Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to welcome you to the Mrnak Ranch 59th Annual Production Sale!
We take pride in being rooted into the Hereford business. More than a business it has been a lifestyle that has taken us down a path of gratefulness for all the friends and customers that we have been fortunate to meet over the years. Hereford cattle are the foundation of what we build off every day. We are determined and focused, with the high goals we set for our cattle, to produce the most sought-after Hereford genetics. Our cow herd can still be traced back to genetics that our grandparents Jim and Marlene purchased or raised generations ago. Being able to carry the torch at the same homestead that was founded in 1906 comes with excitement that keeps us motivated every day.
Our fundamental job is to ensure our customers that the seedstock produced by us is backed by the best Hereford cow base anywhere in the country. Over the last few years, we have spent countless hours evaluating our cows to ensure that only the cows earning their keep stay in production here. We do not sort our cows on paper. Our cows must wean a big calf, breed back in a timely manner, while keeping her condition. Along with maintaining an efficient cow we have been searching for new herd sires that not only excel in performance and maternal strengths but also keep in mind carcass merit. We still believe, and know, that when it comes to feeding cattle that efficiency, time on feed, and conversion are what make us money, but enhancing carcass quality is where the bonus comes from in feeding cattle.
This year’s offering of bulls had a very good growing season. When we sorted bulls in May for summer grass, we were uncertain if we would have enough forage to keep the bulls content. By the time we hauled the bulls to grass in late May the grass greened up and kept up with the bulls all summer long. Throughout the summer we are constantly evaluating the bulls to ensure only the ones with the best structure, disposition, performance and phenotype make it to sale day. We truly feel that from the first to the last bull in the ring there are outstanding options for both the commercial cow/calf producers and the premier Hereford seedstock operations.
The bulls that are purchased on sale day are welcome to remain at the ranch until Mother Nature permits delivery closer to breeding season. All bulls will undergo another complete fertility examination before spring delivery, and as always, will be stamped with the Mrnak Guarantee.
If possible, we encourage you to stop at the ranch before the sale to walk through the offering. We’d be delighted to show you the mothers of the bulls and give you a closer look at our cows and operation. You’ll see we sort our cows as strictly as we sort our bulls.
Also, please join us on Monday evening at 5 p.m. for a steak supper and fellowship at the Sweetwater Golf Course.
Thank you for taking the time to review our offering. We look forward to working with you and hope to see you at the sale!
Warm regards,
Brent Mrnak Mrnak Ranch

– What We Do –
This year we were invited to host a stop on the Montana Hereford Association Tour. We would like to thank the MHA and their board of directors for organizing and putting on such a great event. We had a great afternoon showcasing our genetics, program and operation. We appreciate all who attended and want you to know that the coffee is always on so—stop by anytime!
At Mrnak Ranch, we strive to be more than a seedstock operation. We are continually building a diverse farming, ranching, and feeding operation that functions full circle to support each endeavor. Our embryo transfer program helps us ensure consistency in our cows and sale bulls. We carefully select proven cows with key breed characteristics from our program that will play a vital role in the future of Mrnak Genetics.
Beyond our registered Hereford cattle, we manage commercial cows that play a crucial role in our embryo transfer program. This initiative produces F1 Baldie heifers and ranch-raised steers that we raise and finish in our feeding program, providing us with crucial data to allow us to have firsthand knowledge of how our genetics perform efficiently in the feedlot and how the carcasses perform on the rail.
We take pride in finishing cattle from various sources—whether from our customers or those bred right here on the ranch. Our self-sufficiency extends to our feed and cash crops, producing corn, wheat, barley, canola, and alfalfa planted in the spring.
Our dedicated team, whom we consider family, is vital to our success. Our operation does not function without the dedication and efforts of this group.

We had the opportunity to acquire not only 1144J from Iron Lake Ranch and Holden Herefords but her full brother Forward 1056J. When we studied the maternal performance and the pedigree we knew this female was special. She intrigued so much that we partnered on her full brother Forward 1056J as well with Pelton Herefords. The proven horned and polled pedigrees of this mating along with the extremely strong maternal characteristics coupled with the volume, rib shape, and muscle that both of these possess, and 1144J’s flawless udder made this an easy decision. These genetics will have a big impact on our program for years to come.
6476 has found her way to the donor pen the old-fashioned way- through proof of production over 8 years. She is a perfectly balanced female who is correct in her design, big footed, excellent hoof structure, big ribbed, stout hipped, wide pinned, and her udder quality is impeccable. Not always do the EPD profiles translate into the real world, however, in 6476’s case it does. She is a trait leader in CE, and low BW, not to mention has curve bending EPD’s for a 9-year-old cow in maternal excellence. Last year her son sold as lot 1 to Dauer Herefords in Texas and her son sells at lot 6 this year.

— Elite Yearling Bulls —
While we typically sell age-advantaged bulls calving primarily in April, after purchasing a semen package on Stanfield 3122L we set up a select group of cows to AI and calve in March. This group represents the future of Mrnak Hereford Ranch and was very well received during the Montana Hereford Tour in September. From these cows we used primarily 1056J—full sib to our reference donor 1144J— and Stanfield 3122L. Stanfield was the high-selling bull in the Churchill Cattle Co. 2024 bull sale at $130,000.
The Stanfield calves have exceeded all expectations. They came easy, hit the ground running, and weaned off as the heaviest calves we have ever raised at the ranch. This is the sire group we have been searching for—stout, structurally sound, full of eye appeal, and backed by phenomenal cows.
Because these bulls are a little older and truly unique, we felt our customers—and the breed—shouldn’t have to wait another year to utilize these genetics. These bulls will be offered in three exclusive picks: you select one, and the other remains at the ranch to be used heavily in our program. Study these bulls at the ranch or on sale day—opportunities like this do not come along often. These are the kind of bulls that leave a lasting legacy.

— Charolais Offering —
In the last few years, we have included a page introducing our Charolais program. In the growth of this program, we have been marketing our Charolais bulls to progressive cattleman across the country. These bulls have gone to work from North Dakota to Arzona and thrived! With the retention of all of our replacements and an extensive ET program we will start offering our yearling bulls to the broader public. Of course, you are welcome to stop by anytime to look at the bulls but, our offering of yearling Charolais bulls will begin April 1, 2026.
Our Charolais cross calves continue to meet or exceed the benchmarks along the production cycle: They calved easy; they weaned heavy; and once off the cow continued to gain. When we harvest those cattle out of our home raised females at the ranch the cattle exceeded in all the factors we believe in when feeding cattle: time on feed, conversion and health. The hybrid vigor of this cross complements the Hereford-Angus cross perfectly.
As in the Hereford breed, we believe great bulls are backed by great cows. We believe we have some of the best cows in the Charolais breed producing some great Charolais bulls. Either before or after the sale we invite you to stop by the ranch to view these great females and the sons they produced for our Private Treaty Charolais bull offering beginning April 1, 2026.
