SIREN––Sandy Clark, the Shelter Manager at the Faith House Shelter in Siren, said a WHEDA grant of $7,500 is “like a million bucks to us.” She said the money will go towards replacing the ramp in front of the shelter, fixing the front deck, replacing flooring in the office and replacing kitchen cabinets. The Faith House in Siren, located at 7764 W. Main Street, provides shelter for homeless families residing in Burnett and surrounding counties. The facility can support two families at a time. Their goal is to promote self-sufficiency by providing a safe and secure environment, giving individuals the opportunity to overcome unresolved issues. Through education, individuals are encouraged to be responsible for themselves and others. During their 30-90 day stay they identify any immediate needs and develop a housing stabilization plan for the family. Brian Schimming, of Wisconsin Hous-
The Siren Police Department is looking for information regarding several calls they received about gunfire last week. “The Siren Police Department is looking for information from anyone who may know about illegal activity that occurred on Nov. 13 during the times of 6–6:20 p.m. on 3rd Ave. in the Village of Siren,” A press release stated from the Siren Police Department. “This area encompasses 3rd Avenue from County Road B to Lofty Pines Drive. We had received numerous calls of someone discharging a weapon on 3rd Avenue.” Chief Sybers said they were on scene within moments of getting the call but they could not locate a
suspect. Witnesses told Sybers they heard about 12 shots and he believes they were fired 15 feet apart while driving down 3rd Avenue. Police found eight casings from a 9 mm firearm. The only damage they found was a couple of holes in a garage. “I couldn’t even reach them,” Sybers said. “So it must’ve been 10 or 12 feet from the ground.” Tribal PD and the Sheriff’s Department are also assisting with the case. “Tribal was great, they went around and helped with canvassing the area,” Sybers said. “We must have walked the road three or four times that night looking for anything we could find.” Anyone with information on this activity, please contact the Siren Police Department at 715-349-7181.

Bremer is the Administrative Director for the Salvation Army serving Burnett, Polk and St. Croix counties. The Faith House is part of the Salvation Army. The grant is given out by the WHEDA Foundation. Grants awarded statewide during the WHEDA Foundation’s annual Housing Grant Program competition help housing providers build new facilities or make improvements to their existing facilities. “The grant money will be put to very good use as the shelter is going to replace a handicap ramp and also make much-needed cabinet and counter upgrades,” said Schimming who presented an oversized check at the announcement. “Vital improvements made to affordable housing for the neediest of the needy, and valued construction jobs are created as grant recipients hire contractors to
