Building a bank of awesome habits is the most successful investment you can work towards! I am very grateful to have the opportunity to be able to share a more personal side of myself and discuss what I do to stay on the top level of performance. Years ago I was doing ok in my career and personal life, but I still wondered how to get more impact, more significance, and more income. It seemed almost impossible to make more money then the average Canadian, and to achieve the success and freedom that so many people seemed to have. What was apparent to me was that life was only going to be what I was panning out to do, and I wasn’t really planning out success to the level that interested me most. What I had to do was define the outcome that I wanted for my life either in the moment or long term. Then I had to look at my mental and physical actions to see which of those were getting me closer to my goal and what was keeping me from reaching it. Once I was getting clarity on those items, I could then take what I learned and execute actions that would become the beginning to a plan that would be my life’s greatest habits. For me this is a massive conversation because I shifted my direction of travel 180 degrees and took action to mastering some very important tasks.

1. I committed to a list of outcomes and goals, and I committed to achieving these goals. 2. I removed people from my life that were not supporting me or my goals. 3. I realized that alcohol and bad dieting was very evil for my body and my actions, it was time to be nourishing and not destructive with the inputs. 4. learned to meditate and master the power of affirmations and incantations. 5. I learned a process of owning the morning and really fire up the day with a burst of energy and the right attitude defined. 6. Rather than sleeping for 3 hours per night, I ensure 8 hours 7. I became obsessed with the best ways to be present and available for my family. 8. Model the success coming from other people that have gone through the journey already. And pay attention to the failures so that its not repeated. 9. Hire a coach, one who has experienced huge changes and could push me beyond my imagination. But not just any coach, it had to be someone who truly experienced transition. I needed to learn how to show up in a positive state, have a compelling story of why I demanded achievement, and have the strategies to execute with commitment. I found it was very easy to live a life of “not enough” and to complain about what everyone was doing wrong. Rather I learned to celebrate the successes of other people which has helped open my learning because when you are interested in other peoples success, they will want to help you learn and experience the greatness that they do. If you don’t believe me, try to observe who hangs out with who. The successful people will hang out with other people who are inspired to achieve more. The ones who like to grumble and complain, seem to find a support group of similar opinions.

So here’s the breakdown! Step by Step! Alex shares it’s not only doing it but also the order in which you do it is important. And Set aside an hour in morning before you start your day for this kickstart your day program! So here it is: 1. Make the bed first! This is important as it gets you to start your morning with a win! The very first task you had is checked out and gets your mind mentally off to a positive state of achievement! 2. Go to your sink and splash cold water on your face and make sure you get some in your eyes! This is called getting your physical state into shock and waking it up so it’s in an alert state! 3. Read – 10 mins – While business or personal development books are good, the best books to start your day with are spiritual as they give you the big picture of what you want to create at a larger scale and plug into the source of why you’re doing what you do! 4. Wash up – 10 mins – floss, brush your teeth, and mouthwash – while you’re doing this, it’s important to listen to what we call subliminal success messages that reboot your mind for success. These are audio tracks that you can download or listen to on youtube. As far as a few good sources, There are tons of great ones out there you can listen to for free or get customized ones done. One of the best is Joseph Clough who has over 8,000,000 downloads. This will get your mind in the right state to begin the day! 5. Affirmations – 5 mins – Along with hearing what you’re wanting to create, it’s important to actually speak into existence who you are becoming by putting it in the present tense! For example, On my wall, I have I am best selling author and speaker, I am one of the largest followed people on social media, I am a loving husband who provides for his family, I lead by example and teach others how to reach their full potential. The key is to speak it as your words have power and you’re declaring to the universe not just what you want but what already is and thanking God or the universe in advance for receiving it. Having you speak into existence what you’re creating has a cognitive effect on your mind that’s different than just reading it or hearing it! So make sure to say it out loud each time!

6. Meditation – 10 mins – I believe over 80% of the successful people I studied said the #1 habit they attribute to their success is meditation. I was never big on meditating and had a challenge getting my mind to calm down when I first started. And now, after having practiced meditation for last few years, it not only allows my mind to calm down, but I have some of my most creative ideas come during the process (so make sure you have a pen and paper or the notes section of your phone ready to jot them down as they come up!)

7. Visualize – 10 mins. – One of the best hacks I’ve seen out there from visualization comes from James Lawrence, the Iron Cowboy! James ran 50 iron man in 50 states in 50 days! He is a testament to what the human body and mind is truly capable of when we feel we’ve reached our capacity. During the podcast with James, an interviewer asked him, was there ever a time you wanted to quit? He said yes! On the 30th day with the 30th iron man, my body had worn down, I was physically exhausted, crawled up in the fettle position and started crying. The interviewer responded what got you back up? The Iron cowboy said I started thinking of all the reasons I was doing this, my family, my community, the non-profit cause I was supporting, and keeping my word. One reason by itself was not enough, but when I put them all together, it was strong enough to get me back up and do the next 20 iron mans in 20 days to finish what I started! I was trying to figure out how can I hack what he felt emotionally so I can have that type of motivation as part of daily process! So here’s the hack: take all the pictures of the people and places that have a deep meaning to you along with success quotes, pictures of you with those who are your mentors or idols, and any pics of you being successful, on stage receiving award, etc. Then open the app imovie on iphone and create a movie out of it. Add your favourite music to it and voila! You now got a movie of all your whys that will get you emotionally SUPERCHARGED each day. What makes this so powerful is this affects you emotionally between the pics and music which is touching on several different senses vs. just a vision board, for example, and because the pictures and quotes have a special meaning to you personally, they will have a deeper effect to you taking action toward your goals! 8. Journalling – 5 mins – The best way to overcome any anger and deal with things that are affecting you emotionally is to reflect on them! I journal about the day prior, what were the things I did well, what are things that affected me negatively emotionally, what’s some different ways to think about the same circumstances in the future where it doesn’t slow me down. This process of self-reflection is going to have the biggest impact on being able to make quick daily adjustments based on identifying obstacles that are blocking you from reaching your goals emotionally or tactically so you can overcome them. And it’s been proven journalling leads to less stress and better mental health as you take out all that emotional noise from your mind and leave it all out on paper! 9. Gratitude stacking – 1 min - This one is one of my own hacks! Back when I had lost everything and moved back in with my mom, I really felt like I had hit bottom! And I had nothing to be grateful for! I remember attending a Tony Robbins course and he said live your life by having appreciation vs. expectation. So I decided to make a list everyday of 3 NEW things I was grateful for. I figured being able to think of 3 new things would challenge me to see what I could find. So the first few days were my

mom, fiancé, and a place to live. Day 2 was car to drive, $462 in my checking account, and meals to eat. By Day 3-10, I covered a lot of family and friends, which I had never really took the time to be grateful for. By Day 11, I started looking at new things like the air I breathe, the beautiful ocean I got to live near, and trees. By the time I got to day 20, I started to realize I had a lot more to be thankful for than I was consciously aware of. So this exercise is great to make you become aware of just how abundant our lives are and everything we have but just don’t pay attention to. And operating from that space of abundance will have you thinking better creatively and feeling alive emotionally.

This concludes your Success Hacks kick start your day! And best part is you can knock this out in an hour! For those who get their exercise in the morning then this is a great way to get the physical movement knocked out for the day! 1. Movement – 30 mins – I work out 6 times a week and switch from weights to circuit training to jogging to yoga so I get it all in for the week to cover the 3 aspects of living strong physically! Strength, flexibility, and endurance! A great additional benefit is to listen to a podcast or audio track on an area you’re wanting to build in your life (business, relationships, health) where you can nourish your mind while building your body! This is what we call productivity stacking or ability to do two productive activities at one time! Now you’re ready to rock your day! We have what we call the 21 day challenge where we’ve had members do this for 21 days and report astounding results. I recommend start doing this for a week and I promise you the outlasting benefits will make you wonder how you ever lived without doing this! And here’s a few success hacks on how to end your day: 1. Write down the 3 things you’re grateful for that day and then 3 wins you had for the day! So often we end the day by reflecting on all the things we haven’t done. It’s important to reinforce the positive things accomplished in your mind so you’ll want to take action towards creating same type of results tomorrow! 2. Write down everything you’re wanting to knock out for the next day and prioritize them in the order you’ll be knocking them out. This way, when you go to sleep, your mind is free to rest and not think about a checklist for the next day. This will lead to a more peaceful and deep sleep which will allow you to be more productive the following day! 3. If you have a problem you’re wanting to solve, ask your

subconscious mind the question you’re wanting to solve before you go to sleep! This period your subconscious mind is not distracted and will actually work while you sleep to solve that problem for you. And you’ll have an answer the following day. Now some people say waking up an extra hour early is a lot to ask for! After all, we’re all busy individuals. Can we do this on day in and day out? To this I say, here’s the best results hack! The most successful people I’ve encountered are more in love with the process of what it takes to get the outcome than the results itself. So what I’ve learned is fall in love with the process of what it takes for you to get the outcome you’re seeking than the outcome itself. And what will result is your transformation. And the goals were seeking will inevitably be achieved because they just become a byproduct of your transformation! To sum it all up, using this Kickstart your day Success Hack morning routine will get your better results, more peace of mind, greater creative ideas, peak state energy, and clarity on where you’re headed and why you’re doing it! Phil Kaplan A simple six-element strategy that has never failed me, or my upscale and high-profile clients. GROWTH Over the course of 35 years, Phil Kaplan has traveled the world learning, experiencing, and helping people change for the better. Here’s an exercise we can do together. Put these six words in order. Consider them as variables that will impact your future, and determine, if you were to set out to tackle them one at a time, where you’d have to start. Here are the six words. Habits. Mindset. Rituals. Behaviors. Perspectives. Outcomes. What comes first? If we consider this puzzle carefully, we’d have to start with mindset, as your “state of mind” will determine your behaviors, shape your perspectives, etc. So, #1, Mindset. Right? Right. Well, hmmmm. Maybe . . . . Maybe we have to re-think this.

Suppose someone habitually wakes up in the morning and moves right into playing a mental movie of “the worst-case scenario” of the day ahead. Wouldn’t that “habit” then affect mindset? Of course it would. So, I guess we have to start with Habits. OK, #1, Habits. If we change Habits, we change Mindset, and then everything else falls into place, right?

Six Elements Phil Kaplan

Right, except in the case of the individual who holds the perspective, “nothing ever works out the way I want it to.” It’s clear that nothing will change until we can modify that perspective. So . . . perspective becomes #1? The reality is, this is a ridiculous and impossible puzzle, as these six elements are so intrinsically intertwined we can’t possibly state a definitive “start here.”

would “get in trouble.” I’d help my buddies “figure out” how to minimize the fallout or escape consequences altogether. I bring that innate love for strategy to business and it’s no wonder as an adult I was well compensated as a “consultant,” a title I’ve still not learned to embrace, but an undertaking that allowed me to work on another’s behalf to “resolve challenges.” There are my two innate gifts, “helping others” and “being strategic” pulled together in what can only be called my natural course of growth. THEN I FOUND MY FITNESS CALLING

The very good news is this. All six elements are changeable. And if you realize the vital relationship between them, you can completely revamp your path, reset your sights, and re-create your future. I’ve learned this twice. First, I learned it from books, lessons, and mentors. Then, I found myself with what I can only call true expertise. I learned the lessons about the intertwining of the six words the hard way. I got my ass kicked. Hard. And all I had left were these six elements. IT BEGINS AT BIRTH . . . AND THEN WE CHANGE (From Potential to Destiny) We are all born with innate gifts, and then nurture and environment take us from our innate potential to our destiny. We can move from potential to destiny by ascending . . . or by making bad decisions, allowing outside factors to control the course, and becoming victimized by our gradually imposed limits. In simpler English that means, we can grow or we can crumble. Many people crumble. I was born with an innate sense of caring, an elevated empathy, and a mind that is both challenged and nourished by strategy. In fourth grade I had an injury that hospitalized me and bedridden for several months, I devoted an unreasonable number of hours to a military board game called Stratego. I became so practiced I could no longer find anyone to play with me. I’d win in a matter of moves. I learned to anticipate my opponent’s moves, to seek out patterns in his play, and to quickly assess where he might have hidden the prize possession the game deems the victory piece, the Flag.

The desire to help others took me into the fitness field and I immersed myself in learning how to better my own body and health as a vehicle to helping others do the same. When I first decided to start a personal training business, building a lucrative future in this field was unheard of. I met with representatives of S.C.O.R.E., a free advisory division of the Small Business Administration, and their advisors thought I was from another planet as I tried to describe my “business plan.” They couldn’t understand how I could possibly build a viable business going to people’s homes and offices and taking them through exercise routines. I needed strategy, but I also needed to learn and there weren’t many achievers doing what I wanted to do. I didn’t know how to find a mentor who would understand my aspirations and guide me, so I decided I’d learn from experts, not in building personal training businesses, but in human development, in personal betterment, in ascension. I immersed myself in reading and there were four books I read, not once, but religiously, each time with a journal beside me, taking notes, setting goals, and capturing lessons.

Chess was a natural evolution. In sixth grade I was one of 6 kids in the chess club. Yes, it was nerdy, but I also played sports so I somehow got by without the nerd stigma. In middle school and high school, I was the go-to guy when a peer

Wanna know what the books were? Of course you do: • As a Man Thinketh • The Richest Man in Babylon • Think and Grow Rich • See You At the Top The books taught me the importance of the six elements. My Habits were the acquired behaviors my mind and body pursued with such regularity they became involuntary (only later, when I read “The Brain That Changes Itself” did I realize my Habits were physically “wired” into my brain). If I wanted to ascend beyond the destiny my path was leading me toward, it became clear that I had to change those habits that limited me. My Mindset was the driving force (resultant of my inner programming) that determined what emotions I would attach to given actions, behaviors, people, and thoughts. If I was ever going to take true responsibility for my future, I had to take complete responsibility for my Mindset. Interestingly, I came to realize that my Habits served to create my Mindset and my Mindset served to reinforce my Habits. Change required, not only changing a single element, but ultimately all six! The third of the six elements would be the Rituals we attach to. Leaving a day’s work at a job you hate, meeting friends at a bar, and complaining over the frustration of the day is an example of a ritual that serves only to focus your attention upon the misery of earning a living. Attaching enjoyment to the act of complaining,

or worse yet, “topping each other’s complaints” is a common American ritual that keeps far too many stuck. My rituals included what I did upon waking from bed, what thoughts I created and gave attention to as I started my day, the discipline I started to employ in going to the gym and focusing on betterment, and what I did, thought, and contemplated before I laid down for the evening. It’s clear that our Behaviors dictate our likelihood of finding growth and achievement, but only when you realize how closely your Behaviors are guided and determined by your Habits, Mindsets, and Rituals can you truly claim authority over your ability to change. Our Perspectives include the global thoughts we give to the concept of achievement and to our own power and capabilities. When we accept the Perspective that our Outcomes need not be random, but can literally be scripted as “memories that simply haven’t happened yet,” the whole puzzle comes together. All Six Elements Work Together to Create The Pathway Learning to employ an integrative Strategy that not only incorporates the six elements, but also fully respects the power of Habits, Mindset, Rituals, Behaviors, Perspectives, and Outcomes in what any one of us deems “The Pathway to Success.” The six-element strategy never failed me. I say that related to both my own growth and my consulting energies devoted to upscale and high-profile clients. The strategy isn’t a “step-by-step” as much as an overall

recognition of the reliability of each element upon the other five. It’s always going to be an integration, the respective adjustment of moving parts serving to move the whole. WHAT CAN YOU IMAGINE? In coming back to the puzzle I frivolously pursued at the onset of this article, if there really were a “Step #1,” I’d have to say the best first step requires Imagination. Only when you can imagine an Outcome greater than that which you’re presently accepting of can you begin rewiring, adjusting, and changing Habits and Rituals. My ascension took me from building a personal training business to owning and operating fitness centers, publishing six best-selling books, being paid to speak before massive audiences around the world, and being a guest on over 1,000 TV and radio shows. The shift from being a tentative entrepreneur sitting in the Small Business Administration office pleading for guidance to achiever started with my willingness to imagine each outcome and act upon all six elements to convert imagination into certainty. With time, my Rituals were changed with intention, my Habits evolved based on the emotions I attached to the Outcomes I sought after and believed in, and my willingness to adjust my own Perspectives literally rewired my brain. You can do the same. MOVING THE RIGHT PAWN CAN LEAD TO VICTORY . . . EVEN IF IT SEEMS YOU’RE IN “CHECK” I began to think of business as a chess game. Each individual in a company has his or her own “way of moving.” Each goal set out by a business leader will be faced with obstacles. In planning strategically, making the right moves, and learning to “resolve” the bad moves, we can maintain certainty in an outcome manifesting. Skill, the environment, leadership ability, and communication will determine how quickly a business Outcome manifests. It all comes down to Strategy and the Six Elements. That’s why, when Hurricane Wilma hit, I knew there was a new Outcome ahead, and only I had the power to create it. My belief was rattled, my world was flipped upside down, and I literally lost everything, except my recognition of Strategy and The Six Elements. I won’t share the long story here. I’ll simply share enough to give you a sense of the magnitude of the struggle I found myself in and the reliability of Strategy and the Six Elements.

In October of 2005, Hurricane Wilma blew the roof off of my office, training studio, corporate headquarters, and warehouse. The following day a tropical storm left 3 feet of standing water inside the building. Everything was ruined. Exercise equipment, furniture, half a million dollars in inventory, electronics. records, and worst of all, the daily “home” of my staff. The Hurricane wasn’t the problem. It was the turning point. The stress over my extreme desire to “fix” my business led ultimately to a divorce. The financial loss crippled me. That, however, wasn’t the source of what I’m referring to as a struggle. It was much bigger than that. Months after the storm hit, as I was tangled in trying to find solutions and sort through some of life’s largest stressors, I became ill. My symptoms ranged from extreme lung inflammation and a gut-wrenching cough to tremors, pain, cognitive impairment, and an inability to complete a sentence without severe stuttering. After extensive testing I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I said I’d keep the story brief. I lost my health insurance, couldn’t collect on my business insurance for the financial losses, and had difficulty holding on to the still remaining elements of my business. Eventually the whole thing crumbled. According to the doctors, my options were disability, a reliance on medications, and finding ongoing medical care without insurance. According to my belief . . . there was another answer. There had to be. I knew I couldn’t accept the Perspective of the doctors. I knew I couldn’t allow my Mindset to shift away from certainty in a new and thrilling outcome. I worked hard to maintain my power of Imagination . . . and I kept searching. Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker in Pocomoke City, Maryland brought me a new turning point. He gave me the most beautiful words I’d ever received. He said, “You have mold toxicity.” Why are those beautiful words? Because they were preceded by “You don’t have Parkinson’s. You have mold toxicity.” After a short bout of appropriate treatment, my symptoms diminished and ultimately went away. After a few months I returned to conducting seminars. Every night I invested at least 90 minutes in creating new Habits, Mindset, Rituals, Behaviors, Perspectives, and Outcomes. A new forward path opened up. A new Perspective became prominent. I realized that If I had simply listened to the doctors, accepted a new mindset based on the Perspectives they threw

at me, had I adopted habits and rituals involving medications and assistance, I would have lived the rest of my life in extreme compromise. I started to think of all the people diagnosed with chronic disease, people who might have accepted the labels and with those labels, a Mindset of futility, and I saw a new opportunity. My career path changed. I moved away from helping people find “great glutes and abs” and moved toward helping people reverse chronic disease. I studied Mindset and Neuroplasticity at a new level. Today my business is a far cry from its original manifestation. I’ve found a home in the space between Fitness and Medicine drawing both ends toward the middle. I’ve created protocols for reversing Weight Loss Resistance and the risks that come with it. I’m working to change the medical field in the realm of treating, and I daresay “curing” chronic disease. I’ve developed new lifestyle, exercise, and nutrition programs incorporating mindset and healing.

IT’S ALL DIFFERENT NOW, AND THAT BRINGS A NEW LEVEL OF GRATITUDE The Strategy I employed required a recognition of my new resources, the virtues of my recent experiences, and the new power I might have failed to recognize had I not held on to the belief that ultimately, I am in control of my Outcomes. I can’t control every environment, the weather, unexpected turmoil, or the actions of others, but I can control how I strategically recognize and affect the power of the Six Elements. My gift to you is simple. Know that you have power over your destiny. Know that you have the resources, although yours, in specificity, are different than mine. Know, that at times, your greatest resources take some introspection to find. Know that you can grow, ascend, and develop whatever you choose . . . and know that the power lies within your willingness to take ownership over those elements that allow you to create whatever you choose. Kelsey Garber My why is simple – I want to live the absolute best life I can and I want to give the best life possible to everyone around me. GROWTH The key to growth is knowing what deserves energy. First is using the best habits to keep your body healthy with nutrients is the first thing, without health you have no way of doing anything further. If you are going to wear mulitple hats and have impact on people, you must be constantly recalibrating to maintain your state, story, and strategy. My name is Kelsey Garber. I am a wife to a hard working farmer. My husband and I have a mixed grain and cattle farm. This farm has been in the family for generations. We have two beautiful and strong-willed young daughters. One is 6 and one is 3. They are full of constant challenges and love. On top of being fully involved in our farm, I am also a full-time teacher. I am the only teacher at a multi-graded school, with just under 20 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Just over a year ago I started with the nutritional multi-levelled marketing company, Juice Plus. Because I was determined to help other people and to help my family, I moved up the ranks quickly. Everything that I do is to help our farm be financially successful and to create a life that my girls love as much as their parents. How did you start?

I started with Juice Plus because I had a health scare where the life insurance company was going to down grade me, meaning make us pay a higher premium, because of what they found in my bloodwork. They don’t tell you what they found, just that something is wrong. After some digging with my doctor we found that the problem was high blood cholesterol. This was an amazing discovery, because it was so much better than what I was fearing. It also was my motivation to get healthier. Let’s be honest, I really wasn’t that happy with my body or my brain long before that. I had a long list of ailments and conditions and was just plain not happy with where I was at. I decided to start with Juice Plus because I wanted to make changes that I would not fail at. I did not want some diet that I was going to do for 10 days or 10 weeks

and then fall off the wagon. I needed something that was easy, convenient and wasn’t going to change my diet completely from my family. I started sharing all of my amazing benefits with others and I soon had 60 clients and I was building a team. Were there times of trial and how did you recover and get back on track? Absolutely there were times of trial. The biggest trial that I have had is that I didn’t think that I deserved to be successful. I didn’t believe that I had any authority to be sharing my story, my limited knowledge, my beliefs with other. The main push that got me over those self-limiting beliefs was my business coach, Troy. He helped my to understand that I has my own biggest enemy and he gave me strategies to keep on trucking. Are there mental and physical strategies to master to keep that alive? I think that each person has to realize that their business is their own. There are going to be strategies that work for everyone, but there are also going to be things that work splendidly for others that just aren’t for you. The strategies that have worked for me include: 1. I wrote down my limiting thoughts and actions and then I wrote down what I was going to change to stop those habits from continuing. 2. I keep updating my goals whether they are personal or business. 3. I sleep more, take omegas and drink a ton more water, so that my brain is at its best. 4. Most importantly I keep my why at the front of my brain. What is your why or your purpose that keeps you pushing through even when you are tired? My why is simple – I want to live the absolute best life I can and I want to give the best life possible to everyone around me. When I thought that I had something really wrong with me, it scared me. All that I could think of was that there was so much more that I wanted to be a part of. I want to watch my children play and I want to create great memories with them. I want to be my husband’s girlfriend until we are ancient and decrepit. I want to see our farm, our dream, succeed. I love that I have also found a way to give back to other people. I wanted to be a part of something that was bigger than myself. I love hearing the success stories of my clients with my products, it honestly gives me goose bumps. What is the advice you would give to people to stay determined to win? The advice that I would give is do not be the biggest obstacle in your success. Really look at what you are saying to yourself, look at what you are doing physically and mentally to literally stop yourself dead in the tracks. Write down what you are grateful for. Write down your goals and then get out of the way!

Do you model people?

I write down 3 things that I am grateful for every day. I also say a daily affirmation into the mirror. I make sure that I am making positive and uplifting posts on social media at least once a day. Is there value in hiring a coach to help you with that? I know that I would not be in the position that I am today without my coach. The way that my coach has been able to make me dig deep into myself has been invaluable. As well, there are so many strategies about dealing with others that I have never looked at from a business point of view. I don’t think that there is any way that I would have been able to build the all-important relationships with clients or team members without my coach.

This is a hard question. I guess I model people that when I think of them I think, “That person is the most positive and strongest person I know.” Honestly I would say that my business coach is one the people that I am aiming to be in the future. What maybe doesn’t work… I think that I have finally found out that it doesn’t work to be everything to everyone. It doesn’t work to spread yourself so thin that you can’t do anything well. I wear many hats, but I also have to realize that there are limitations and it is ok to say, NO.

What habits have you committed to that keep you on the right track towards your goal? There are several things I do that keep me on track with my goals. These are the same things I use to help my clients to get the results they desire. Setting Clear Intentions The first step is setting clear intentions for what it is that you want. When you define your goals with extreme clarity, then everything you do from that point on is done with purpose and direction. Otherwise, it is just an idea that is left floating around in your never-ending sea of thoughts. You will be like a buoy bobbing in the water; never getting anywhere. I live in Hollywood, the land of dreams. I see and work with so many people who come here to make their dreams come true. Those who are successful have clear goals written out. Those who are unsure of what it is that they want are the ones who aimlessly wander around never making anything happen. People always ask me, ”Why it is that your clients do so well?” The main answer is that I help them discover and define what it is that they truly want. Once we set extremely clear intentions, they can become laser-focused on what they want to achieve.

Just because you have clear intentions doesn’t mean that things are going to happen or that you will even know how to get from point A to point B. When I have days where I feel lost or confused about what I am supposed to be doing, I look at my tasks and get re-centered and get back to work. Small objectives keep me from getting overwhelmed.

Simplify and Intensify Think about it. If you were able to cut something out of your life that was not serving a purpose and fill it with something that could improve your life or take your business to a whole new level, would you do it? Of course, you would! By decluttering your life of all the unnecessary information, material goods, relationships, and commitments, you will be able to make a greater impact on your goals. Here are a few ways you can simplify your life: • Clear your life of material possessions that no longer serve you, so you have a clean space to focus on what is important. • Clear your schedule of time commitments that do not serve your higher purpose. • Clear your financial debt so that you can have a clear mind to work towards your goals. • Clear the addiction to screens and limit the amount of time you spend on social media, TV, computers, movies, games, etc. • Clear your life of relationships that hinder you or bring negativity to your life. Surround yourself with those who motivate you and push you to excellence. • Clear out and limit the information that is constantly thrown at you via notifications, news, email lists, etc.

Make sure to write your tasks out and put it somewhere where you can physically see them. If you don’t constantly see what you are supposed to be doing, then you will quickly get distracted.

Keep Showing Up The key in all of this is- KEEP SHOWING UP! Day after day, show up and take baby steps towards your goals. Your circumstances might limit you. It might take you longer, but that is ok. If you keep putting in the time and energy, you will begin to see results.

Do you recommend hiring a coach and how do you find the right people to guide you? If you want to maximize your success, regardless of what field you are in or what you are trying to achieve in your life, you need a coach. The most talented athletes in the world hire coaches to help them win the Gold. The most talented singers have coaches to make them sing better and to perform at their peak. The most talented actors in the world have coaches. What makes you any different? We spend more money on material goods than we do on bettering ourselves, which is incredibly mind-blowing. The Michael Kors purse or watch; the newest Nikes; the latest iPhone, etc…they are all material things that bring us instant gratification but quickly fade away. When you hire a coach, you are setting yourself up for a life of success. There are coaches in every facet of life- mind, body, soul, business, relationships, finances, performance, etc. A coach doesn’t just help you achieve success in your career, they also help you be the best possible version of yourself. I realize the cost of a coach can be steep but as my dad has always said, “Son, people pay for what they want.” And that is entirely true. If you want to achieve great things in your life, then you need to shift your mindset and give focus to what is most important. Get rid of the expensive car and work several extra hours a week if you have to so that you can afford it. If you can only afford to go once a month, that is better than not going at all. Do what you have to do to work with someone to get you to the next level. The pay off in the end will benefit you more than you can imagine. Finding the RIGHT coach can be challenging but just like you try on jeans…you are going to have to “try on” coaches until you find the right fit. You must work with someone who you trust, builds your confidence, is honest with you, pushes you out of your comfort zone, and keeps you growing and excelling. Don’t get frustrated and quit. Keep searching until you find the right person for you. You may also have several different coaches depending on what you are working towards. What other forms of self-investment do you recommend? It is not just about investing money; it is also about investing your time. It is up to you to ensure that you are the full embodiment of the highest version of yourself. There are so many ways to invest in yourself.

Hire a coach, strategist, or therapist. Surround yourself with a tribe of people who keep inspired and accountable. Read books, watch videos, or listen to podcasts that get you inspired. Take online courses, retreats, group classes, seminars, or mastermind events. Meditate daily to quiet your mind so that you can receive answers as well as allow your creative mind to work. Connect with nature to keep you grounded. Do things that light you up and get you excited. Develop your gifts and talents and build new skill sets. Find things that will keep your mind, body, and soul balanced. Surround yourself with people who inspire you. Create a gratitude journal. If you wake up tomorrow with only the things you were grateful for today…you would quickly become aware of what you are blessed with. Last but definitely not least- Serve the world around you. Do good for others, animals, and the planet. This will have the greatest impact on your life.

As a high-performance coach, what do you do to stay at your peak level so that the people you coach, also stay at a high level? The most essential component for me is staying healthy and balanced - mind, body, and soul. I give so much of myself, so it is vital for me to remain charged and balanced. I also practice what I preach, which pushes me always to be better. I am constantly reading, studying, learning, and developing new skill sets. I also attend seminars, retreats, masterminds, etc. I have built a tribe of people around me who keep me motivated. I stay hungry for knowledge and newness in everything I do. I am also extremely creative, so I am always creating something new to add into my work to keep my energy flowing and inspired. It also helps me to stay on top of the current trends in technology so that it works best for me and those I work with. What happens to the most talented people who decide they need no one? I have been coaching successful talent for over 20 years. I am not saying coaches are Gods, but without fail, every single person who decided to do things on their own or to settle for a lower level coach, never reached their full potential. It’s not that they haven’t found some level of success, it’s just that they haven’t fully blossomed to their full potential. They are doing the same exact

thing expecting a different outcome. It’s like watching a hamster in a wheel that never goes anywhere. I think the important message here is that everyone needs someone to keep them accountable and on point. Those who are serious and have the eye of the tiger understand the importance of investing in themselves and hiring the best. It separates the pro from the novice. It’s up to you to decide what side of the scale you want to be on. What happens to the people who do reach to you for help, do they develop strategies to enhance their outcome? I will be honest. I am not for everyone. I am brutally honest and straight to the point. I don’t take BS of any kind. I expect to receive what I give, and that is 100%. But if someone truly wants to achieve greatness in their lives, then we will work hand in hand to make it happen. The journey is so much more than developing strategies. I help them to overcome fears, old thought patterns, and embrace who they are; walk in confidence; learn how to get out of their own way; discover their why; create intentions, goals, and strategies; identify natural talents and abilities as well as develop new skill sets to make our natural intelligences shine; develop timelines; understand and embrace their authentic self; create what they want; etc. Those who really want greatness have to work through every aspect of their lives. You can’t just focus on one aspect and expect to reach greatness. You must be fully balanced. I’m a clinical psychologist and a mom. I am also the author of the best-selling books Bounce: Help Your Child Build Resilience and Thrive in School, Sports and Life and Putter and the Red Car: A Cross Country Family Adventure. Both books share the central theme of resilience, although in very different ways. I was drawn to writing about resilience because I grew up with a medical condition called hydrocephalus, which set me apart from my peers in various ways and got me in touch with a need to bounce back and move forward, despite the setbacks along the way. I was helped in this process by a great support system that allowed me to see the person I was, as opposed to the challenges I happened to have. I came to see and focus on what I could do rather than what I could not do. As time passed, I internalized the idea that I could do things. I could do most everything that my peers could do; only a few activities remained challenging, and in the big picture they were no big deal since I could do so much else. My work as a clinical psychologist in a range of medical, school, university, and private practice settings over 15 years has added depth to my focus on resilience. My experiences working with children and families to overcome challenges and create a new sense of normal, when things are anything but, have been powerful reminders of how vital it is to develop the skills to conquer challenges early in life and to find ways to not let the challenges define you. Watching my own children grapple with life’s trials and tribulations has further contributed to my interest.

My current practice is based on working with children, families and student-athletes to live as resilient a life as possible within their own unique context. Much of this work is based on the seven pillars of the resilient child outlined in my book Bounce: Help Your Child Build Resilience and Thrive in School, Sports and Life. How did you start? I started developing my skills as a psychologist as a young child and through high school, as I was always drawn to understanding the world and people around me. This, combined with the many medical ordeals I faced related to Hydrocephalus added to my interest and made me resilient in the process. So it all fits together. From there, I majored in psychology and minored in journalism in college. I interned at the White House in the Clinton Administration and this experience solidified my long-term goal to pursue a graduate degree in psychology as opposed to pursuing a career in journalism or media. Yet, I knew at some point I would merge writing with work as a clinical psychologist. Are there mental and physical strategies to master to keep that alive? Mastering the ability to remain flexible and fluid in my life and work has been vital to my success as a psychologist, author and Mom. What is your why or your purpose that keeps you pushing through even when you are tired? My overall purpose in my work is contributing to the well-being of my family in a meaningful and fulfilling way. I cherish my time with my 11-year-old twins, husband and West Highland White Terrier and do my best to create a balanced approach to my work and life with them.

Is there value in hiring a coach to help you with that? Hiring a coach can be a very useful and powerful move as long as there is synergy between client and coach. Coaches are not onesize fits all. Do you model people? Not really. I try to be at my best within my own unique context. While I think modeling can be powerful, I also believe it is essential that people honor their own unique context. What maybe doesn’t work… Overwhelm is a very dangerous thing as an entrepreneur. When I think about high performers in the business world, I have an instant visual of a professional man or woman in their mid thirties - nice pressed suit and perfectly shined shoes - running to meeting after meeting. Either virtually or physically. Running, also, themselves ragged. They are working hard to pay their bills, keep kids in college, maybe some “keeping up with the Jones’”. They have family responsibilities which finds them running from work to soccer fields and dance recitals. At the end of this person’s day, they are exhausted, and asking themselves, “Is this what my life is all about?” I have discovered the success drive most people have, comes from what I’ve coined “The Monster Under the Bed”. It’s a voice from our childhood where we felt we HAD to prove our value and worth. It is an example of a Fight message from our survival brain; the part of our brain that comes pre-programmed. It doesn’t make logical sense looking at it now with our prefrontal cortex brain that is fully developed, that a little child would need to prove their worth by what they do, In fact, if you have children, you know that little child is unconditionally loved and worthy as is! But this was wiring, that we are still a product of, wasn’t created from a logical, reasonable place. and this voice will not stop until you are either burnedout or burned-up trying to PROVE how worthy, perfect, acceptable you are. The truth is - you can never get enough of what you never needed to begin with.
