicates that you have performed well on the previous projects – and that we are doing something right,” states Thomas Bek.

On time delivery Blue Water is happy to have completed the first project for our good client SBM Offshore. The logistics services in relation to FPSO Cidade de Paraty. SBM Offshore have announced that Cidade de Paraty is formally on hire since June 2013, following full systems acceptance by its client and continues to ramp up oil production. The facility has been constructed in 34 months from letter of intent in June 2010, in line with expectations and meets the local content requirements for Brazil2

ian FPSOs. The FPSO will operate under twenty year charter and operational contract on the Lula Nordeste development in the pre-salt area, offshore Brazil. It has been a challenging and very interesting project for many of our Blue Water offices. The logistic scope included transport of more than 8000 shipments, chartering of vessels, air planes as well as inhouse staff placed at a shipyard in Brazil. Finally a successful integration between the NADIA system of SBM Offshore and

the Blue Water Compass IT-system which among other was a part of ensuring the success of this project. “Credit goes out to the many people involved, but especially to the Blue Water office in Rio de Janeiro. Not only did they have to handle this large project as a newly opened office but they also manage to expand their business”, says Dan Nissen, Managing Director, Blue Water Oil & Gas Division.

Complete logistics solutions In general, it is imperative for Blue Water to deliver the clients cargo safely and on time. But throughout the years, Blue Water has developed the transport with several services as it is no longer just a matter of having goods transported from A to B for the clients. By cooperating with Blue Water, a lot of clients have experienced efficiency improvements in their logistics via tailor-made solutions. “At Blue Water, we have worked with optimisation of our clients’ logistics chain for many years. A close dialogue with our client enables us to find and suggest solutions which will save our clients both time and money. Our starting point is to offer quality and flexibility in transports so the clients’ spend as little time on that as possible. Instead, they can concentrate on development and production of their products”, says Carsten Eskildsen, General Manager for the General Cargo division in Blue Water. Blue Water develops the solutions in close dialogue with each single client to ensure that they achieve full profit. The interaction resembles a strategic cooperation with a mutual challenge of creating the best possible set-up for transport, warehousing and logistics. A special solution like this is consolidation and packing of custom-made orders in the country of departure e.g. in the Far

East. This can be done with Blue Water’s Pick & Pack concept in which each order is packed and prepared in e.g. Shanghai, ready for distribution to ships or endusers after arrival. This means that the goods arrive fast to the shops. The clients can follow their orders throughout the entire transport via Blue Water’s Track & Trace system. Further, they have the opportunity to change the consignee for each order up until the time where the cargo arrives in the warehouse. Cargo can be in stock until the client wants delivery – also for part deliveries which are carried out as Pick & Pack – in which Blue Water picks, packs and labels custom-

made orders. “The Pick & Pack concept increases the flexibility for our clients who are able to react very fast to changes in a market. In other words, it creates value for the clients to have this solution and this value has great importance in our development of new products and services. We are experiencing growing demand for these services from a series of clients who wish to optimize their existing logistics set-up”, says Carsten Eskildsen.

Millions of packages Each year, millions of packages to and from the largest markets in Europe are distributed through Blue Water’s distinctive package concept. The concept is based on an advanced IT-system developed by the transport specialists in Blue Water and IT experts in close cooperation with the clients. This service is adapted to match the clients’ needs and the system provides full overview and exposure throughout the transport ensuring a short transit time and a consistency in supply.

“Several of our clients have gained significant improvements and savings in their package distribution which now functions in an effective way and enables them to send and receive packages easily. Blue Water has been working with this system for nearly ten years, so the concept is tested thoroughly and has proven its worth. Foundations for DanTysk The yellow TPs (transition pieces) stand tall on the quayside in Esbjerg and right next to them are monopiles weighing 550 tons. In Esbjerg, Blue Water will handle the loading of these components on behalf of ABJV (Aarsleff Bilfinger Berger Joint Venture) who has the installation contract for the project. Four sets of TPs and monopiles are loaded onto the installation vessel “Seafox 5” at a time. “It is an impressive sight standing next to these giants which will be part of the DanTysk Offfshore wind farm. We are extremely proud that we have been chosen for this operation and that we are able to work with ABJV”, says Jacob Kjærgaard, Head of Sales & Development within Wind in Blue Water. The wind farm is located on the maritime border between Denmark and Germany and once completed the 80 turbines will supply electricity equal to the consumption of 400,000 households. All operations and management activities related to the wind park will be carried out from Esbjerg.

Renewable Energy in France Blue Water Brest participated in the Thetis Marine Renewable Energy International Convention 2013. ”It was important for us to participate because Marine Renewable Energy is an area in development. In France, offshore energy is evolving massively and the Brittany Region is ideally located for offshore, tidal and wave energies. We have a lot to offer to this industry with our competences”, says Mogens Nielsen who is country manager for Blue Water in France.

From Asia to Europe From August 2012 to March 2013, Blue Water in Singapore has shipped almost 120,000 cbm wind turbines from China to Spain and Italy. “We expect a substantial amount of wind turbines to be exported out of China in the future. Blue Water provides tailormade solutions, and we are characterised by a ‘can do’ spirit, good teamwork and always focusing on our clients”, says Jason Goh, General Manager for Blue Water in Singapore. The shipments included 26 nacelles, 104 tower sections and 78 blades loaded from the ports of Bayguquan, Yingkou and Jiangyin.

Two accommodation vessels on route to North Sea projects Comfort-at-Sea – the joint venture between Blue Water Shipping and International Shipping Partners has made an agreement with Areva to deliver two accommodation vessels for wind projects in the German part of the North Sea. For nine and six months respectively, the vessels “Ocean Atlantic” and “Sea Discoverer” will participate in the offshore wind projects Global Tech 1 and Trianel wind farm Borkum. Areva delivers the turbines for these projects. “This is two important contracts for us. As the installations and projects take place further and further from the coast the demand for accommodation ships rise to minimize the transport of crew to 4

and from shore”, says Jacob Kjærgaard, Head of Sales and Development at Blue Water Wind. This is the fourth and fifth ship delivered by Comfort at Sea to the offshore wind turbine industry. “Ocean

Atlantic” is the newest ship in a fleet of 23 ships in total. All ships have different advantages and the “Ocean Atlantic” has a Ro/Ro ramp and deck capacity for both containers and workshop.

Fantastisc offshore cooperation

Blue Water has loaded the last component from the Port of Esbjerg to the German wind farm Riffgat Offshore Wind Farm which is being constructed in the North Sea. The turbines are installed by the experienced Norwegian company Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, who reflects on a positive project. “The cooperation with Blue Water has been excellent and we are very pleased with the quality and service we have ex-

perienced”, says Petter Faye Søyland, Project Manager from Fred. Olsen Windcarrier. The fundamental values of Blue Water have been a source to the good cooperation. “We have an extensive experience within the offshore industry and a professional approach to create the best solutions in cooperation with our clients. But in general, first and foremost we focus on the needs of our clients”, says Klaus Odby Jensen, Agency Manager from Blue Water. The installations have been carried out from the vessel “Bold Tern”. Blue Water has acted as agent for the vessel and the company’s stevedores have handled all loading operations. “We have loaded “Bold Tern” four times with a total of 30 turbines including nacelles, tower sections and rotor blades. In addition to the stevedore assignments, we have also handled crew changes, various purchases for the ship and ensured that spare parts have been delivered”, says Klaus Odby Jensen. Ro/ro solution for Vestas Water’s wind department. For years, Blue Water has been working to develop solutions and special equipment for ro/ro transports of turbines in Esbjerg, which is the largest port in Denmark in terms of turbine shipping – a discipline in which Blue has a dominant position. “The turbines are becoming bigger and bigger as a result of the development in the industry which makes road transports of the turbines challenging. Therefore, the ro/ro method may well grow in the future and it pleases us that we can offer this service – also when situations like this arise”, says Brian Sørensen.

When the Rader Hochbrücke which crosses the Kiel Canal was closed for trucks in August, Vestas was likely to have problems with their wind turbine transports by road. Blue Water works closely with Vestas and chartered the ro/ro ferry “Clipper Pennant” with very short warning to transport the turbines by sea instead. Blue Water has chartered ships for projects like this before and the agreement with Vestas applies while the bridge is being renovated. The turbines are

shipped from Esbjerg and Aabenraa to Bremerhafen and Rostock, and Blue Water’s experts ensure that the turbines are handled properly on route. “We have the expertise to handle a project like this and ensure the right set-up regarding terminal and stevedoring operations and operating the ships. We quickly chartered the ship and established the right equipment to ensure quality and safety in connection with the assignment”, says Brian Sørensen of Blue

In April, Smyril Blue Water participated in the North Atlantic Fish Fair, which was held in Klasvik on the Faroe Islands, and is particularly for suppliers to the fish industry. “Our stand had a lot of visitors and both our colleagues from Hirtshals and Tor-

shavn received exciting inquiries, feedback on our services and had a chance to talk about new possibilities for transport to and from the Faroe Islands”, says John Frandsen, General Manager from Smyril Blue Water’s head office in Torshavn.

Exclusive agreement in Greenland In the spring, Blue Water entered a three-year exclusive agreement with Mittarfeqarfiit (Airports in Greenland) for all freight activities from/to/in Greenland. Mittarfeqarfiit runs a total of 13 airports in Greenland, and the agreement entails that we seek to optimize the deliveries for the airports throughout the three year period in a common effort. We will do this via the freight calculator we have developed containing the prices, frequencies for departure and transit times we have arranged in the contract – these depend on which freight category the airports choose when they put an order in. We have had agent agreements for many years with Mittarfeqarfiit in cities such as Kangerlussuaq and Kulusuk. We expect that this agent cooperation will increase in the nearest future so more cities in Greenland will be involved. The freight calculator was so well received with Mittarfeqarfiit and its freight consultant that we would like to offer this added value to our many other clients – also outside Greenland.

Sea and air freight in the Faroe Islands Blue Water considers the North Atalantic (the Faroes, Iceland and Greenland) as part of the home market and wish to develop the activities in the area. Therefore, we operate with sea and airfreight as of June and at the moment we are hiring additional staff. In this way, we follow our motto to be locally represented and at the same time we are able to handle all our seven business areas.

Blue Water Arena in the Faroe Islands Smyril Blue Water is the new head sponsor for the football club AB Argir in Tors­ havn on the Faroe Islands. “This year, AB has advanced to the national premier league and we see a good opportunity to develop our involvement in the club which began when we sponsored their kit in 2008. French reefer export increase

Since September 2009, Blue Water has handled 40’ reefer containers of frozen meat for our good Danish client BHJ to the port of Le Havre. The Blue Water office in Sao Paolo ensures the transport from Brazil to France, and a few months

ago BHJ asked BWS if we could receive more containers, handle discharge of the container in a coldstore and oncarriage by road. As this cargo is used for pet food specific sanitary authorisations is needed, so Blue Water and our local partner Cap Gel Coldstore, implemented the necessary formalities and now the agreement has been granted. The first container was received and discharged in June, and BHJ confirmed that more containers are on their way to Le Havre. On a wider scale, reefer import is becoming an important activity for Blue Water France following a good trend with a new record of imported fish containers in Brest in 2012. Also, the launch of regular imports of frozen fruits in Fos (the container port in Marseille) and fresh fruits in Antwerp together with the increasing activity in Le Havre shows a good development.

Transshipment in high seas For close to 20 years, the reefer chartering department based in Brest, France, has been organising vessels for high seas transshipment of frozen fish, mostly off the coast of Western Africa. “High seas transshipments are highly regulated and take place under the strict control of the local authorities. To transship you need one or more trawlers, a reefer vessel, geared with derricks or cranes (usually derricks are preferred) and a permit from the local authorities, who send a surveyor and a customs offi­ cer on board the fishing trawler during the transshipment operations. The gear of both vessels is interconnected with cables and the cargo is swung from the fishing trawler into the reefer vessel’s cargo hold - called “loading in union purchase”. If the waves are strong both vessels will steam under slow power to avoid too much rolling and pitching during loading operations, which run non-stop, 24 hours a day”, says Robyn Briand from Blue Water in Brest. The trawlers are equipped with fenders to prevent damage to own hull or that of the reefer vessels. Often

With its enormous growth potential, the Vietnamese market is a very interesting geographical area for Blue Water. We have therefore chosen to start our own office in Ho Chi Minh focusing on general cargo, wind, oil, gas & industrial projects and reefer logistics. “We are constantly searching for opportunities to develop our business so we can meet the requirements clients have for a global transport and logistics company such as Blue Water. For some time, we have had our eyes set on Asia which sees high growth and where Blue Water already has a good set-up with our base in Singapore. Outstanding safety work awarded Blue Water has been honored with an award for outstanding safety work. At a Scandinavian safety conference in Denmark, Director Nicola Gordon from Shell Oil and Gas in Denmark presented Se­ nior HSSE & Quality Specialist from Blue Water, Kim Beier with the prize. “At Blue Water the health and safety of our employees is a top priority. Trai­ ning and information for all employees is part of our constant improvement. We encourage a ‘zero incident mindset” as described in our standards for HSSEQ which applies for all Blue Water offices worldwide”, says Kim Beier, who is part of Blue Water’s global HSSEQ department. the award for his astonishing work for safety. Last year, Blue Water won a safety award when Dong Energy hosted the ­seventh annual Suppliers Day.

Once again, Blue Water has been preferred as logistics provider for a large FPSO project. We were awarded the job of transporting seven modules by barge from Batam, Indonesia to Tuas, Singapore for our trusted client PTSC Asia Pacific. “Each module, is to be delivered and installed on the FPSO “PTSC Lam Son”, currently undergoing conversion work at Keppel Shipyard in Singapore”, says Jason Goh, Regional General Manager for Blue Water in Singapore. Measuring 15 x 15 x 10 meters at 125 metric tons, the first module was safely delivered to the shipyard as per schedule. Blue Water Shipping has since delivered the remaining six topside modules in June and July.

Repositioning drilling rig When a drilling rig was to be repositioned of the Egyptian coast around Abu Quir, Blue Water handled the operation to position a new anchor system. The operation was carried out by chartering the Norweigan special vessel “Havila Jupitor” – a so called anchor handling vessel. “Our tasks were to coordinate the loading operations, crew change, bunkering etc. We had to ensure that everything regarding this operation went off smoothly and according to the plan”, says Nikolaj Buurgaard Sørensen, Project Manager from

Blue Water Esbjerg. The special vessel was chartered in Bergen, Norway and sailed to Moerdijk, Holland where anchors, wires etc. was loaded on board. Then, the ship set course towards Las Palmas for the next part of the operation. “The anchor chains were transported from USA to Las Palmas where they were winded on the “Havila Jupiter”. Afterwards, the vessel went to Abu Quir to lay out the anchor system which will hold the drilling rig at its position”, says Nikolaj Buurgaard.

Focus on the mining industry Blue Water’s team of experts have years of experience within worldwide transport and logistics for the mining industry. We offer a wide variety of services focu­sing on Africa, Greenland, Canada and Australia where mining is a primary enterprise experiencing rising activity and development. To strengthen our setup, we have recently welcomed two experts, Niels Mikkelsen and Jens Schiøler Pedersen. Between them, they have more than twenty years

9,000 meters of anchor chain

In July, we had the pleasure of a visit from our good client Keppel Fels visiting the headquarters in Esbjerg for an audit. They were accompanied by Jason Goh and Serene Goh from Singapore. For many years, Blue Water has conducted business with Keppel Fels which is a global leader in offshore rig design and has a comprehensive network of shipyards.

Rapid growth in Libya Blue Water Shipping has extensive experience with handling anchor chains used in mooring systems of floating offshore transfer or production system. From a logistic point of view, handling of chains requires smooth execution to minimize time consumption. In June and July, Blue Water provided services to ensure timely load out of chains and anchors onto Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels for our Holland based client Bluewater Energy Services B.V. which specialises in design, manufacturing and installation of floating production, storage or transfer systems. ”In this particular project, the chains arrived in the Port of Niterói in the second half of June and first week of July in five batches. Each batch was loaded directly onto the AHTS provided by the end client”, says Tiago Bitiu, Sales Manager from Blue Waters Rio de Janeiro office.

The chains arrived from the Brazilian manufacturer on local barges. In the port, the chains were stretched in the storage area before winding onto the ATHS. Simutaneously, 16 tons of anchors arrived to the port in two parts, and these anchors were assembled prior to load on the deck of the AHTS. This project is part of the construction of an oil transfer and export terminal system in the Campos Basin at a water depth of 70 meters for the Brazilian Company Petrobras. Bluewater Energy Services B.V., based in the Netherlands, provided the services to Bluewater do Brasil Servicos de Energia LTDA acting as design, construction and installation contractor providing services for the offshore oil & gas industry for delivery of F(P)SO, Floating (Production) & Storage Operations, Floating Storage and Offloading systems and SPM’s (Single Point Mooring Systems).

One of Finland’s largest, privately owned freight forwarding companies Wikeström & Krogius - has decided to sell and become part of Danish owned Blue Water Shipping. W&K was established in 1850, and is today a very strong brand in Finland. The company is specialised in road, sea, and air transports as well as project transports and comprehensive logistical solutions. W&K has 38 employees and 3 offices in Finland. In 2012, the turnover was EUR 23 m. The takeover will take effect on 1 September 2013 and Blue Water will retain the brand name W&K - a part of Blue Water. Henrik Mahlberg will take on position as Managing Director of the activities of W&K and Blue Water in Finland. ”It has always been our goal to build a nactive and developing cooperation with our clients and to provide the best possible logistical, cost efficient and tailormade solutions for each specific client need. I believe that Blue Water Shipping is the right home for Wikeström & Krogius, so I expect a lot from this merger, and look forward to become a part of

Increased activity has lead Blue Water to purchase further buildings and areas at ‘Fiskerihavnen’ – an area of the Port of Esbjerg. Fiskerihavnen has lately become a focal point for activities relating to the oil, gas and wind sector. The area is a base for service, installation and crew boats for wind farms and the offshore sector in the Northern Sea. This is also where restorations and upgrades are made to drilling rigs. “Fiskerihavnen is part of an exciting development with new initiatives and strategically this fits with Blue Waters present and future activities within these industries which is the reason why we have decided to buy the buildings and areas”, says Kurt Skov. The facilities cover an area of 13,500 sqm with 7,500 sqm of warehouse and administration facilities. The newly bought facilities are to strengthen Blue Water’s set-up in respect of port related operations which the company is strongly involved.

Blue Water opens its second office in Sweden The opening of an office in the Swedish capital of Stockholm is a natural development of Blue Water’s activities in Scandinavia. ”Stockholm is an important business area in Sweden and today, we already have many existing clients in and around Stockholm. Worldwide, clients and business partners alike expect Blue Water to have similar geographical coverage of Sweden as we have in Denmark, Norway and Finland. The office in Stockholm will open on 1 September, and we have employed 28-year-old Fredrik Pellegrini, who will be fully focusing on sales in the Stockholm area as well as the northern part of Sweden. The office is located just outside of Sweden’s largest airport, Stockholm-Arlanda, and about 40 km from the city center and Stockholm seaport. Successful Danish airfreight 2012 was the best year so far for Blue Water’s airfreight departments and the success continues in 2013 peaking in May with the best month in Blue Water’s history. Today, Blue Water is established as one of the leading freight forwarders in Denmark when speaking of airfreight shipments out of Denmark. ”We are very proud and grateful of the fact that we continue to grow in a market under pressure - a fact which can be contributed to our clients, suppliers and not least skilled staff ”, says Jesper Nielsen, Airfreight Manager, Blue Water Copenhagen.

New partner in Italy

Transport exhibition in Munich This year, Blue Water participated as part of the Port of Hirtshals stand at the Transport & Logistics exhibition in Munich. 2,013 exhibitors divided between 110.000 sqm and more than 51,000 visitors makes it the largest European exhibition within transport, logistics, IT and supply change management. Blue Water was represented by several Danish offices and colleagues from the office in Munich. Everyone agreed that the exhibition was a success and that there were good opportunities to meet both new and existing clients and business partners.

Air Sea Worldwide visits Amsterdam The Amsterdam office received a visit from our longstanding agent Air Sea Worldwide Ltd from Manchester. “We have been working with these gentlemen since 1990. ASW is a Hong Kong based freight forwarding company with offices in China, Taipei, Vietnam as well as in Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico Chile and 2 offices in the U.K., London and Manchester. They took the opportunity

to visit us and get more closely acquainted with us. ASW has been handling air transports for the Illhabela project out of the UK on our behalf and we have had intense contact this season. We had a pleasant meeting with ASW discussing a number of work related topics. The main objective however, was getting more familiar with each other”, says Bob Tisserand of Blue Water in Amsterdam.

Addition to Princeton University In May, the deep sea department in Es­ bjerg handled an exciting project from Petersen Tegl – a Danish brickworks which manufactures and sells bricks – for the distinguished Princeton University in New Jersey, USA. The cargo was bricks for a new building “The Andlinger Center” for Energy and Environment. In total, we had to handle 292.000 handmade Kolumba bricks which are twice the length of ordinary bricks. The 1,260 Euro pallets of bricks weighed 1,400 t. Petersen Tegl was founded in 1971, and is driven by the 7. generation today. The annual production is around 18 million bricks and about 2 million of the Kolumba bricks, which are sold in most of Europe and USA.

The Agency department in Esbjerg is presently experiencing very high activity levels, with around 40-60 vessels calling Esbjerg every month, with Blue Water as agents. The activities include offshore wind installation vessels, offshore oil & gas vessels, wind turbine transports, tanker vessels, coal transports, crew transfer vessels etc. We are very happy with the development in activities, and with the rising demand for quality agency services. The amount of vessels handled by Blue Water, and the positive feedback from our clients is clear proof that our agency concept works.

We provided the services while the vessel was in for her annual technical stop. The Airbus 380 sections are transported from Airbus factories via the ports of Hamburg, Mostyn, Saint-Nazaire and Cadix to the main assembly facilities of Airbus Toulouse.

Busy in the Port of Aalborg Blue Water’s agency department in Aalborg was busy on one of the last days of July. “We had five port calls on the same day. The ship “Atlantic” brought 16 units of cable drums each weighing 55 t from Naples for a large project for Energinet.dk and we handled both stevedoring, agency and transport to our storage facilities. Simultaneously, four self-discharging vessels from Norway each with a capacity of 3 to 4,000 t of bulk cargo called to port”, says shipbroker Peter Højer.

Blue Water Lindø has had 24-hour activity since the converter platform “Helwin Alpha” arrived in May. “We have handled port agency, towage of the platform, crew change, provisioning for the towing boats and the offshore crew on the rig. We have also handled stevedoring, supplied crew for Lindø Industrial Park and Fayard and made sure that the cranes were manned 24/7. It has been an exciting task during which we also handled customs clearance in connection with the platform’s departure ”, says Line Broxgaard Bach of Blue Water Lindø. The activity took place in dock three at Lindø Industrial Park where Fayard cooperates with German Nordic Yards to handle the finishing assembly works of the converter platform.

Busy season for cruises It has affected the activity positively that cruises as a travel form has gained ground and that Copenhagen attracts more and more cruise tourists. “In the beginning of July, the ship “Birka Stockholm” called to port and in honor of that occasion a reception was held on board to mark the ships first port call in Copenhagen. We presented a ‘Stormglas’ (a specially designed barometer used at sea) to the captain as a reminder of the port call. Since then, the ship has been in Copenhagen two times”, says Blue Water’s Cruise Agency Manager Henrik Kristensen. The super yacht “Delma” also

swung by the Port of Copenhagen later on in July. The yacht is in the Mediterranean luxury class and has all modern facilities such as conference rooms, fitness centre and wine cellar. “Delma is an 85 meter long luxury yacht which brought 32 passengers and 36 crew members going from Germany via Norway and Sweden to Copenhagen. We supplied bunker (oil) and arranged restaurant vsits, activities, limousine transfer and city tours for the visitors. It was fun to see the beautiful ship which, by the way can be chartered for about 77,000 Euro a day”, says Henrik Kristensen.

On 1 June Blue Water acquired Airwan International which has its office in the Airport of Nantes in France, and is specialised in logistics solutions to the cruise and marine industry. Blue Water already has cruise and marine offices in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Rotterdam but now the network is expanded. The office in Nantes has four employees who are specialists in marine logistics and the daily responsibility is handled by Bruno Ferrand – one of Blue Water’s friends for many years.

Huge drydock project

For a few years, Blue Water has developed its portfolio with the handling of deliveries for cruise vessels in Copenhagen. About half of the 345 vessels which will call into the port during 2013 will be serviced by Blue Water. We deliver everything – from small courier packages, large airfreight shipments with spare parts, 40’ containers to supplies and other necessities for the passengers and crew. Further, we deliver and maintain equipment such

as wheelchairs and scooters for disabled passengers. As a new service, we have established a nationwide network of port agent offices which focus on cruise and marine activities just as the office in Copenhagen. The network handles transfers, hotel and visa applications for approx. 40-60 crew members from Norwegian Cruise Line when “Norwegian Star” calls into port every ninth day during the summer.

Senior Management Conference During the month of May, Kurt Skov & Lisette Trab Munk (Blue Water Esbjerg) and Hans Poiesz & Richard Buys (Blue Water Rotterdam) participated in the Senior Management Conference & Vendor Event, hosted by Holland America Line & Seabourn Cruises. The event took place onboard the iconic SS Rotterdam - flagship and former cruise vessel - now rebuilt and placed in the Port of Rotterdam as hotel ship. We enjoyed some great days among good friends from Holland America Line & Seabourn Cruises.

Through Cruise & Marine Logistic Network (C&MLN) and our partner Priano Marchelli, from April until June, Blue Water Shipping was involved in a drydock project for the “Carnival Triumph”, docked in Freeport, the Bahamas. We managed to do this huge project within our “Cruise & Marine Logistic Network” team, involving dedicated agents from various countries. During a 3 month period more than 600 ton were shipped - from Europe only - by charter flights, seafreight, airfreight and a few hand carry. From collection at the vendors locations until arrival at the yard, we managed to get all cargo into Freeport without any delays, naturally offering 24/7 service, and this huge project just again showed the great teamwork across offices and borders/countries. Second jack-up rig for Lamprell Energy on the way Following a successful delivery of the EDC Neptune from UAE to The Caspian Sea, Russia in 2012, Lamprell Energy selected Blue Water Shipping as its transport partner to deliver another LeTourneau S116E jack-up rig from its Hamriyah yard to The Caspian Sea - a project that has just commenced. “We selected Blue Water Shipping due to its competitive bid, but more importantly due to their many years of experience with large projects in the Caspian area including transport of rigs and other large modules”, says Kevin Isles, Executive Vice President, Lamprell Energy. The contract will cover the transport of a dismantled jack-up rig from Hamriyah via the Volga-Don river system to a yard in Russia. The transport covers four part shipments – the first one commenced in late August and the expected completion for the last shipment is in the spring of 2014. The total project will exceed 100,000 cbm and will cover lifts of up to 1,000 mts and modules up to 17.35 meters passing through the Volga-Don River. This is the second jack-up rig which Lamprell is building for Eurasia Drilling Company, the largest independent drilling company in Russia. With this new rig, EDC intends to further expand its offshore drilling activities in the Caspian Sea. Blue Water Shipping is very pleased with the trust shown by both Lamprell Energy and Eurasia Drilling Company.

“Being awarded the transport of the rig last year was a major step for us. But being awarded again by Lamprell Energy is vital – and we feel it as a great recognition of the way we acted and succeeded last year. Considerable expertise in the handling of transport and logistics assignments of this type is required, and Blue Water has been present in the Caspian area since the 90ies and has thereby gained considerable experience and skill with these special transports”, says Claus Laursen, Blue Water Shipping Dubai, who is responsible for the project.

Over the years, Blue Water has become one of the major players within the transport of giant constructions to the Caspian Sea through the Russian river system. Several of the transports handled by Blue Water Shipping have been drilling platforms or Floating-Storage-Offloading (FSO), which are special tank vessels for the storage of oil at sea. Platforms and FSOs are built at ship yards outside of the Caspian Sea, and due to the limited breadth and draught of the river system locks, it is necessary to separate the platforms into smaller sections, and subsequently assemble them upon arrival to the Caspian Sea.

Blue Water attended exhibition in Baku Blue Water participated with a team of oil and gas experts from Denmark, Azerbaijan and Scotland when the 20th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition took place in June at the Baku Expo Centre in Azerbaijan. “It was a couple of educational days both in regards of tendencies and the development within the industry. The oil & gas industry is in growth and we are doing everything we can to develop our expertise within Caspian transport solutions so we are always able to fulfill our client’s needs. We can accomplish any assignment no matter where in the world the company’s experts operate”, says Global Oil & Gas Manager of Blue Water Shipping, Thomas Bek.

New facilities in Baku Blue Water Baku is proud to announce that it has increased the terminal / warehouse in Baku by moving into new facilities. The new facility includes in-door secure storage as well as a large lay-down area outside. The new facility is currently undergoing an upgrade and we are confident that our existing and potential clients will find the facility very useful for future logistic job and projects. Weekend cruise w Normally, when Danes think of a weekend cruise, they think of a trip from Copenhagen to Oslo, but for Niels Tolstrup, Director Blue Water Wind Logistics, the weekend cruise was a somewhat different experience. In 2012, the Wind Logistics department in Esbjerg signed a contract with Siemens Wind Power to transport up to 160 wind turbines of 3.6 MW from Esbjerg to Mostyn in Wales. This transport was special as it had to be carried out as a ro/ro transport during whiche the goods are rolled onboard via ramps. As early as 2011, Blue Water handled three trial transports to Mostyn to test the ro/ro concept and the specially developed equipment. The trials proved successful, and Siemens Wind Power decided to go for a solution in which the transports to Mostyn for the Gwynt y Mor wind farm should be carried out as a complete ro/ro solution which has its advantages in connection with this wind farm. The port of Mostyn which is located a few sea miles from the wind farm is a small, private port, and the limited quayside is reserved for expensive installation vessels. A ro/ro solution makes it possible to use a linkspan ro/ro ramp for the ship in the western part of the port while the parking area, originating from the time during which the port had ferry calls from P&O Ferries, can be used for storage after unloading. This gives a better use of the port and the loading of the wind turbine components does not interfere with the loading of the installation vessels. Blue Water won the tender for this large transport project which began in poor weather in January 2013 and will go on for about a year. For this particular project, Blue Water has chartered the ro/ro vessel “Seatruck Pace” from the Seatruck/ Clipper group. This shipping group has its own ferry routes in the Irish Sea. The ships are custom-made for these routes and a perfect fit for small ports challenged by the tide – exactly the kind of challenge, we are facing in Mostyn. Fur16

thermore, the ship has a large clearance height on the main deck and on the ramp to the weather deck which is important when transporting the large components of a 3.6 MW Siemens turbine. Unique cooperation The whole operation has required a lot of innovative thoughts, and the stevedore department and naval engineers of Blue Water have spent many hours in order to find the right solutions. Several innovative transport solutions and equipment has been developed in cooperation with Siemens Wind Power. We have reaped the benefits of the preparatory work, as the operation is running smoothly, and it is especially positive to see the close cooperation in Mostyn between Blue Water Danbrit, Mostyn Port, Seatruck stevedoring and the crew of Seatruck which ensure an effective operation. It is rarely seen that so many people from so many companies work so closely and professionally together. The Port of Mostyn can be quite a challenge, as it is located on a river with a tidal range of up to nine meters. This means that both arrival and departure must be precisely timed – if not, you risk waiting for 12 hours for next high tide, and there are periods of time where loading/unloading is impossible, as the angle of the ramp is too steep for a safe operation. “Seatruck Pace” has now sailed the route between Esbjerg-Mostyn-Esbjerg for more than six months, and I signed on the ship on a Friday in July in Mostyn with good weather (this is important for someone who does not have sea legs). After visiting the Port Manager Will Calderbak and a chat about the good cooperation, a possibility to see the impressive loading operation arose. This is carefully man-

aged by Thomas Bryan from Blue Water Danbrit. Not many centimeters’ variance is allowed when the turbine blades are discharged from the weather deck, and there is a big difference in the height and driving angles at the same time. So you really need to watch your steps, and obviously the parties involved work with great routine. Activities at sea Following the loading, “Seatruck Pace” slowly headed west this Friday. The water was bright and calm, but the previous low tide made it clear that it was necessary to stay quite accurately in the channel as the water depth outside the channel is very low. This was evident in January when another ro/ro ship during a storm tore away and got stuck on a sandbar for two weeks. The word in Mostyn was that the ship was unable to produce power on its own, so the crew had takeaway food brought every day. On the way out on the river, “Seatruck Pace” passes an old, small wind farm and the new Gwynt y Mor Farm on which installations are currently ongoing. The beautiful summer weather in recent weeks means good production and several installation ships are at work. Furthermore, there is an accommodation vessel near the park, and it is crawling with small service vessels ferrying staff around the area. The whole area is humming with activity, and the crew from “Seatruck Pace” can now see how the wind turbine components brought in recently are installed. “Seatruck Pace” is only four years old and is a very well-maintained and well-managed ship with a crew driven by interest and involvement. They are all pleased to sail this route with fewer port calls than

with Seatruck Pace normally. Most people might think that the trip to Esbjerg goes through the English Channel, but a trip north of Scotland is 70 sea miles shorter and thus saves both time and fuel. The Irish Sea shows itself from its good side and the passing of Isle of Man is beautiful with the view to a green island with slopes and a picturesque lighthouse – it almost resembles a picture from the Faroe Islands. There is hardly any traffic – but strangely enough, the first ship we encounter is a sister ship from Seatruck – yes, after all, a small world. Beautiful landscape “Seatruck Pace” is registered in Limassol and normally has a crew of 18 men – yes, there are no women on board. Most are from Poland, and they work for six weeks followed by six weeks at home. The captain, Colin Batty, is English and has sailed on ferries and ro/ro ships for many years. In addition, there are three naval cadets on board – they are training with a ship’s mate on the bridge and also during loading/unloading operations. Everything on board happens nice and easy, and clearly everything is rehearsed well and the sailing between Esbjerg and Mostyn has become routine. Even the captain’s two turtles are taking it easy and enjoying the sun behind the bridge. A few times on the way, the silence is broken as you spot flocks of dolphins on the starboard side. Even an experienced sailor goes to take a look when that happens. Just after lunch on Saturday, a few mountain tops come into sight through the mist, and after a while we can see Isle of Skye and very beautiful surroundings for the next couple of hours. There are high slopes, lots of grassy hills, mountains, sheep and several houses. The island is known for its whiskies, but from a distance of 2 to 3 kilometers, one can only dream of them, as the ship has a strict no alcohol policy. On our left, the cruise vessel m/s Eurodam appears. This vessel is from Blue

Water’s first cruise logistics client Holland America Line. This magnificent ship measures 285 meters and is headed for Ireland. Close to shore, the dolphins reappear and also some birds – I wonder if it may be puffins? Later in the afternoon, two whales show up and suddenly two dolphins dive under the ship to play. One of the ship’s mates says that he saw two sharks this morning, so we are in active waters; some very big birds also circle around us for a while. Tension at midnight Late afternoon, the ship’s mate slows down to 11 knots. We must time our arrival on the narrow strait of Pentland Firth so the tide will turn our way which will happen around midnight. There are several crews on guard, as I enter the bridge moments before midnight, and you can feel the tension. Now, it is both dark and very foggy, so the foghorn is on. The speed is over 19 knots, meaning that the current is about 6 to 7 knots. Sometimes the current can be up to 12 knots. The strait is approximately 4 kilometers wide, so the speed must be carefully adjusted also because of traffic. Everything on the bridge is kept under total darkness – you can only see the red and blue colors from

the instruments. This night, there is no other traffic than “Seatruck Pace”, and by 1:30 we are in the North Sea, and I am turning in after an interesting passing. On Sunday morning the weather has changed. It is raining, it is cold and windy but things go well although the crew teases me that it will be worse later. But the captain explains that the wind will change during the day, so the waves will probably not be big. It turns out, however, that his prediction proves wrong. We are experiencing wind speeds of 27 to 30 meters per second, or, as they said in the old days – wind force 12 – which equals storm and is the second highest level you measure a wind force. Therefore, it is all about going to the cabin to lie down for the next hours through the North Sea. Monday morning brings calm waters, a beautiful sunrise and entrance to the Port of Esbjerg where the captain gently with the joystick puts the ship to the ramp. Half an hour later, Blue Water’s stevedores begin unloading the ship, and in the afternoon “Seatruck Pace” once again sets course north of Scotland with a full load of wind turbines. Summer parties Blue Water Aalborg has held its traditional summer party. All participants met in the morning in the local barracks and were divided into teams. Each team had to go through 5 challenges including an obstacle course and a series of ‘mind tests’. The afternoon ended with an award ceremony with some fine prizes for the winning team. Although there was only one winning team everybody was challenged and participated in good spirit. Later, there was dinner and bowling before the day ended in the late hours. Everybody

met faithfully at work Monday morning – with a bit of sore muscles from the challenges of the weekend. Also, Blue Water Aarhus had arranged a summer party at the Dayz Resort Rønbjerg. All day there were competitions at the obstacle course, in ‘rubber boat basket’, in a creative assignment and in ‘the swamp’ where the team had to build a mobile bridge to get over the swamp without getting their feet wet. Competition, hard work and team spirit characterised the day which ended with great food and a pleasant evening.

Quality Lead Auditor training

As of 1 June, we have launched our new claims and complaints procedure in Denmark. All departments now have a coordinator affiliated to ensure that all claims and complaints are registered and treated as the guidelines prescribe. In addition, we have appointed a central coordinator – Mira Olivia Falck – who will assist where it is necessary in order to solve the case quickly and efficient. The new claims and complaints procedure is created to raise the quality for our clients.

During June, a team of 10 Blue Water employees finished and passed the IRCA approved ISO 9001 Lead Auditor training. The training is standardised and approved in 150 countries. These employees will prospectively be part of the internal audit team.

Anti-corruption We have had a half day seminar relating to anti-corruption and the competition act for leading employees. The consultancy firm KPMG gave an introduction to the competition act regarding this area which was the basis for a discussion of the risks Blue Water has in connection with the activities we carry out, and how we handle them. There was a good debate and the participants were very involved. The main conclusions of the discussion was: • That Blue Water must be aware of the risks we are subject to • That Blue Water must meet demands from clients to document how these risks are handled • That it is an area necessary to focus on to protect Blue Water, employees and clients In the following evaluation of the seminar, 90 per cent said that the seminar was relevant and around 65 per cent said that they would recommend it to others.

Next year, Brazil will host the World Cup in Football. But the Rio office has already started the warm up and they show off their skills each week when competing against a team from SBM Offshore.

Export conference in Spain In the end of May, the “Club Transitario Marítimo” (CTM) located in Barcelona and chaired by our employee and Ma­ naging Director in Blue Water Spain, Amadeu Outeiro organised a conference with the purpose of economic reflection on exports. It was arranged in cooperation with the Minister of Enterprise and Employment in Catalonia, Mr. Felip Puig and the President of the Business Association for Catalonian companies, Mr. Joaquin Gay de Monteya. More than 300 people from Catalonian export companies listened and later participated in the debate from lecturers, composed by multiple teachers of different and prestigious economics and business schools. It resulted in many conclusions of which the 18

Charlotte joins us from Damco where she was involved in airfreight as well as key accounts. Copenhagen Lasse franzen, 27 years old, forms part of our continental road traffic team since 1.5. Lasse comes from a job with Itella. On 1.6, Niels Raae Andersen, 49 years old, started as freight forwarder in airfreight import. Niels’ latest job was as airfreight import manager for Seatainer. Before that, he worked for Dantransport as import route manager Far East. Jackie Hansen, 48 years old, started as terminal assistant on 1.6. Jackie is a very experienced warehouse assistant and his previous employments include STK, Silvan and Nycomed. Stig Andersen, 35 years old, is employed as freight forwarder in our deep sea department. Stig’s latest job was as export supervisor at DHL. Esbjerg 29-year-old Maria Daugbjerg Nielsen has become permanently employed as accounting assistant in accounts payable as from 1.4. For a period, Maria used to be a student worker in accounts payable and finance in Esbjerg.

As from 1.5, we have employed 52-year-old Lone Løvgreen Thiim as administrative assistant in the IT department responsible for licences, service agreements etc. Lone completed her apprenticeship as a legal secretary in 1984 and joins us from the law firm Højbjerg Jensen, Vogel & Gammelby in the town of Varde. As from 30.5, we have taken on 49-year-old Bent Mikkelsen as terminal assistant. Bent is attached to the DONG base for which we took over all warehousing and logistics as per 19.8. Kaj used to work as a casual labourer for Baker Hughes. 31-year-old Stig Schlosser, joined our team of IT supporters on 3.6. Stig served his apprenticeship with Fødevarestyrelsen in Copenhagen where he performed the function of IT onsite supporter before he joined Blue Water. Lars Schneider, 35 years old, started as freight forwarder in the domestic department on 10.6. Lars comes from a similar position with Otto Hansen & Co. Søren Bertelsen, 36 years old, forms part of our terminal team as terminal assistant since 24.6. Søren comes from Fæsted Vognmandsforretning, but was for many years employed with STARK.

For the recent 16 years, Jan has worked as a casual labourer for Stark and Lemvig Müller. On 1.7, Anton Jensen, 60 years old, started as terminal assistant. Jubilees 30 years On 1.9, Brigitte Jegou from Blue Water Lorient will be celebrating her 30th anniversary with Blue Water. This young, talented and all-round lady started her career at our first client/partner in France, Amaltex. Then she got a job in Lorient Shipping on 1.9.83, which shortly after became Blue Water Shipping France. Brigitte has many talents. She started her career as a customs broker and shipping agent, while doing the bookkeeping for our then three-person office with her left hand. Over the years, Blue Water France grew. Today we have four offices in France, which Brigitte handles very professionally as Accounting and Administration Manager. However, Brigitte’s talents do not stop at bookkeeping, shipping and customs agent, she is also a very good singer and entertainer, with her often quick comments, and organiser of our annual company skiing excursion. Not forgetting her husband Jean-Pierre, who is an outstanding snowboarder and lead singer on our tour bus.

Silver On 1.12.88, Blue Water’s office in Odense was established with a staff of 13. On 1.12.2013, the following 6 colleagues, out of the original 13, will be celebrating their silver jubilees: Jørgen Larsen (now Blue Water Aarhus) joined Blue Water Odense at the opening of the office on Funen. Jørgen had always formed part of our warehouse team and performed the function of Warehouse Manager in Odense when he, in 1998, pulled up stakes and moved to Blue Water Aarhus. Everything is going with a swing when Jørgen is in action, sparks may fly if things do not fall into place and his Funen temper will overheat. However, Jørgen will soon calm down and smile again. He is a true company man, always loyal to Blue Water and never afraid of making an extra effort to make things work. Jørgen likes to travel during his holidays or just relax in the family’s flat in Turkey. However, he and his wife also find time to go camping with their grandchildren.

Having served her apprenticeship as an office clerk with Bøg Jørgensens Maskinfabrik in Odense, Lea Madsen started her freight forwarding career at InterService, Odense in 1973 and stayed on until the establishment of Blue Water Odense in 1988. For many years, Lea was an important part of the seed department, and she still knows the weight/ measures of most types of seed by heart. Over the years, Lea’s job has changed to become more administrative and she surely stands for good order. Lea lives in Sanderum with her husband, Bent, and their two children, Joan and Tommy. She has also been blessed with a grandchild, Freja, whom the whole family cherishes like the apple of their eyes. In recent years, Lea and Bent enjoy spending their holidays south of the border exploring towns and villages in Germany among other countries. Having received his training at a lumberyard, Per Offersen went to the States and stayed there for about a year. Upon his return to Odense, he started with Inter-Service where he completed his apprenticeship in 1981. Per’s principal occupation was overseas transport and he was soon promoted to manager of the deep sea department, a position he held until the establishment of Blue Water Odense in 1988. Under the auspices of Blue Water, Per was also in charge of the deep sea department in Odense for a number of years, but he now performs the function of key account for major clients and is also in charge of local project clients. Per is also a very competent event maker and therefore a natural choice as coordinator in connection with client and staff events. Per lives in Dalum with his wife, Vibeke, and they have two children, Simone and Emil. Per is also a sports enthusiast. In his younger days, Per’s main interests were football and handball whereas they have now changed to golf and cycling. Per has of course also cycled to Paris. Ronald Hansen completed his apprenticeship with Inter-Service, Odense in 1980 having been around e.g. the seed department. For many years, Ronald’s principal field of responsibility was road transport with Germany, Benelux and the UK being his specialities. However, Ronald could not hide his natural ability to communicate with other people and gain their trust, and was moving towards a sales job.

Soon after the opening of the Odense office in 1988, Ronald was transferred to a full-time sales job, a job he still holds. Ronald is, without exaggeration, the most well-known salesman, when it comes to freight forwarding services on Funen. Even today, after 25 years of service, the Funen companies still give him a hearty welcome. Ronald is married to Dorthe, and the family also includes their four children: Christian, Trine, Andreas and Sara. After a long and promising football career, Ronald’s primary leisure time activity is now golf, which he likes to play from the early morning. Claus Bo Larsen started his freight forwarding career as a trainee in InterService, Odense in 1984. Claus Bo soon proved to have a capacity for customs handling which has been his primary responsibility ever since. Today Claus Bo possesses a knowledge and experience that gives him the status as one of the leading experts within this field in Denmark. In addition to his central position in Blue Water’s customs division, Claus Bo is extremely active in the special customs committee under the Danish Freight Forwarders’ Association, where he is often in dialogue with the Tax Authorities and the minister in charge. Claus Bo knowns for sure how to create a cheerful atmosphere for both his colleagues and business relations. It is simply impossible to feel bored in his company. His abilities as a referee have resulted in his long FIFA career which has taken him around the world to many famous football stadiums. In addition, Claus Bo has, on several occasions been elected referee of the year in Denmark. His football career has now come to an end, leaving Claus Bo more time with his family: his wife Vibeke and children, Nicolai, Nicoline and Jonathan. Søren Nielsen received his training as a shipping agent at Skibsmægler Svane & Gjørding, Kolding (firm of shipbrokers) in 1979. In 1981, he accepted a job in the transport department of Lemvig Müller & Munch in Copenhagen. Next step on the career ladder was an appointment as manager of the customs department at Inter-Service in Odense on Funen, and later the responsibility for a number of road activities. 1.12.88 was a historic day, which marked the opening of Blue Water’s office in Odense. Jubilees until 2002, when he took over the position of General Manager of the office. Today, Blue Water Odense is the biggest freight forwarding company on the island of Funen, with more than 60 employees and a significant location facing the motorway. Another landmark event in Søren’s career was the start-up of our branch office at the former Lindø Shipyard in February 2011. Our new branch now has a staff of 20 and the new Funen maritime industrial park still holds great development potential. In addition to his job, Søren is also chairman of Fynske Speditører (the Freight Forwarders’ Association on Funen) and a board member in Fynsk Erhverv (Funen Trade & Industry). Søren lives in Dalum with his wife, Kirsten, and they are both golf enthusiasts, which is easily combinable with exotic holiday destinations.

20 years 20 years ago (on 1.10), Blue Water Brest hired a young man, with a lot of hair, called Fabrice Rolland, as a shipping clerk to develop our reefer container activities in France. We have to be honest and mention that he was not hired for his football talents. Fabrice is more made for ”endurance sports” like swimming or bicycling, although he also manages to get down the ski run with some style during our company excursions. Today, 20 years later, this still young man has worked his way up to become Blue Water France’s Overseas Container Manager controlling substantial volumes of reefer cargo and is an excellent and very popular Deputy Manager at Blue Water Brest. In his private life, Fabrice is married to Isabelle and they have three lovely daughters who love to change destination every 2/3 days during their long driving summer vacations. 20 years ago, we also wanted to develop our reefer chartering activities in Blue Water Brest, in France. A young lady, named Robyn Briand, came for a quick interview and was employed on 14.12.93. Rumour has it that she was hired because she has three nationalities and consequently speaks better French, English and German than the interviewer. In the beginning, Robyn worked as an assistant in our chartering department, but soon she started showing her very convincing abilities of making shipow24

ners and Blue Water’s charterers reach compromises and come to business. Over the years, Robyn has handled many big clients loading large amounts of frozen fish, chicken, pork, beef and potatoes all over the world and is today Chartering Manager. Robyn is married to Jacques with whom she has a lovely boy. One of Robyn’s favourite hobbies is to test the product her husband sells - red wine.

10 years 1.8.2003, Mogens Møller was chosen as the best candidate to start up Blue Water’s new branch office in Herning – a market requiring thorough knowledge of the local clientele. Mogens possessed this knowledge and he still does. He is a very competent salesman, who is willing to go to great lengths to make the clients feel good and to give them positive experiences at Blue Water. In fact, one would think it was Mogens who invented the “Best in Town” concept. Mogens misses no opportunity to combine social events and business. Numerous customers and Blue Water colleagues have enjoyed a pint of beer and a pizza together before proceeding to the football stadium or ice hockey arena. Mogens is well-liked and he always values an extra effort from his colleagues. Sport fills Mogens life - football in the summer season and ice hockey in the wintertime. He also plays golf and goes skiing with his mates. Family holidays usually include adventures and new destinations. But a weekend or holiday in the family’s summer house in Søndervig (west coast of Jutland) is also an option not to be sneezed at. Here he feels at home. Even though sport fills a lot in Mogens’ life, it is always the home front - Mogens’ wife, Trine, and their daughter, Rebecca – who win the gold medal. On 4.8.2003, Morten Thomsen started as warehouse and logistics trainee at warehouse 1 (our general cargo warehouse) in the port of Esbjerg. During his traineeship, Morten spent most of his time at the quayside. Ships and sirene sound excited him. Having completed his traineeship, Morten did his military service and then returned to Blue Water to handle the many ships for which we are acting as agents. For a number of years, Morten has been among the permanent staff of our RORO terminal in the South Port, but has now become more involved in our many wind turbine shipments. He is a sublime crane operator, whom we can always depend on. Morten is full

of ideas and always willing to lend a helping hand to his colleagues. He has just been elected working environment representative at Esbjerg harbour, a job Morten comes fresh to with new ideas for which he is much valued. Henrik Olsen was already extremely familiar with Blue Water when he was taken on as a warehouseman at Blue Water Copenhagen on 4.8.2003. For a number of years he had been a regular visitor in our house due to his employment as a truck driver for one of our haulage contractors, so he knew what he was letting himself in for. Today, Henrik is in charge of our terminal and warehouse in Copenhagen. Henrik has been on an interesting tour with Blue Water. In the beginning, his job was concentrated on ordinary terminal operation. Later on, Henrik took an active share in the establishment of our own distribution department in Copenhagen before this activity was eventually outsourced. However, Henrik was not allowed to meander around at his warehouse. Instead, together with Claus Gutfeld and our IT department, he was appointed coordinator for the upgrade of procedures at the warehouse, which changed from “ordinary” pick & pack to having a full scanning system implemented for the Pick & Pack segment. Henrik is very popular among his colleagues, and especially when it has been snowing heavily, Those days, he arrives at 4 o’clock in the morning to remove the snow from the parking area before his colleagues turn up. Henrik’s favourite leisure time activity is motocross, which is often quite apparent when he comes in Monday morning looking half dead. And this is on a good Monday, when the weekend’s hardship has not resulted in broken bones. Richard Gardiner joined our Aberdeen office on 18.8.2003, from a chemical manufacturing company called Clariant. Richard was already familiar with the transport business from previous jobs with LEP and Circle Freight. Richard’s knowledge of the customs tariff is extensive and clients regularly test him on it. We are sure he takes it home and reads it sometimes, but this has never been proven. Richard is keen on the odd glass of red wine, but not at work obviously! He likes to eat healthily with couscous being a particular favourite of his, but can be tempted when people bring cakes into the office. He used to spend many hours at home tinkering with his PC until recently getting himself a laptop, which we think he has so far been able to leave alone. Richard used to spend a lot of time play-

Jubilees ing online chess, where he played to a very high standard. He also likes a bit of rock music, and to listen to Radio 6 Music on his DAB radio. Recently, he has given up smoking, having done so since he was at school. A major feat indeed and we wish him every success in keeping it up. We are just wondering if we can claim this as a success of our ISO 14001! Mette Lindhardt Sørensen started as a trainee in Blue Water’s airfreight department in Aalborg on 1.8.2003. Mette is still part of the airfreight team and a very important asset for Blue Water – professionally as well as socially. Mette grew up in the small town of Suldrup in the North of Jutland and now lives in Frejlev. Due to her great commitment and knowledge of the business, she has contributed greatly to the growth we have seen, and today the airfreight department has a staff of 8. Flexible, team player, calm, knowledgeable, positive and professional are qualifications which have made Mette very popular with the customers, business connections and among her colleagues. In addition, for a number of years Mette has been working in-house two days a week at one of our good clients and she has also become a certified freight forwarder. In her free time, Mette is also very active. Volleyball in particular has been her great interest for many years, but she also enjoys indoor cycling with her colleagues – and she never declines an invitation to a party. In the spring, Mette and her fiancé, Michael, experienced the great happiness of becoming parents to a baby boy. Jesper Lisby started as a trainee with Blue Water Copenhagen on 1.8.2003. Having completed his apprenticeship, in the road transport department among other departments, Jesper’s dearest wish was a posting abroad. He had almost finished packing his suitcase ready for departure to Blue Water New York when Ida suddenly appeared on the scene. Jesper saw no other alternative than to marry her in great haste so that she could come with him to New York. It was all or nothing. (We shall not forget to mention that the two of them are still together and they have a little boy). It is characteristical for Jesper that everything is going with a swing. After two years in the USA, Jesper returned to our sea freight department in Copenhagen. Next stop was the key account department, where he was in-

volved in projects for FLSmidth among other projects. In recent years, Jesper has formed part of our sales team and been responsible for business development of the traffic between the Nordic countries and USA. Jesper is very popular with his colleagues, always wisecracking and a frequent participant in our social events. On 18.8, René Bonde Jensen celebra-ted his 10th anniversary with Blue Water Copenhagen. René was originally engaged as a warehouseman at the terminal in Vallensbæk. When our new office and warehouse facilities in Greve were finished about nine years ago, René followed. Having concentrated his efforts on terminal activities, René now became involved in logistics development and is now solely involved in activities related to Blue Water’s logistics clients. René is an outdoor person who spends most of his leisure time in his sailing boat around Holbæk port together with his family. Fortunately René has taken a fancy to sailing and not motoring as he has a reputation for being a road hog. René always has an answer on hand and is well-liked by everybody. On 1.9, Lars Højen Christensen will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water Herning. Lars joined our team at day one, when the Herning office opened, and has contributed his share to the success of the office from the tentative beginning with only 2 colleagues to the present 19 staff members. Lars has always been part of the department servicing the local customers, apart from a short detour to Blue Water Dublin. Due to a high level of service, he has maintained our client relations, many of which date back to the very beginning. Lars is the “Pavarotti” of the office and on a regular basis, he bursts into (loud) song. He has a dry sense of humour, and many people regard him as Jutland – not Danish - champion in making jokes. Lars is also, with his giant wardrobe, the self-elected fashion guru of the office. He buys his shoes online and they are delivered to the office at intervals of approx one pair a week. Still looking for the one and only, Lars is a regular at single parties at Nr. Onsild Kro (local inn). In his spare time, Lars is an energetic indoor cyclist and he also follows the ice hockey teams Herning Blue Fax and FC Midtjylland closely. On 1.11, Ole Haahr will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water. Ole’s first job in our company was as manager of the local customers and airfreight department in Esbjerg. A cou-

ple of years later, Ole moved to Billund to be in charge of the airfreight activities in Billund and Esbjerg. Ole is very committed and visionary when it comes to development of the airfreight activities in the entire organisation, and he spends a lot of time toptuning our systems, partners and new markets. Bureaucracy and stupid rules are not accepted without a struggle and consequently, Ole engages himself into committees with power to influence the decisions. Ole’s colleagues call him a true company man. He knows how to motivate and encourage his staff, and Ole always concentrates on the well-being and satisfaction of his clients. His door is always open and it is important for him that the young people receive a good education and training based on the “freedom with responsibility” principle. We all know that Ole talks a lot, tells many stories and grumbles about everyday problems, but we all just let it in one ear and out the other. Ole is married to Eyrún and they have two teenage sons, Johan and Steffan, who are no doubt forced to play volleyball by their father. Ole and Eyrún have taken over the family farm in Hodde so Ole has plenty of opportunities to live out his farmer’s dreams. Taking an active share in the farm work, Ole sometimes looks a bit exhausted when he meets at the office. Apart from his family, Ole’s great passion is brewing. He is co-founder of a small brewery called Esbjerg Micro Bryggeri, making fantastic beer – to the great pleasure of his colleagues when there is a company party. On 1.11, Priscilla Souza Andreatta from Blue Water Shipping, São Paulo will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with Blue Water. Before joining our company, Priscilla worked as a secretary for one of our partners in Brazil. Priscilla joined our office in São Paulo almost from the very start and has since then worked her way from a start in operations of reefer containers all the way up to being General Manager of our São Paulo office primarily dealing with our reefer activities in Brazil - and other South American countries. Priscilla is a thoughtful, fair, hardworking manager always sharing her knowledge with and encouraging her colleagues. She is known to be the last one to give up a fight - maybe that is why she has been in Blue Water for 10 years now! Priscilla got married last year to her boyfriend, Dennis Andreatta, and loves decorating boxes/cartons with fine papers and building jewellery boxes as a hobby. 25

Staff redeployment On 27.5, Line Beck from Blue Water Hirtshals moved to Copenhagen to become part of our airfreight/courier team on Sealand. On 1.6, Katrine Børre was transferred from our office Copenhagen to a job as freight forwarder at the Oslo office. On 1.6, Hans Christian Mathiassen from Blue Water Sisimiut, Greenland was transferred from the warehouse to an administrative position. He will, however, still be involved in certain activities in the warehouse. As from 1.6., Jacob Kjærgaard is appointed Head of Sales and Development for Ports Service and Wind Logistics. As manager for these activities, Jacob is responsible for sales and development of wind projects in Northern Europe as well as wind-related activities in the port of Esbjerg. In addition, Jacob will form part of the future joint global sales structure, with oil & energy and industrial projects, as responsible for the wind section.

As from 1.7, Jesper Nielsen has been transferred to a cross-organisational position as Business Development Manager for the Nordic countries reporting to Jesper Hetebrügge Hansen. Jesper Nielsen, who was originally responsible for the airfreight activities in Copenhagen, will remain based at the Copenhagen office, but naturally his new position will involve some travelling. After 6 months in Australia, assisting with the start-up of our office in Sydney, Kenneth Falkesgaard Hansen returned to his old department (deep sea) in Esbjerg on 1.7. On 1.8, Kasper Steen Nielsen from Blue Water Aarhus made for New York to become part of our export team. After two years at Blue Water’s Greenland offices, Kasper Junge joined our project department in Esbjerg on 19.8. As from 1.9., Michael Møller from Blue Water Aarhus will be taking up new challenges in our organisation as he will be transferred to a newly established position as Key Account Manager for parcel customers and other major customers. Michael’s responsibilities will include servicing and further development of Blue Water’s relations and business with Bestseller, Færch Plast and

Ecco Sko in close cooperation with Michael Poder. Morten Iversen, who completed his apprenticeship in our department for oil, gas and industrial projects in Esbjerg on 31.8, will be transferred to Blue Water Stavanger in the near future. Kenneth Skovbjerg Petersen/Blue Water Aalborg, formerly employed at Blue Water Greenland, is back in Nuuk as maternity cover for Lisbeth Borg. The Management has decided to strengthen the organisation by hiring a new Management Assistant – Kasper Nielsen from Blue Water Copenhagen. He will support and administer important and cross-disciplinary assignments and projects for the Management in cooperation with the present Management Assistant, Per Holm Nørregaard. Kasper is 29 years old, and has been employed with Blue Water since 2005 where he started as trainee in Copenhagen. Today, he is Project Manager and as of 1 October, he begins his new role as Management Assistant. In the future, Per Holm Nørregaard will attend to larger strategic projects.

Further training for our trainees Blue Water works hard to give our trainees the best education in an interesting industry through challenges and responsibility. As a new initiative, we require that the trainees pass an academic exam while they simultaneously have their normal schooling. The freight forwarders attend a course in transport law and the course for economic trainees is business economics. In April-May, we have accomplished a course in transport law for all 1.year freight forwarding trainees in Denmark. We established the perfect procedure for the trainees in close cooperation with Erhvervs Akademi Esbjerg. Bright minds should be taught by a com-

petent teacher and who could do that better than our former Director, Jørn Bøllund who is an experienced gentleman within this area who enjoy being with the young people. Jørn spiced up the theory with relevant Blue Water cases from the

The champions Seven busses filled with football supporters from the Esbjerg office travelled to Copenhagen to see the local football team in the Danish Cup Final – and it was a triumph. Esbjerg won the game and took home the trophy. “We are crazy for sports in Blue Water, and it was delightful to see Esbjerg win the Danish Cup final. We are proud to support and sponsor local sports athletes in achieving great results”, says Kurt Skov. Another good result came when Blue Water sponsored triathlete Camilla Pedersen from Esbjerg won the European

Championship in triathlon with a victory in Challenge Barcelona earlier this year.

Good ideas from students Blue Water was the case company in this year’s Aarhus Case Competition (ACC) which was held at the University of Aarhus. The competition is held each year and attracts business students from the Nordic countries who compete on solving relevant and realistic issues that the case company is facing. “All the teams, which competed in the final, presented some interesting views on how we can develop our General Cargo activities in Scandinavia, a part of our strategy. At the same time, we had the opportunity to create awareness of Blue Water and hopefully inspire some of the students and open their minds for a pos-

sible future in the shipping industry. We learned a great deal by being there and it was a pleasure to see how committed the students were”, said Carsten Eskildsen, Blue Water’s General Cargo division.

10 year anniversary for Blue Water Herning On 1 September, Blue Water Herning celebrates its 10 year anniversary. Today, the office employs 20 people in contrast to the beginning, when there were three employees. “The office started out as a ‘service booking office’ where companies from the middle and western parts of Denmark could access Blue Water’s many different traffics and activities. The ‘Freight Department’ – as we call it internally – is still a big part of the activities for this office. Since then activities have expanded to responsibility for Blue Water’s traffics

to/from the Baltic States, Ukraine, Russia and lately Turkey”, says Fin Hüttel, General Manager in Herning. In addition, the office has a ‘special department’ which handles transports for large clients which have the need for specific transport solutions. Also, the department for packages and courier shipments gradually increases in relation to the office activities. Out of the original three employees, two of them are still ‘hanging in there’ meaning that Lars Højen Christensen and Mogens Møller also celebrate their 10-year- anniversary.

Courses for dangerous goods The ADR-convention – which regulates international road transport of dangerous goods in the EU and countries nearby – is updated every second year. The new ADR2013 is effective as of 1 July. Therefore, from March to July, Blue Water’s Danish freight forwarders and terminal staff have been educated and updated 28

in the new regulations. Right now, all our offices abroad carry out a similar educational process and the deadline for completion is 1 January 2014. This autumn, a corresponding IMDG course will be carried out for the employees who are involved in dangerous goods transports by sea.

Visit from Denmark’s Minister for Finance Denmark’s Minister for Finance Bjarne Corydon (right) visited Blue Water’s headquarters in Esbjerg where he met Kim Hedegaard Sørensen and Kurt Skov. It was a great and positive meeting and Corydon – who is one of the most important politicians in Denmark – gained an insight and showed a personal interest in Blue Water and the transport business. During the tour of the company the minister - who is very interested in football - had a chance to meet a few Blue Water employees including John Lauridsen – a former player for the Danish national team.

BWS and SBM to the top together Joey Schouren of Blue Water Amsterdam and Remco Stok from SBM Schiedam went biking in May. Their trip went up the high mountain pass Gavia which was removed from the route in this year’s edition of the Giro d’ Italia due to bad weather. The two mountain riders braved the weather and climbed the mountain. They had this picture taken on their way up there. Joey and Remco work closely together on a daily basis in connection with the four FPSOs being handled by Blue Water at the moment.
