ORTUNE Life launched this year its sixth Values Advocacy Program and the fifth Antonio L. Cabangon Chua Gintong Parangal Para sa Edukasyon on October 18 at the Department of Education (DepEd) Central Office in Pasig City. Fortune Life celebrated another milestone in the promotion of the values of hard work and discipline among Filipino schoolchildren through the help of DepEd and MaryLindbert International. The advocacy program has distributed over 700,000 workbooks and 150,000 lesson plans to more than 1,000 schools nationwide. For six years now, it has remained true to its goal of inspiring students and teachers through the success story of Fortune Life’s founder, Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua. As a tribute to the ambassador, who passed away on March 11, a minimusical play, titled A Saga of Success: The Life and Times of Antonio Lim Cabangon Chua, was performed by a group of theater actors, led by multi-awarded writer and director Luna Inocian. The play highlighted the accomplishments and milestones in the life of the famous business tycoon who was also a generous philanthropist. promoting the values of hard work and discipline to young Filipino students. Alongside the said launch and tribute was the fifth Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua Gintong Parangal Para sa Edukasyon. The awarding ceremony has been held annually to honor teachers who have shown unparalleled dedication to their profession while supporting Fortune Life’s advocacies. This year’s winners were Windel V. Alvarez of District Alternative Learning System Center in Caramoan, Camarines Sur; Mellany R. Arandia of Comembo Elementary School in Makati City; Cynthia F. Balaguer of Albay Central School in Legazpi City, Albay; Miguel V. Dumas Jr. from the Division Office of Tacloban City, Leyte; and Dr. Amelita P. De Mesa of Manuel G. Araullo High School in Metro Manila. Honorable mention awardees were Aileen R. Apostol of Santo Niño Special Education Center in Tacloban City, Leyte; Audepaz E. Benitez of Muntinlupa National High School;
and Vladimir B. Paraiso of Timoteo Paez High School in Metro Manila. Fortune Life President D. Arnold A. Cabangon thanked DepEd and its teachers for their unwavering support of the company’s advocacy program. Accordingly, he knows that his father’s principles are still as influential, and his advocacies are still as significant even to this day. He encouraged everyone, especially the awardees, to follow the footsteps of the late ambassador in order to become instruments of positive change. Education Secretary Dr. Leonor M. Briones, was the event’s guest of honor and keynote speaker. She praised Fortune Life’s initiative of promoting values needed by today’s children. “To give importance to discipline and hard work is to bring up the very values that had made us as a nation and as a people.” Briones said. She also reiterated that education in the country is a task not only of DepEd, but also everyone’s joint responsibility.
