Reflection Essay
Upon completing my first semester of college, I would say that the moment I will most likely remember most is the preparation of my Portfolio for my Africana Studies 115 APPR University Writing class. While working on the assignment, reviewing and organizing each iteration along with the revisions to each and every exercise within the selected progression, I noticed the high level of critical thinking that I applied to my work throughout the semester. This level of critical thinking was something I could not see myself doing prior to my college experience. Another highlighted memory will be the fact that I developed a greater degree of camaraderie with my classmates. Usually, interactions with other individuals in a class, with whom I am not well acquainted, produced very poor results. As a result of AFRS115, I learned how to budget my time, focus my energy, utilize my creativity and work in collaboration with others to successfully complete an assignment. An excellent example of which is my most recent group project available for viewing at the following link: https://afrscsunstudents.wixsite.com /racialinjustice Originally, upon entering this class, I assumed it would be a relatively easy class. My assumption was based on the fact that I had always done well in previous writing classes, was highly successful in them and did not struggle. However, as the weeks progressed, I soon realized that this class would prove to be the greatest adversity than any other class

I didn't know what to expect on my first day of English 202. I had no idea what English 202 meant or what exactly I would be doing in the class. I quickly learned and began to understand what being an English major was all about. In my fall English 202 class, I did well with inward–looking theories and discovered that was my preferred way to approach a literary text, though I still enjoyed some out looking theories like psychoanalytic. Going forward in my major I would like to work on my time management skills and applying the notes from the professor and TA to my paper. Thetheory that I found worked for me the best was the discourse analysis theory. When I first heard about this theory I didn't think it would work for me because I never felt like grammar was one of my strong suits. Though when we started learning more about the theory I began to understand it more. The part of the theory I enjoyed the most was that I didn't have to look for outside sources when reading the poem. All of the information I needed was already there in the text. Some people find this constraining, but I like that the only thing we have to work with is the poem itself. Another thing I enjoyed about this theory was that it felt like the information you were using was more concrete because it was right there in the poem. What I mean by that is with outward theories it felt like everything was very abstract and up for interpretation. I like that with inward theories everything is a Get more content

Reflection In Sociology
After taking a Sociology class this semester, I learned a lot of about the different topics and concepts in this course and how they are related to our society, which has changed my perspective as well as how I view and see the meaning of my surroundings. I would also think about what would be going on inside a specific person's mind and how he or she was feeling. Afterlearning about different concepts in Sociology and watching the videos presented in class, it became easier to just stop and think about a person, wonder who that person was, and be curious about that person's life story. We pass by people all the time every day, but we never really know what is going on with them and don't really think about it or care since it is so...show more content...
It is crazy to hear that the top richest people in this world have the same wealth as the poorest 3 billion people in this world. Even though rich countries are giving aid to poor countries, the huge gap difference between their wealth is due to large corporations form rich countries taking more money from poor countries, and this really explains a lot why poor country never have the chance to actually thrive. The thought that poor people should be able to come up from where they came from, which is a thought in many people's minds, especially those who have money, isn't all that simple.
The activity we had to do for homework with the Sorting People stood out to me as well and made me realize that classifying and judging people based on how they look and guess what their races and ethnicities are solely by appearance, is not the right way to categorize people. I learned that the majority of my guesses were wrong, and after reading about the people's mini bios, I then realized that people's races and ethnicities are not determined by their physical looks. Appearance doesn't always tell you about someone's ancestry or self–identities of themselves. "Race" cannot tell where someone came from, what they are good at, or even how their personalities and behaviors are like. It was also very interesting to learn about different cultures, especially during the movies we watched in class about adoption. It shows how culture along with the beliefs, Get more content

During the course first semester of freshman year in English 101, I have learned multiple foundations when it comes to writing. When I first entered college, the only knowledge when it comes to writing was the basic of gathering a bunch of information on a piece of paper. Knowing that writing wasn't my strongest suit throughout my academic career, it was challenging for me. Going through my first college class, which was English 101, I realized that writing is more than just putting words on paper. I have learned the purpose of writing and the structure to make a solid concrete essay such as to create the thesis statement to acknowledge what the reader is going to read and a technique to help edit and limit word, together with discovering a connection with myself in writing.
An element that I learned which was important to an essay was the thesis statement. Over the course of the semester, I wrote various types of essays which the thesis is the main important sentence of the essay. I learned that there was more into the thesis. It grabs the reader's attention to grasp the idea of what the essay is about and its tone. The process of constructing a solid thesis to complement the essay was a challenge to me. For example, in writing project two, for the rhetorical analysis, I could not create a thesis to grab the reader's attention about the comparison two articles. This writing was a comparison between the two articles with the strategies that the author uses to connect with

Inclusion: Means the action or state of including or of included within a group or structure. In education this means everyone has the same opportunity, there should be no boundaries to stop a learner reaching their full potential in the learning enviroment. (wikipedia) Ann Gravells (2014) states: 'You are not teaching your subject to a group of learners who are all the same, but to a group of Individuals with different experiences, abilities and needs, which should be recognised and respected'.
When teaching all of my students are made to feel important, i speak to them directly, using eye contact and on first name terms. Throughout the course i like to test their knowledge, their preferred learning styles and to assess if any additional support is required (on a daily basis). I can then adjust my sessions to meet each individual learners needs.
1.2 The differentlearning styles include, visual, aural, read/write and kinaesthetic.'known as the acroym (V.A.R.K)
The four learning styles are really importantin my teaching sessions because Media makeup is a hands on profession. In my media makeup sessions I seem to use visual, read/write and hands on learning styles the most, this suits most of my students but not all. This is why I have to have open opportunities to suit all learners, this way they can reach their full potential when learning. I evaluate my lessons by asking my students how they feel the lesson is going and evaluating this as we go along. I also

I have learned a great deal of materials in Dr. Wise AAPS. class, we readied the county and wrote reflections about topics pertaining to literature, technology, and literacies. This allowed me to become a better critical thinker because her course requires us to analyze and reflect on yourself as individuals more than just giving a brief summary on our paper .After taking this course for about 6 months, I have realized that it had made a significant change in my life that i need as a african american man. When I am attending in classes such as political science or nutrition, not only am I understanding the readings better than before but I am also analyzing the information, forming my own thoughts (at times I even present my ideas to the members in class), and incorporating ideas from the past to increase the literacy towards the topic that I would've given up in the past. I value the qualities the AAPS course gifts to the students because it has improved me as a student, learner, and as an active member in the society we live in today. The amount of things I have learned in this class is immense and to briefly summarize what I learned in class, I would have to say that I learned how to learn multiple of ways from ms wise class. I have a better understanding on how various ways of in taking notes information that lead to various versions of understanding. For example, I when we use the skeleton outline to take notes, I gain effective strategy to contain information that

During the past eight weeks of this course I enjoyed learning so many new writing strategies that I did not know before. This course has been a very intense and challenging class, with much knowledgeable information that I have gained in these short eight weeks. I will explain the things I have learned over this time such as, how I selected a topic for my persuasive essay, some key concepts I have learned from my research, my peer review feedback evaluations, how my classmates helped me understand points of view, and how my classmates provided me with additional writing strategies. When trying to find a good topic for my persuasive essay it seemed to be a bit of a struggle. I chose teen pregnancy and to convince my readers the cons of early...show more content...
I remember reading Stacey's paper about internet pirating, and the harm it is causing to people. When I first started to read her paper, I knew from the start it defiantly wasn't a topic I was interested in. As I continued to read I starting to instantly get a feel for her standpoint and immediately was interested. With the great supporting evidence she had obtained it really made me more interested in her point of view. Reading other classmates essays really gave me and opening eye to the different thinking we all have as individuals. We do not all think as one, we all have our own

As a 14 year old reader and writer, I never saw a true significance in the subjects. I would often become flustered and overwhelmed when forced to do a writing assignment. I just couldn't understand why I was being forced to perform a task that, in my opinion, made no impact on the world around me. However, my Sophomore year, my perception began to change. I had begun taking an Advanced Placement World History class. This class made a big impact on me as a reader and a writer for many reasons. Although, I can't recall every lesson I was taught during the course of this class, but what I can recall is a much more impactful lesson. The lesson that continues to shape how I view literacy and the modern world. The first lesson taught to us in AP World was about the first civilizations known to man. This was a rather short lesson because historians weren't able to gather much information on these types of civilizations. These prehistoric places, most of the time, didn't have a well–established written language. They didn't have books, or records, or anything for modern man to read. The main way historians were able to find any information on these early civilizations was to look at remains of living arrangements, fossils, and texts written many years after the first communities. I remember sitting in class and wondering why there was so much information about other points in history and hardly any information during this time period. Then, I realized it was because there

Art for me was always more of an aesthetic thing rather than a historic thing. I never truly thought about the meaning in art. It was not until I took this class, art history, that I begin not only to critique a work of art but to appreciate a work of art. The Museum of Fine Arts Houston was a great experience and its many exhibits were beautiful and insightful. The amount of different cultures that were being exhibited in this museum was astonishing. I was able to relate many exhibits with what I have learned in class. I chose to critique three artworks that I found very interesting and beautiful. All of them are beautiful sculptures from similar backgrounds, that everyone should get to see at least once in their lifetime. The first artwork was a beautiful sarcophagus, the Sarcophagus of a Youth that is dated to be from the 5th–4th century B.C., created by the artist Phoenician. This sarcophagus was made for the burial of nobility. The sarcophagus was made from Parian marble with a form that was a blend of two cultures; the shape of an Egyptian sarcophagus with a classically carved Greek face. The Greek face has stoicism, meaning repression of emotion. The sarcophagus weighs more than two thousand pounds and is seven feet tall. The sarcophagus is in perfect condition for being for being from the 5th–4th century B.C.; it is one of the two Phoenician sarcophagi in the United States. Sarcophagus of a Youth is an extraordinarysculpture who's smooth marble will make you want
