About the Internship



We provide paid summer internships to teens and young adults from high-poverty neighborhoods in Chicago, IL; Gary, IN; and Newark, NJ.
During their internship, our students learn to conduct communityengaged research and facilitate community wellness programs that reach over 1,500 youth and families across our three cities.
Over 96% of our high school interns are accepted to a 2-year or 4-year college/university.

STEAM SkillBuilding Career Exploration Community Impact
Interns develop their science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics skills by conducting communityengaged research and designing impactful public health solutions.
Through field trips, career chats, and professional coaching, students learn about STEAM careers and pathways that promote community well-being
Working with Butterfly Dreamz staff and partners, our interns facilitate community wellness programs that serve hundreds of local youth and families
Summer Intern Showcase

As a corporate sponsor, you’ll have an opportunity to meet and connect with our student interns as they finalize and present their community-engaged research projects.



Day 1 - VIP Mentor Lunch
Interns meet our VIP sponsors and mentors and learn about their career journeys. After lunch, interns receive feedback on their upcoming showcase presentations.
Day 2 - STEAM Career Day
Interns meet professionals from a variety of STEAM backgrounds and participate in engaging team-building challenges that sharpen their leadership and career skills.

Joy Lindsay founded Butterfly Dreamz, Inc. in 2013 after losing her younger sister, Kimberly Anyce Lindsay, to gun violence. Working with her mother (Heather) and older sister (Tiffany), Joy leads Butterfly Dreamz, Inc. in honor of Kimberly’s legacy of youth leadership and community well-being.
