No wonder washer-woman Widow Twankey’s in a lather: all her lazy son Aladdin does is dream of marrying a princess. When a rich, long-lost uncle appears from nowhere in search of an ancient lamp, it seems their fortunes are about to change; but finding the lamp is just the start of a rollercoaster ride with more ups and downs than a car trip through the Peak District. You can expect a magical stage set, popular songs, colourful dance routines and non-stop laughter from our sensational 2021 Christmas pantomime, Aladdin. Accessible Performances
James Holmes (‘Clive’

Relaxed performance: Wednesday 15 December 5.30pm Seeing your first pantomime should be an exciting experience, but for children on the autistic spectrum and people with learning disabilities the shouts, bangs and flashes can be alarming. Additionally, many families with children who express themselves loudly, or get up and move around, find it difficult to attend formal theatre performances. To make the performance more comfortable we will adapt the script, sound, lighting and length of the performance and provide a quiet space where children can relax and unwind if they need a few moments away from the action. Tickets for the relaxed performance are £10 with one essential companion being free of charge. BSL interpreted performance: Tuesday 28 December 5.30pm This performance will be signed by Sarah Cox. OPERA THURSDAY 17 – SATURDAY 19 MARCH
English Touring Opera returns to Buxton with a poetic production of the most popular of operas, and a lively new production of a comic Russian fantasy by Rimsky-Korsakov. THURSDAY 17 & FRIDAY 18 MARCH 7.30PM
La bohème Puccini’s La bohème is a story of young love, starting on Christmas Eve in a Parisian garret. The lovers draw close, but poverty forces them apart in a story told with the most memorable music, from ‘Che gelida manina’ to the shattering brass chords announcing Mimi’s death. ETO’s much-praised production, in period dress and inventive designs, sung in Italian, promises to break every heart and breathe joy into the spirit of everyone who has ever wanted love.
SATURDAY 19 MARCH 7.30PM
The Golden Cockerel The Golden Cockerel was the final - and favourite - opera of Rimsky-Korsakov. A daring satire on the last days of the Romanov empire, and in particular the debacle of the Russo-Japanese War, it is as explosive as it is charming. Led by new ETO Music Director Gerry Cornelius and ETO Director James Conway, with Grant Doyle (most recently ETO’s Macbeth) in the role of the sleepy Emperor Dodon, this should be an evening of fantasy, mischief, and enough musical delight to ice a lemon cake!

Father Brown - The Murderer In The Mirror
based on the classic mysteries by G K Chesterton Mild-mannered priest Father Brown always seems to be in the right place at the right time... if you count always being around when a murder is committed as being in the right place! When a famous actor is found dead just before the opening of his latest West End production, Father Brown – invited to watch the dress rehearsal – sees at once in the shattered dressing room mirror that all is not as it seems. And if all the possible suspects were on stage at the time, watched by Father Brown, who could possibly be the murderer! John Lyons (hugely familiar to audiences from his 17 years as DS George Toolan, David Jason’s sidekick in A Touch of Frost) joins us once again to play Father Brown. Buxton Opera House & Buxton International Festival
Curtain Up, Light the Lights Buxton Opera House and Buxton International Festival are delighted to present their second joint production, the legendary musical Gypsy, after the huge success of A Little Night Music. With bitingly witty lyrics by Stephen Sondheim (West Side Story) and iconic music by Jule Styne this is the perfect summer treat, directed by Paul Kerryson. Gypsy tells the true, humorous and powerful story of the rise to fame of Gypsy Rose Lee, star of 1930s burlesque and her tempestuous relationship with her ambitious mother Rose. Perhaps the best role in any musical, Rose is a force to be reckoned with as she throws all love interest aside pushing her daughters June and Louise to stardom. Truly memorable songs include Let Me Entertain You, Everything’s Coming Up Roses, You Gotta Have a Gimmick and Some People. Not to be missed! Priority booking from: 29 November

SUPPORT US
We feel very lucky to have such a wonderful theatre, but running costs are high and we face the constant challenge of operating a Grade II listed building with all its beautiful but difficult quirks. In 2019/20 it cost well over £1 million just to keep our doors open. High Peak Theatre Trust is a registered charity, we earn 34% of our income from the sale of tickets, but the remainder has to be found from other sources. A grant from High Peak Borough Council helps, but we also rely on the support of individuals, corporate sponsors and generous donors to help us deliver our work. There are many ways you can help: • Add a donation at the checkout • Make a regular or one-off donation • Name a Seat • Cavendish Business Club • Sponsor an event • Leave a legacy in your will • Join our Giant Cash Bonanza Lottery • Volunteer
DONATIONS
There are different ways to make a donation, you can donate at the checkout when you buy tickets for an event, set up a regular donation or just pop some change in the donation box in the foyer. We have over 400 supporters who make a regular donation, which totals nearly £33,000 a year. The average is just £5 per donor, per month – a lot of small gifts really do make a big difference. Don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation if you can!
NAME A SEAT

All subscriptions paid by you will be donated solely for the benefit of the Opera House and the Arts Centre, after deduction of money for prizes and reasonable expenses of administering the lottery.
FUNDRAISING FRIENDS
The Fundraising Friends of Buxton Opera House sometimes offer tours of the theatre and private group tours can also be arranged, please contact 01298 72050 for more details.

Booking Terms & Conditions TICKET PRICES AND FEES
ACCESS
BOX OFFICE OPENING TIMES
Although the Opera House foyer and Box Office counter are not accessible, there is wheelchair access to the Box Office side door in Water Street, where there is an intercom system.
Our Box Office sells tickets on behalf of companies that include visiting theatres, concerts, shows, artists and other venues. These clients decide the value of the tickets and the money collected from the sale of tickets is passed on accordingly. The advertised price of a ticket is the price that you pay; all ticket prices include any taxes, levies and booking fees. The Opera House Box Office opening hours vary depending on performance times, but it is usually open Monday to Saturday: 10am to 6pm (10am to 8pm when there is a performance) and Sunday: 4pm to 8pm (when there is a performance). Buxton Cinema tickets can be purchased or collected from the cinema bar just before the start of the film. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased or collected in advance from the main Opera House box office up to an hour before the start of the film.
REFUNDS AND TICKET EXCHANGE
We are unable to refund the cost of the tickets unless a show is cancelled. Postage charges are non–refundable. We cannot exchange tickets or money for a different event. Where there is more than one performance of an event we can exchange tickets where available. This requires a minimum of 48 hours notice and there is £1.50 administration fee for exchanging tickets. We offer optional refund protection at the point of sale through a company called Booking Protect. Please ask the Box Office for more details.
ADMISSION
The management reserves the right to refuse admission and to request any ticket holder to leave our buildings at any time. Latecomers will only be admitted at a suitable point in the performance at the discretion of the management.
CONCESSIONS
On many events we offer concessions to seniors, children, students, disabled customers, groups and customers in receipt of some benefits. • Senior: we class anyone aged 60 and over as a Senior concession. • Children: we class anyone aged 15 and under as a child.
• Students: we class anyone in full-time education or with an NUS card as a student. • Groups: we class groups of eight or more people as a group (group size may vary depending on event). Where available, we currently offer concessions for customers in receipt of Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Employment & Support Allowance, Personal Independence Payment and Disability Living Allowance. Proof of eligibility is required.
ESSENTIAL COMPANIONS
If there are discounts available on a performance we can offer a free companion ticket to anyone in receipt of Carer’s Allowance or anyone accompanying an Access Card holder with the +1 symbol. Other essential companions and Derbyshire County Council Carers Emergency Card holders can still receive a 50% discount on full price tickets as long as there are discounts available on a performance. These companion tickets are only available if you are accompanying the person you are caring for and are subject to availability. Proof of eligibility required.

The Opera House is an Edwardian building and only partially accessible to wheelchair users. The level access entrance is 72cms at its narrowest point. Unfortunately the building cannot be accessed by motorised scooters. We have three wheelchair spaces in the Stalls at ground floor level and an accessible toilet. If you will be transferring from a wheelchair to theatre seating please let us know when booking. The Stalls Bar is not accessible, but a member of staff will gladly bring refreshments to your seat.
The Pavilion Arts Centre has good downstairs accessibility including accessible toilets, however the layout of the seating can change for certain shows, please check when booking. For your safety, we advise that you bring a companion if you would have difficulty making your own way out of our buildings in an emergency. We have passive infra–red (PIR) systems in both venues for customers with hearing impairments. Please reserve through the Box Office when you book your tickets (£10 cash deposit required, limited availability). There is an induction loop system at both Box Offices. Assistance dogs are welcome, please let us know if they are accompanying you.
RESTRICTED VIEW
A small number of seats on all levels of the theatre have a restricted view of the stage. We want our customers to have the best experience, so when you book online, an information box appears over these seats to let you know that there may be a restricted or side view, if you would like more information please contact our Box Office before booking. When attending an opera, please note that surtitles may not be visible from some seats, again, please check with the Box Office before booking. Family tickets are not available on restricted view seats.
CHILDREN
We welcome children to the theatre and include a varied programme of children’s shows and events throughout the year. We have a number of booster seats available on first come first served basis. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups should have one adult per 10 children. Children under three and babies less than 12 months are welcome at family shows where the £2.50 discounted price or ‘Babies Free’ is shown. For safety reasons the Upper Circle side seats and boxes in the Opera House are not suitable for families with children under 10 years old. The Studio Theatre seating is not suitable for children under three years old.
