High Peak Theatre Trust gratefully acknowledges the continued support of High Peak Borough Council.

All of us at Buxton Opera House are looking forward to welcoming our valued customers back to the unbeatable experience of live theatre in this most loved and beautiful of theatres. We have followed government guidelines in order to provide a safe environment for our audiences and initially this will be with socially distanced seating and other safety measures to ensure your comfort and safety. The entire theatre industry has been hit hard by such an unprecedented and long closure.

This will be a perfect midsummer treat to bring the Opera House back to life. There are many other treats in our reopening season, and of course Aladdin will at last be flying on his magic carpet back to the Opera House for our much loved pantomime season. Paul Kerryson CEO High Peak Theatre Trust

We’ve introduced a number of Covid safety measures to make you feel safe and comfortable when you come back to our venues. It will take slightly longer to get customers in and out of the building, so please be patient with our staff and volunteers. Can I call into the Box Office?

I know you will have missed your visits to the Opera House during this time, and it is vital that we retain your support as we gradually return to normal levels of business. The best way for you to support us is to buy tickets for our reopening season! If you are unable to buy tickets at this time there are other ways to support Buxton Opera House which include donating on line or buying gift vouchers for future performances. We are reopening on July 8th with a spectacular musical comedy, A Little Night Music which will open the 2021 Buxton International Festival in grand style. Why can’t I sit in my preferred seat?

To minimise the queues at the Box Office we are encouraging customers to book online in advance and to choose the Print at Home option to receive their tickets. If you do come to the Box Office there will be sociallydistanced queuing and a one way system in place. Card transactions are preferred.

For the Buxton International Festival and Gilbert & Sullivan week we will be running socially distanced performances. Please only sit in your allocated seat. The seating in both the theatre and Pavilion Arts Centre has been measured and some seats taken out of use so that we can maintain social distancing and operate an enhanced cleaning regime.

Do I have to sit in a ‘bubble’?

Is there a one way system in place?

We are currently only permitted to plan for socially distanced performances for the Buxton International Festival and Gilbert & Sullivan week. This means that tickets will only be available to purchase in fixed blocks containing one, two, three or four seats and all tickets in the block must be purchased to proceed with your booking for these two events. Please remember that your booking must be made up of only one household or support bubble. We will collect the bookers contact information in line with our Privacy Policy and share your contact details with NHS Test and Trace if required.

What do I do when I arrive?

No, but you’ll notice several new Covid related signs around the building. As we can’t operate a one way system due to the nature of the theatre, please keep left as you move around the building. There is also signage that tells you to how many people are allowed in any room, please check before you go in and maintain social distancing at all times.

Can I nip in to use the toilets?

Unfortunately you won’t be able to access the theatre toilets without going through the entry queuing system. In the toilets we have taken some wash basins and urinals out of use so that we can maintain social distancing.

Please do not come to the Box Office, theatre or cinema if you have any symptoms of Covid-19. We’re asking customers to arrive 20 minutes before the start of the performance so that we can keep any queues moving steadily. You will be asked to stand in a socially distanced queue to get into the theatre and cinema. As the queues are outside, and it’s Buxton, it’s worth checking the weather forecast before you set off. While you’re queuing you’ll see the NHS track and Trace QR code, please scan using your smart phone if you can, alternatively complete the paper version that will be available.

Are you still selling drinks?

Will you check my temperature?

We have introduced an enhanced cleaning regime throughout our venues that includes our daily cleaning, plus regular cleaning of high traffic touchpoints throughout the day and misting of all areas every 28 days.

Please do not come to the theatre or cinema if you have a temperature or any other symptoms of Covid-19. When you come to a performance we’ll scan your temperature before you enter the building using either a floor-standing unit or a volunteer with a portable scanner. These units are extremely accurate and are just one of the ways we are keeping our customers safe. If you register as having a high temperature you and your party will be asked to wait a few minutes before your temperature is taken again. If you still have a high temperature you and your party will not be allowed to enter the building.

Do I have to wear a mask?

Yes, we ask that you wear a face covering at all times when you are in the theatre and cinema except when you’re eating and drinking, unless you are exempt.

HANDS

Although we can’t open our theatre bars during socially distanced performances, we will be offering a reduced bar service on the forecourt. Card transactions are preferred. At Buxton Cinema the main bar will be for customers who have tickets in the Stalls and Bleacher areas and there will be an upstairs table-top bar for Balcony customers.

How often are you cleaning the theatre?

Can I get a refund?

Refunds will not be given unless an event is cancelled. If we re-schedule a performance that you have tickets for and you can’t make the new date we will offer you a refund. We offer optional refund protection at the point of ticket sale through Booking Protect. More information about their Covid policy is available here: https://bookingprotect.com/coronavirus-guidance/ Refund protection cannot be purchased after you’ve bought your tickets.

Will you remind me what to do?

We’ve made a few changes to make sure that you feel safe and comfortable when you visit, but we’ll send you a pre-show email a couple of days before you come to make sure you have all the information you need.
