While a midge bite is purely a nuisance, it is easily preventable. Avon 'Skin So Soft' lotion is renowned for its insect repelling properties, and even the manliest outdoorsman appreciates having skin like a baby's posterior every once in a while. E. Coyote and his road runner. Figures driven mad by the chase, consumed by the never-ending obsession with the very thing they will never overcome.

In this case, my obsession lies with this picture of a raccoon giving a young buck a right good fright. While not as all-encompassing as the two examples given, I do find myself returning to examine this wild encounter, time and again, in the hope that one day I’ll come away with a clearer understanding.

What is the raccoon up to? Is the deer interrupting something? Ultimately, it’s taken a few weeks for me to accept that this obsession may be in vain as, plainly speaking, I’ll just never know exactly what happened between these two creatures.

My reason for discussing this - other than acting as a cry for help - serves to hammer home just how fascinating the technology used to capture the image is.

I’ve realised that the context of the picture is not worth fixating on, what’s important is the fact that we have the picture at all. The unstaged and unspoiled nature of the picture is exactly what renders it so incredible to me, and this has all been made possible by the simple and conveniently timed placement of a Stealth Cam trail camera. Stealth Cam provide the necessary tools to capture wildlife at its most wild, and whilst not every resultant picture is worth fussing over, every so often there comes along a photograph as intriguing as this one.

The enjoyment I’ve gathered from using Stealth Cams over the past few months has fundamentally stemmed from

the voyeuristic qualities (no, not like that) of trail cam photography as a pastime.

Utilising cutting-edge No Glo technology, the latest offerings from Stealth Cam namely the GX45NG and the G42NG - are guaranteed to remain completely covert and can photograph fauna without any disturbance whatsoever - even in close vicinity and under poor lighting conditions. Stealth Cam’s perfection of the tech now grants us easy capture of wildlife sights previously exclusive to dedicated camera crews or two guys in a horse costume.

What really cements my admiration for both the Stealth Cam brand and accompanying technology is just how simple it all is. This notion has remained prevalent across all of the models I’ve encountered, but particularly so with the GX45NG and its full colour LCD screen.

The basic, but innovative, inclusion of a screen allows for immediate playback and removes all doubt from the equation when setting up your trail camera.

All this talk of convenience has me thinking of this time last year when my street was being terrorised in the night by a mysterious four-legged beast. The menace would keep me up to all hours with its blood-curdling shrieks, square off against the area’s domesticated cats and break into my bins to claw its way through the leftover haggis suppers. I’m almost certain that if I’d have known that
