elcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We are thrilled and honored to have you join us. Our Back-to-School Guide
ensures you're well-prepared for a fantastic year. This guide will provide crucial information about our district, including detailed drop-off and pickup maps, the full school calendar, registration processes, meet-the-teacher events, athletic team schedules, and much more.
This year, our facilities started to see significant enhancements as part of our district-wide upgrades, funded by the recent bond program. These upgrades demonstrate our community's commitment to the educational environment for both current and future generations, affirming Brownwood as their 'District of Choice.'
Drawing from my own three-decade journey in education and as a parent of three students currently in the district, I understand the importance of our mission.
On behalf of the Brownwood Board of Trustees, I am confident this will be an exceptional school year. We're here to assist you, so please don't hesitate to reach out. Together, we will positively impact our students' lives. Go Lions and Lady Lions!

With exciting field trips and engaging projects, Camp Adventure: Roar on the Shore allowed students to dig deeper into academic subjects and explore their strengths by engaging in experiences designed to help them learn.
An average of 275 students attended the program during June and July 2024. Approximately 15,000 meals (breakfast, lunch, and snacks) were served and students traversed around 4500 total miles on the bus. With 20 total days amounting to 7200 minutes of extra fun and learning per child that attended, we’re proud of their accomplishments and can’t wait toseethemshineduringtheschoolyear!
BISD plans to offer the summer learning program again during the summer of 2025. More information including registration will be posted when available at https://www.brownwoodisd.org/summerlearning
BISD’s Counseling and Mental Health team works in-depth with students, teachers, and families in order to grow the program and its community. “Our hope is that our families, all teachers, all students, and the community at large will benefit from support and education,” said Danielle Howard (M.Ed., LPC-S, RPT-S), the Mental Health Coordinator for Brownwood ISD.
“Celebration of diversity, knowledge of skill, and an intentional culture of welcome inclusion create positive growth and change for all, including the families and students.” The award-winning counseling program continues to place mental health, counseling, and behavioral management services as a priority within the district. For the latest information regarding the social, emotional, and mental health needs of your students please check out the Mental Health page on the website, and like the Facebook pages, Brownwood ISD Counselor Corner for grades PK-8th, and Brownwood High School Counselors for grades 9-12.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your child's mental or emotional health, please don't hesitate to contact the school counselor at your school, or reach out to our district Mental Health Coordinator, Danielle Howard.

Brownwood ISD offers an 18+ program which provides an opportunity for students still enrolled in public school and who have completed all state course requirements to set attainable goals and begin building the foundation for achieving both short- and long-term goals for greater independence. These goals work best as a collaborative effort of students, teachers, parents, and the community. Currently, BISD has established two work sites within Brown County, and as the program grows, we hope to enlarge the 18+ work sites to allow more opportunities for hands-on experience. The 18+ program offers the opportunity to build critical vocational skills, home living skills, lifelong learning skills, along with community and leisure skills while still in school for our students, aged 18-22, with mild to moderate intellectual and/or physical disabilities. If you have any questions or would like to sponsor a job site for our 18+ program, please contact the Brownwood ISD Special Education Department at 325-643-5644.

“Every project that was passed under the bond is intended to give our students a safer environment to both learn and exercise their talents,” said Tammy Gray, Brownwood ISD Bond Program Manager. “The bond was passed with ‘concept’ ideas. From that point, there is a lot of collaboration, planning, and design that must take place before a project is ready to be constructed.
The more complex the project, the longer that process takes to ensure that Brownwood ISD gets a high-quality facility that meets both current and future needs.” Work began in August 2023 from the recently passed bond for BISD.
The auditorium seating at Coggin Intermediate was replaced and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessibility upgrades were made to the facility. The gym floors were replaced in all four elementary schools. Around 200 security cameras were purchased and placed around all campuses, along with a wide variety of equipment such as portable radios, security film on windows, security fencing, floor mapping, and devices for cross-district communications capabilities.
“The safety and security of our students was our number one priority, sothoseprojectswerestartedimmediatelyafterthebond was passed and will continue as new needs arise,” Gray said. “Ourmindsetgoingintoeachoneoftheseprojectsisthatthenew facility or renovation must last at least twenty-five years and be abletoadapttogrowth.”
Every project in the three-part bond has been started. Each project requires multiple phases of planning and execution. “We wanted to structure the phased execution of all these projects in a way that resulted in the least disruption to our students,” Gray said, “while also ensuring that we are wisely progressing in giving our faithful community partners all the upgrades that were promised, inatimelymanner.”
The first big renovation project was the tennis courts at the high school. They were resurfaced, re-fenced, and new lights were installed overhead. A covered seating area was built for both home and visitor sides. A new concession area and storage are being planned as well. The second large project, renovation of the Snodgrass Indoor Facility (SIF) has begun, and ground has been broken on the indoor Multi-Purpose Activity Center which will be next to the SIF. “The new 100-yard indoor MultiPurpose Activity Center will allow our athletes, band members, cheerleaders, or any other student organization to have a safe and dry place to practice throughout the calendar year,” said Gray. “The facility will also include much-needed storage areas and additional restrooms for our students.”
A third project, updating the baseball and softball stadiums, and the fourth large project of renovating Gordon Wood Stadium, are in the works. At the ball fields, new parking, turf, bleachers, and lighting are scheduled, as well as an updated press box and concession areas. Turf has been replaced at Gordon Wood, new lights installed, and renovations are being completed on the home and visitor side concession areas. Extra seating will be built for the stadium area, as well as a new press box, all with ADA accessibility. If work stays on schedule, the baseball and softball fields will be ready for use by the 2025 season, with Gordon Wood’s updates being completed in stages from the 2025 season onward. A fifth important project, updating the middle school and high school locker rooms, will be a vital undertaking throughout the 2024 and 2025 school years.
“As I investigate more of these areas and watch as demolition occurs, I am further convinced that every one of these projects were not only needed, but critical to our students’ health and safety,” Gray said. “The gym floors are made with a material that is designed to visually improve with wear and has been known to last twenty-five-plus-years with only small maintenance requirements such as repainting lines as needed. Another example is at the ballfields. The bond originally only covered regrading the grass at the baseball field, but instead, through diligent cost control measures, we are able to install turf at both the baseball and softball fields for nearly the same price.” Each project has been analyzed and crafted with intention throughout every phase. Careful planning has made these projects possible. “We know the community entrusted a great deal of money to our district and we plan for it to be an investment they can be proud of,” Gray said. “I firmly believe every one of these facilities will support not only this generation but many others to come.”

Without fail, the top priority of BISD is the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. To that end, BISD continually reviews and updates its Emergency Operations Plan, including comprehensive threat assessments and analysis.
BISD works in cooperation with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies in drilling for various emergency scenarios and provides our faculty and staff with emergency training appropriate for their campuses.
Our SchoolMessenger system is a communication tool for keeping parents and the community informed of necessary information, allowing BISD almost instantaneous contact with families in an emergency. (https://www.brownwoodisd.org/schoolmessenger)
School Resource Officers (SRO) are assigned to the district for added campus security and safety through our SRO Program provided by a partnership between the City of Brownwood, the Brownwood Police Department, and the Brownwood Independent School District. Campus Guardians are present on each campus. Guardians possess firearms and are trained to aid in effective responses to any emergency on District property.
