In times, we often see things, but we don't really capture what is beyond it. In some cases, there are people who are artistic and are prone to see what other's cannot visualize. Every individual has a talent which can be expressed and processed differently. Something you see can mean entirely divergent things to someone else;for example, some may see thing's that may seem simple, but in the eyes of an artist, it can be perceived with a whole new definition, dimension, and a potentially new discovery. Each week I would strive to get the best comment of criticism and the best photo of the week. Everyday we were intellectually taught about the different principles of photography; for me it wasn't a hassle to learn it; it was more of an excitement a new adventure.

As I became increasingly fascinated with photography, a burning passion became to increase inside of me. The need to take photographs was captivating; not only was it for a grade, but an escape I used to drown my feelings. Photography was now becoming a way of expressing myself. Excitement rushed through my veins as the teacher would announce my name for the best photo of the week; an unforgettable feeling that would fulfill my ambition and made me feel virtuoso. After the end of the first semester, I began to feel as if a transformation begun inside of me. A transformation that began as a passion and turned into an obsession. Everywhere I saw I could see all the plain and ordinary things or objects of everyday life, but suddenly they became a whole new world; a spellbinding sensation that would make me fathom the double meaning of life. For example, hands are not much of importance to a person with no artistic view, but a photographer may view hands as aging, a sign of unity, caring, loving, or cry for help.

In the United States today, technology is all–important to a great deal of the population, whether it is a means of communication or an aid for national security. Technological devices and terminology are ubiquitous and have become a part of everyday life. On the road, many drivers can be found talking and chattering away into their cell phones. Photography and the Photograph Through the Ages:

Since the beginning of time, humans have developed ways of representing the world around them. Cavemen depicted mammoths, humans, and other objects seen in nature on cave walls. A step forward from just sketching reality came in Aristotle's time with the camera obscura (1). A camera obscura is a box with a small hole that inverts an image of a subject upside down on a screen (2). The image can then be traced, resulting in a much more accurate and detailed representation of the subject than was previously possible (3). Leonardo da Vinci depicted the camera obscura in a manuscript in 1519, showing that it was studied beyond Aristotle's time (4).

Photography's roots lie in the inherent desire for man to accurately capture life in an image. In 1826, photography as we know it emerged when Joseph NicГ©phore Niepce was the first to create a negative image on light sensitive material (5). The negative of the subject replaced the manual labor involved in tracing images with the camera obscura. Niepce continued working on photography with Louis Jacques MandГ© Daguerre, a painter, and began to work on sensitized metallic surfaces (6). Why I Want to Be a Photographer

Photography is the process of taking photographs and printing them out. Mostly used for personal purposes, photography is a common object in our everyday lives. It is used to make memories, track the course of our lives, and simply capture the beauty of and event or object. The typical day of a photographer is quit diverse. In a typical day photographer photographs subjects or news worthy events, using still cameras –such as a family, person, animal, wedding, graduation, birthday, place, or other object. They determine desired images and picture composition, such as when a customer wants blemishes removed. Their cameras need to be adjusted on a regular basis. They are constantly creating artificial lights and backgrounds to reach the desired effect of the customer. If using a camera that contains film they must have the film processed. Hours are spent going through hundreds of photos to select the best photo(s). They also use computer software to adjust and enhance the images. (Institute, Typical Day, 2011)

I chose this career for several reasons. The first, is because my aunt is a photographer. She introduced me tophotography at a young age and I have been interested ever since. At the age of thirteen, I caused myself some jaw trouble through excessive use of paper as a substitute for chewing gum, though I have largely overcome that habit. In prescribing the role of paper, I can be picky – college–ruled, never wide–ruled, because more words fit on the former –but I can also be flexible – using napkins to scribble visual aids during mealtime conversation.

But as significant as what I chose for this photograph is what I did not choose. Fancier objects would have been inappropriate, because ostentatious materialism is meaningless to me. Sure, a few of the habits I have acquired require more expensive materials – programming is difficult to do, and impossible to do usefully, in the absence of a computer; likewise for chess without a board or pieces– but, for the most part, my interests require little more than scribbling equipment. I am a believer in resourcefulness. Do as much as you can with the facilities at your disposal, I say; hence, armed with paper and pens, I can (in theory) keep myself entertained all day. In the mathematical world, greater value is attached to a proof of a difficult theorem if it uses only the most elementary techniques; perhaps my inheritance of this esthetic is reflected in my preference for building a life from the simple tools of paper and pens. In the world we live in today, anyone can pick up a handheld videocamera and record their son's soccer game or daughter's school play, but to really capture the beauty of an event takes true talent. My passion for photography began in High School, from the moment I walked into Photography 1, I was in love. I seemed to have a good eye when it came to landscape and animal photography, after hours of taking photos I would then spend hours in the dark room developing. For me, photography has been no more than just a hobby. I admire all professional photographers, especially those who specialize in newborn photography , because I envy them. What is a photograph? The simplicity of taking a photograph leads many to ponder its artistic value. There is clearly an artistic value to this image – it is taken at the location of a massacre of over 200 members of the Great Sioux Nation. However, did Elliot Erwitt intend a 'deeper meaning' for this photograph? In an interview recorded on his official website, Erwitt declares, "If it turns out to be entertaining what I do, I'm very pleased. But it's not conscious." It seems that Erwitt claims to not possess artistic intent in his photographs. However, it is clear that he simply boasts an unconscious artistic eye. It is obvious that the photograph of this church on hallowed ground falls in the 'deeper meaning' category. The second Elliot Erwitt photo is taken from his official webpage. It too is captured in black and white. The photo, shown in Figure 2 was taken in France and depicts a man and child riding a bicycle down a road lined with trees. This seems to be a 'time capture' photo; this particular event can never be perfectly replicated again. Despite the category in which this photo clearly falls into, it is undoubtedly still art – the setting is too perfect to be unintentional. Sir John Herschel, was the first to use the term photography in 1839, when he managed to fix images using hyposulphite of soda. As I mentioned before that all the references and bibliographies have the same information about how photography was before it got invented and about how did photography started and how it got developed from year to year and from century to century. From that time until today Photography has developed too much and I believe it will keep on developing from day to day and from year to year. Photos bring memories back to life. Each photo tells a different story, sometimes things you don't always like to remember.

The photo that I have chosen is of a young girl in a pretty formal dress. She is holding a packet of Minties, her favourite lollies. Her grandma gave them to her right after she performed in a concert for her dancing school.

Athol Williby School of dance, a place she'd been going to for 3 years, since she was 7 years old. Every Monday her mother would drop her off out the front of the old office building. She'd walk down the laneway round the back, up the old wooden stairs into a change room.

As everyone was arriving the young girls noticed how many people actually went to the dance school. They were shocked; they'd only seen the older girls that gossiped in the change rooms before class.

As the doors opened and everyone moved into the building, a tall lady with red curly hair and a big noise came into view. She was screaming instructions at everyone; they just kept walking through the doors.

The young girls walked into change room 8. It was huge with ballet costumes on hangers. There were lights around the mirrors just like in the movies. The little girls felt very glamorous.

They were told to sit on the ground and wait until Marie, the lady that would be looking after and helping them get into their costumes, came.

The young girls sat and waited patiently, giggling excitedly about which costumes they would get to wear.

All of sudden like a gust of wind the door flung open and in came the screaming lady with red curly hair and a big noise.

All the young girls gasped. Marie as she was called stood over all the girls and looked down on them.

"Why aren't you girls in your costumes yet?"

Everyone looked down, no one said a thing everyone was too scared.

"Well hurry up them, it's those ones on the rack over there"

Everyone rushed over to the rack she had pointed at and started putting on his or her costumes.

"I'll be back in 5 minutes, all of you

War has always been an unfortunate part of our society and civilization. War will sadly and undoubtedly be with us as long as we exist. However, the portrayal of war for many centuries gave a sense of patriotism and romanticism. Then the invention of the camera changed how humanity perceived war in the late to mid 19th century. And all of a sudden, images ofwar became of shear violence and destruction. The violence in these images would play a significant part in the social and political standpoints of war in our nation. During the pre–Civil War era, the technology of photography was rare or still in development. All renderings of war were either in paintings or in literature. They depicted that the future of war would be evil, apocalyptic, and destructive on a massive scale. Mark Twain was one of the writers who discussed this kind of scenario in one of his novels. "'In that explosion all our noble civilization–factories went up in the air and disappeared from the earth...twenty–five thousand men lay dead around us'" (Franklin 814). The images that showed all of the dead and the destruction, no doubt caused people to believe that the rise in industrialism would lead to more mass destruction. Many writers depicted in their novels, landscapes of gray, craters, and death. It was as if these writers were warning us, that if we as a society don't industrialize properly and responsibly, that the future of our planet would be just like the landscape described by these writers. They saw this rise in technology as a doom to civilization. However, the warnings of these writers disgracefully became reality. Much of Europe a few decades later during WW1, had landscapes that were gray, cratered, and full of dead bodies. A great change came during WW1 and WW2. War images were not the only way war was portrayed, but motion pictures also came along. The motion pictures gave a whole new perspective on war to the American people.
