Burnett County Clerk of Court Trudy Schmidt was honored at last week’s County Board meeting for serving nearly 36 years in the county’s courthouse. “It has been quite a ride for 36 years,” Schmidt told a packed county board room last Thursday. “I have seen many, many changes to this county government system.” Schmidt started in 1983 when the courthouse was still in Grantsburg as a judicial assistant. She has worked with five different judges, eight different sheriffs, and seven different County Board Chairman. For the last 18 years, she has been the Clerk of Court. “I know Trudy from working with her for many years and I

SOFTEC holds round table event with business leaders A diverse group of regional leaders attended the business round table event at the SOFTEC earlier this month. It was the second round table event hosted by SOFTEC this year. They hope to engage leaders at least once each quarter in 2019 pertaining to different topics of the region. The focus of last week’s event was “The Business of Doing Good.” This event was inspired by multiple groups discussing regional needs related to housing, recovery and skills training. SOFTEC’s model continues to evolve as they have been contacted by many different organizations asking about their accelerated training model and how it may be implemented into some existing and or proposed projects moving forward in a collaborative effort to create change.

Last Thursday was Ron Wilhelm’s last County Board meeting as Burnett County Sheriff. He was recognized for serving the county for 27 years and took time to thank his staff and explain a little about how the department has changed. “I hired Ron back in 1992 as a deputy,” County Chairman Don Taylor said “It has been an interesting last 27 years and nine months in Burnett County law enforcement,” Sheriff Ron Wilhelm said. “In that time I have worked virtually every role in the sheriff’s office. For that, I am very, very grateful and I hope that I’ve been able to serve the citizens of Burnett County because it has been an honor.” Wilhelm said he has a tremendous amount
