Davis Aerospace & Maritime High School 1st Floor

General Benjamin O. Davis Jr., born on December 18, 1912, in Washington, D.C.,

was a distinguished African American military officer renowned for his commitment to excellence.

Despite enduring racial discrimination, he excelled academically at the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1936.

Throughout his career, Gen. Davis exemplified exceptional leadership, particularly as the commander of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. Under his guidance, this African American fighter pilot group achieved remarkable success. The Tuskegee Airmen escorted and protected Allied bomber formations, earning a reputation for their skill and effectiveness. Their outstanding performance in combat helped challenge racial stereotypes and contributed to the eventual desegregation of the U.S. military.

In 1954, Gen. Davis made history by becoming the first African American General in the U.S. Air Force. His legacy continues to inspire individuals to pursue excellence in their careers and to confront societal barriers and prejudice.

His life embodied principles of honor, courage, and unwavering commitment to duty, leaving an indelible mark on the history of the U.S. military and the ongoing struggle for civil rights and equality in America.

Gen. Davis attended Cleveland public schools from approximately 1917 to 1929.

The award that students will receive is called a “Benny” in honor of our school’s namesake.

The Invitation Mahari-Lynn VanPelt

Hannah set up a camera for her daily live. Just as she was about to start the live she got a strange message from someone she didn’t recognize.

“I wonder who this is from,” Hannah questioned “oh well I’ll respond after the live.”

Hannah began her live and people began commenting. The comments were all saying the same thing,“HELLO HANNAH!” Hannah looks at the comments and thinks “why are all of my followers so boring?” She is reading all of the comments until one in particular catches her eye.

“Hannah, would you like to go to my party?” The commenter asked.

“Uh yeah I’d like to go to your party,” Hannah replied. “dm me more information about it and I’ll keep in touch.”

“Omg ok this all feels like a dream,” the commenter said, “I will dm you after the live!’’ Hannah begins talking to the other fans once more. After a few hours Hannah got a call from her manager and had to end the live.

“Hello Hannah,” said her manager, “I have been informed by the staff members that you openly told a fan you would go to their party.”

“Uh well yeah what’s the problem,” Hannah questioned “what’s the worst that could happen?”

“What’s the worst that can happen,” The manager exclaimed “you could get seriously hurt or worse, you never know what people’s true intentions are, expect the unexpected.” Hannah hadn’t thought of that but she assumes that since sense it’s one of her followers she has nothing to worry about.

“We have nothing to worry about,” Hannah says with confidence, “my followers would never hurt me.”

She was positive that her followers would never hurt her. However her manager wasn’t too sure about that in fact she was very scared for Hannah’s safety but she tried to push her feelings down to keep Hannah happy. She never acted like a manager but more like a background friend, she thought that if she acted like a friend to hannah she would trust her opinion more, turns out she was wrong, very wrong.

“I’m done with this conversation now,.” Hannah said as she began to hang up the call. Hannah was tired of her manager always trying to tell her what to do.

Little did Hannah know her manager was just looking out for her but Hannah is too stuck up to notice anyone around her.

“Hannah you can’t just hang up on me,” her manager exclaimed, “Hannah listen to me–.” Hannah hung up the phone and placed her phone on her nightstand.

She then stands up and walks to her living room.

“Why does she think she can just boss me around,” Hannah questioned “my mom doesn’t even boss me around like that.” The doorbell rings and Hannah looks at the house maid.

“Oh miss, I didn’t know you were expecting a guest.”

She says as she opens the door “I’m not–”Just as Hannah finished her sentence she saw the house maid fall to the floor with a puddle of blood underneath her dead body. Someone walks into the house. It’s a man wearing all black holding a weapon,just as Hannah looks at the man she shoots out of her bed in a frantic manner with her manager sitting by her side.

“Hannah are you ok?” her manager asked with a concerned tone. She just looked at her manager confused. “Hannah,” her manager snaps, “are you ok?”

“What happened,” Hannah asked, “why am I in my bed now?”

“You passed out right after starting your live” Her manager explained “but hannah you need to tell me, are you ok” Her manager looked very concerned for her.

“Yea i’m fine,” Hannah mumbles “so it was all a dream?”

“What,” asked her manager, “Hannah, if there is something you need to talk about I’m always here.”

“Yeah yeah i know” Hannah says while getting out of her bed. Hannah’s eyes widened as she remembered the message from earlier “Where is my phone,” Hannah shouts “I need to see if it was real.” Hannah looks around frantically for her phone until her manager waves it in her face.

“Hannah, here is your phone calm down, What is going on with you?” Hannah takes her phone from her managers and urgently scrolls through her messages. Once she finds the unopened message she just stares at and is hesitant to open it. “Hannah,” her manager paused for a moment before speaking again, “I don’t think you should open that message, leave it for the staff.’

“I need to open this, I need to know what it says.”

Hannah explains. Hannah’s manager didn’t fight her on this, instead she just left Hannah alone.Hannah watches as her manager leaves the room once gone, Hannah opens the message as she is waiting for the message to open and loads she walks around her room in anticipation. Once the message is done loading, Hannah begins to read.

The message read, “Hello Hannah, I know you do not know me but I know you very well. I have been following you for a long time and I was wondering if you would like to come to my party?”

Hannah looks for a moment wondering if she should tell her manager about this. “What she doesn’t know won’t kill her.” Only if Hannah knew she would soon wish she told. Hannah replies to the message “I will see what i can do for you.” Hannah hesitates to hit send but she does. “Maybe i shouldn’t have done that,” Hannah thought, “well it’s too late go go back

now.” moments later Hannah got a message from the same person.

The message reads “OMG! I DID NOT THINK YOU WOULD REPLY!” Hannah reads the message and smiles “Of course I would reply,” Hannah replied “and after giving it some thought…” Hannah pauses and thinks for a moment. She hears her manager’s voice in the back of her mind “Hannah, I want you to always remember that dreams have meanings and sometimes the dreams come to life.” Hannah’s manager always told her that keeping what her manager said in mind she continues with her reply.

“After careful consideration I have decided that I will make sure that I go to your party.” Hannah sends her reply and gets a quick response “Omg I didn’t think you would actually go! Oh yea my name is Lizzy by the way.” Hannah reads this message and repeats the name again “Where have I heard this name before?”

Hannah walks out of her room and sits on the couch in her living room just as Hannah sits down someone knocks on the door and Hannah looks at the housemaid with a terrified expression.

“Oh miss I didn’t–” Hannah is very quick to cut her off.

“No, I am not expecting anyone,” Hannah shouted “so whatever you do don’t open that door!” The sound coming from the do that was once a knock has now turned into a loud bang. Hannah jumps back and looks at the house maid. She then picks up her phone and calls her manager. “Hello.” said Hannah’s manager in an angry tone.

“There is someone banging on the front door of my house right now.” Hannah whines. Her manager goes quiet for a second before taking a deep breath.

“Well hannah, you would know it was me if you OPENED THE DOOR!” shouts her manager. Hannah stops for a moment and then hangs up the phone.

“Open the door,” Hannah says to the housemaid.

The housemaid opens the door to see the manager.

“Hello,” Hannah says “I have something important to ask you.”

“What could that possibly be Hannah?” said her manager. She sounded very annoyed, but who wouldn’t be after bangging on a door “Actually nevermind it’s not important.” Hannah says as she runs off to her room for the night.

A few days later at 6:03p.m Hannah gets a message from Lizzy “HEY HANNAH! THE PARTY IS TONIGHT DON’T MISS IT AND DON’T BE LATE,” Lizzy texted “the party begins at 7:30p.m and the address is 1234 Applebees road hope to see you soon.” Hannah reads all of the information and begins to get ready for the party.

“Ugh, I have nothing to wear to this party,” Hannah complains “maybe this is the universe’s way of telling me I shouldn’t go to this party.” Hannah shrugs it off and continues with her make-up.

“Hannah,” shouted the housemaid from downstairs “there is someone here to see you! The housemaid waits for Hannah’s reply.

Hannah thinks of everyone wanting to see her right now. She walks down to see a tall man wearing all black in her living room. She tries to look at his face but it is covered by a mask. “Uh, can I help you?,” Hannah asks “why are you in my house right now?”

The man looks up at Hannah and pulls out a camera.

He takes a picture of Hannah and leaves the house.

The housemaid runs after the man but he is too quick for her and he gets away. Hannah shrugs it off and goes back up to her room and finishes her make-up.

Lizzy texts Hannah at 7:00 saying “30 minutes until the big party don’t be late!” Hannah reads the message and begins thinking “She seems like a timelylike timely person.” Hannah picks out an outfit for the party and heads out the doorout door. As Hannah starts her car a feeling on guilt overcomes her, she doesn’t know exactly what she should be guilty about so she shakes is off and starts driving. As Hannah getsget closer to the partyto party she feels as if she turnsturn around but she doesn’t and keeps driving. Hannah is now 5 minutes away when she looks at the time and she notices that it isis is now 7:42 so she speeds up.

Once Hannah gets to the party it is 7:47 so she hurries out of her car and runs to the front door. “I hope she’s not mad because of how late I am.” Hannah knocks on the door.

Lizzy opens the door “This better be her ‘’ Lizzy mumbles. Lizzy looks up at Hannah and flashes her a warm smile while opening the door more to let her inside “Hey Hannahhannah, glad you could make it.” Lizzy watches as Hannah walks in, after Hannahhannah is inside she closes the door and locks it. Hannah looks around the party and sees lots of people just having fun. Lizzy watches Hannah from a distance. Lizzy waitswait until Hannah gets to the drink table to go and say something. Hannah stands by the table as Lizzy slowly creeps up behind her with something in her hand. When she finally gets behind Hannah she stops and stands there with the object in her hand. Hannah finally turns around to see Lizzy.

“You nearly scared me to death Lizzy,” Hannah yells “why are you just standing here?” Hannah looks at Lizzy waiting for an answer but Lizzy just stares at her. Once Lizzy finally opens her mouth to say something she shows Hannah a cup. The cup is full of something Hannah doesn’t know what.

“Hannah I got this drink just for you.” Lizzy said.

Hannah takes the drink from Lizzy and takes a sip.

“Mm this is good,” beamed Hannah “what is it?”

Hannah continues to drink the liquid in the cup.

“Oh it’s just something I whipped up just for you.”

Lizzy told Hannah. Lizzy watches as Hannah drinks.

“I wouldn’t drink too much of that if I were you,” Lizzy advised.

“Why is that?” Hannah asked. Hannah stops drinking worried about what Lizzy might say.

“Oh no reason, you just wouldn’t want to get full off of just liquid now would you?” explains Lizzy.

“Yeah makes sense I guess.’’ Hannah agreed. Hannah walks away to enjoy the party more and Lizzy follows closely behind her. A few hours later Hannah starts to feel dizzy and Lizzy notices something is wrong.

“Hannah, are you ok,” Lizzy asked. “You look like you are about to pass out.”

“Uh yeah, i’m ok just a little dizzy that’s all” answered Hannah. Hannah’s face is now turning pale and she slowly passes out, and as Hannah passes out Lizzy catches her.

“Finally, that took forever.” Lizzy laughed.

Lizzy carries Hannah to a dark room and ties her to a chair. She leaves her in there and goes back out to the party. “At least all of this wasn’t a waste of money” Lizzy groned.

Hannah wakes up just as Lizzy walks back into the room. Lizzy turns on a small lamp just bright enough to see Hannah and for Hannah to see Lizzy. “What are you doing and where am i?” Hannah asks.

“You don’t need to worry about all that Hannah.” Lizzy insisted. Lizzy gives Hannah a warm smile, the same one she gave at the door when she let Hannah in. She then walks over to a brown wooden table and turns on a lamp revealing different weapons.

“Now go ahead and take your pick.”

Hannah looks at Lizzy with a worried look. “Are you gonna use those on me?” Hannah stuttered.

“Well of course I am silly, why else would I tell you to pick one.” Lizzy giggled “You know Hannah,” Lizzy started “you should never go to a stranger’s house let alone by yourself.” Lizzy stares at Hannah’s worried face. “Now come on Hannah you did this to yourself. Expect the unexpected, isn’t that what Mia always told you?” Lizy questioned Hannah and looked confused by the name Mia. “Oh come on Hannah you must know Mia, she’s literally your manager Hannah, you can’t be this self centered.”

Lizzy shouts “Of course I know Mia, but how do you know that?”

Hannah whispered. Hannah looks at the table and then back at Lizzy.

“Do you remember when I told you that I followed you for a long time? You may have thought I meant on social media,” Lizzy explained, “but that’s enough chit-chat time to get to business.” Lizzy yells“Now Hannah, which one do you want me to use?” Hannah gives no response. “Ok well i’ll pick then.” Lizzy pauses for a moment before picking one up. Lizzy then walks to Hannah. “Don’t make this hard for me

hannah.” Lizzy advised Hannah hears the music from the party still going.

“So you’d really do this with all those people out there?” Hannah asked.

Lizzy looks confused, “what people?” she asked.

“All of the party guests,”Hannah replied. Hannah looks at Lizzy with a look of confidence. Now Hannah is sure she will get out of there alive.

“Oh Hannah there are no guests,” Lizzy explained as she opened the door. “It’s amazing what a smoke machine, a projector and some mannequins can do, isn’t it Hannah.” Lizzy watches as Hannah’s face turns from confidence back to worry. “Oh what’s wrong Hannah, you were just so confident a second ago.” Lizzy asked. “As a matter of fact I really don’t care.” Lizzy said as she stabbed Hannah.

Lizzy stabbed her over and over. Now Hannah is dead. Lizzy walks over to a computer and opens a document and types “This is why you should never accept The Invitation.” The end.

Cigarette Ashes

Yaimarye N. Esquilin Sosa I took a drag of my cigarette; eye cast off into the city.

Each puff I took pulled me further away from the taste of your lips, the feeling of your skin against mine. I felt dirty loving you; it's what you always told me anyway.

“Tsuki.” A voice called from behind me, making me jump and look back.

“Ah, Yes?” I responded, looking back at the voice. It was Taiyo, My husband.

“What are you doing up so late? Come back to bed,” Taiyo pleaded with me; I tapped my cigarette to let the ashes fall off the balcony.

“After this cigarette,” I responded, looking away from him once more.

“Tsuki..” Taiyo whispered, walking up to me and wrapping his arms around my waist. I felt my skin crawl. His touch, His breath against my skin, His smell. Oh, how he made me feel like I was everything.“Alright, I'll come back to bed,” I whispered as I lowered the cigarette from my lips and into the ashtray, pushing the head down to extinguish the fire.

“Thank you, darling,” Taiyo purred, dragging his hands off my skin. I felt butterflies build up in my stomach, his hands dragging me away. We got into bed as Taiyo pulled the sheets over our naked bodies, shielding us from the cold room.

When the night turned to day, I woke up to an empty bed, my body heavy as stone. I turned to my left to see the small area where the sheets were ruffled; Taiyo left. I willed myself out of bed and walked out of the large, empty, cold bedroom and towards the bathroom. I removed my white shirt and underwear as I stared into the mirror; the bruises and cuts I had all over my body made me want to smile. Taiyo says they suit me. Taiyo says it's what I get for being a faggot, I guess he’s right. I sighed as I brushed my finger against the bruise on my ribs and winced at the pain, I removed my hand and just got into the hot steaming shower. I let the water fall on my face through my hair; I needed to get this shower done quickly to finish my household chores because I knew Taiyo would be angry if I didn't. After I finished my shower, I dressed in a white shirt and basketball shorts. I began to clean the house, cook dinner, and wash clothes. Taiyo got home earlier than expected

and he was angry that I wasn't finished with the household chores.

Tiayo angrily bellowed, “What were you doing this entire time here?!”

“I just woke up late! I'm sorry!” I insisted as I backed up against the wall. Taiyo came closer, grabbed my wrist, and pulled me to the ground.

Taiyo’s voice was full of anger and venom as he spat out, “I told you I wanted your household chores done before I came home. Even if that means I'm early.”

“I'm sorry! It won't happen again!” I pleaded, pulling my wrist back out of his grasp before he kicked me in the gut. As tears streamed down my face, he walked away, and I hugged myself. He came back after a few minutes, kneeled, and wiped the tears off my face, shushing me.

“I'm sorry,” Taiyo whispered sweetly. “I just got angry, you will forgive me, right?” He asked, brushing the hair off my face.

“Of course..” I whispered out barely inaudibly as I took in his touch. Oh, how I loved the feeling of his hand on my face. I grinned up at him as he grinned back.

“Come on, Sweetheart. You need to finish dinner so we can sit down and watch a movie,” Taiyo purred out, a tint of happiness and caring in his eyes.

“Okay..” I whispered as I began to sit up, I sniffled softly.

“Come on, I'll help you up,” Taiyo offered, smiling down sweetly at me. It's like he just completely forgot what he did, but so did I. I grabbed his outstretched hand.

“Thank you..” I mumbled out with a smile as he helped me pull myself up. He dusted me off leaning over and kissed behind my ear.

“There..Do you forgive me?” Taiyo murmured in my ear. I felt butterflies build up in my stomach as my breath caught.

“O-Of course..” I whispered out, my voice breathy.

Taiyo smiled behind my ear and leaned back to stare at me in the eyes.

I took a puff from my cigarette, drowning out the memories from today. My eyes cast off over the lit-up city, I tapped the cigarette and the ashes fell down the

balcony. Taiyo came up behind me with a towel on his waist after showering for the day, “Hey, Tsuki, Why are you up so late? Shouldn’t you head to bed so you can wake up at the right time tomorrow?” Taiyo asked, crossing his arms at the entrance of the balcony.

“I will, After this cigarette,” I stated again, just like yesterday. This time I didn't turn around to face him, I just stared off into the beautiful city before me.

“Turn around when I talk to you,” Taiyo snarled out, threatening me indirectly. I quickly turned to face him, slightly shaken by his aggressive voice.

“A-Ah..Sorry, dear. I was-..Distracted,” I explained, my eyes staring into his. His dark brown eyes pierced into my soul.

“I don’t care, Come to bed. Now,” Taiyo barked at me, rolling his eyes as he began to walk away into the darkness. I sighed as I put the half-finished cigarette into the ashtray and put it out. I walked into the darkness, walking into the large and mostly empty bedroom, and sat on the edge of the bed with a sigh.

Taiyo looked at me and crawled over to sit behind me, leaning his head against my neck.

“I'm sorry, darling. I didn't mean to get angry at you,” Taiyo expressed, kissing my shoulder softly. I sighed out at the feeling of his soft lips against my bare shoulder. He always knew how to make me feel better, He always knew where I would be weak enough to deny his apologies or requests.

“It's alright, Taiyo...I forgive you,” I sighed before I felt my hair being pulled back. I yelped out as Taiyo snarled into my ear, “I told you I don't like it when you call me by my name.”

“Ow, Ow! I'm sorry! I forgot!” I howled out, tears swelling my eyes. He let my head go and I quickly rubbed the area where he pulled my hair, sniffling slightly.

“Just go to bed,” Taiyo barked out as he lay down. I did the same with a slightly quiet sob, laying my head on the pillow I let myself be carried away into sleep, I just wanted to forget what happened. He did love me, He loved me dearly and I know it…Right?

The morning welcomed me with the warm sun rays hitting the sheets, and the birds sang outside. It was agood day. I check the clock and almost cried; it was only 8am. I willed myself out of bed and into the bathroom to get the day started. If I finish early Taiyo won't be angry at me. I was happy at the thought of Taiyo not being angry at me. I hurried up to get

dressed and began to clean and cook. I was finished by 2 pm, Which was near the time Taiyo got home.

I served him his food and sat down on the couch to wait. I waited and waited..and waited. He wasn't home yet...It's peculiar, but that's alright; he might have gotten stuck at work. Something had happened, but that's alright. I'll just wait some more!... 2 pm turned to 8:00 pm, and I stood up. Ill smoke a cigarette after taking a bath and go to bed. He’ll be back soon!

I did what I was told I was going to do. I took a bath and got into underwear. I stepped onto the balcony and lit my cigarette, watching the driveway for his car.

No luck. I finished my cigarette and walked towards the closet to wear a jacket to the police station. I was met with two bloodshot eyes, and I shrieked. A body fell from the closet, and tears fell from my eyes as my body shook in horror. I grabbed the jacket and ran out.

Taiyo’s rotten corpse laid on the floor, dried blood on his head from a gunshot wound.

King of Fighters SS Return of Iori Yagami

A young brown -haired fighter named Kyo Kusanagi lived in the gritty city of Eldoria, where illegal activity danced in every alleyway and slum. His heart bore fire and tales of a shattered past, his eyes held the weight of unspoken struggles. In the arena, every punch, kick, and flame turned into the dance of Kyo’s destiny. Kyo and his signature leather coat were very popular in the dark urban chaos of the arena. Putting heart into every fight they even mirrored his inner thoughts and feelings: a clash between hope and despair.

A cloaked man comes walking through the arena greeting Kyo at the entrance. Amidst the smoke-filled air of a dimly lit underground arena the two get into the arena, Kyo is now face to face with his toughest opponent yet – A purple-flamed adversary known only as “The Phantom.” Kyo recognized the flames, and as a thick fog slipped through the area a twist of fate would unravel his most tightly guarded secret.

The Phantom, was a long-lost friend from Kyo’s dark past Iori Yagami, seeking retribution for a betrayal buried in the wreckage of his once merciful heart.

“Glad to see you.” Kyo scoffed at his adversary, then the man took off his cloak showing off his red hair and crescent moon. “Same to you!” Iori shouts out before lunging at Kyo. “Tsuki ga anata o mitsumeru!”

Their flames collided and every attack turned into a dance of agony and regret, “This isn’t the way Iori!”

Kyo scrambled for words as Iori continued to attack.

Kyo was distraught not only with his opponent but also with the shadows of his actions. In the final moments, Iori loses the fight and flees the arena “This isn’t over Kyo,” Iori shouts “I will avenge Vice and Mature!” Kyo emerged victorious. The crowd’s cheers transformed into a chorus of redemption, and Eldoria’s streets seemed to exhale a collective sigh.

The conflict within Kyo mirrored the city’s journey

– a perpetual struggle, yet resilient in the face of adversity.

Kyo stood victorious but knew the true battle was not over. He was a bright beacon of hope in the city’s heart, but not to himself or his lost friend. Eldora had found a hero in the most unexpected of places, but he hadn’t found the hero in himself.

“Till next time, old friend.” Kyo stammers to say as his eyes begin to tear up knowing that things will never be the same between them.

“Are you sure you want this?” A voice says from the shadows. “He will pay for what he has done!”

Iori reassures knowing the consequences that might follow. A dark figure named Adelheid Bernstein jumps from the shadows “Make this quick because that Ash Crimson kid is next! Iori states before the two rogues go and look for Kyo. As they run off a man in a crimson and maroon coat watches from a distance.

Adelheid and Iori head back to the arena only to find Kyo sitting alone rethinking his past. “I’ll handle this,” Iori states as he moves forward to his old sullen friend. “This fool wasted my time, he’ll pay for this,” Adelheid whispers to himself “I have other things to do than this nonsense.” The rogue walks from the area and walks back into the shadows. Kyo notices his old friend walking towards him. “Watashi no ishi de moero!” Kyo shouts and launches a wall of fire at Iori.

“On your feet, show me what you got!” Ordered Kyo as he got into his fighting stance. “Like old times eh?” Iori chuckled and got into his stance. “I’m in!”

Iori declared and jumped at Kyo, the two fighters kicked and dodged each other for what seemed like an eternity. “I haven’t gotten rusty,” Kyo snickered, “But

you still can’t beat me, Orochi no chikara o kanjiru!”

Iori grabs Kyo and gives him a hard head butt then gives him a purple flamed punch.

Kyo dusts himself off and gets back up, The two laugh like they are best friends again. “Iori about the accident, I’m sorry for your loss. I know they were like family,” Kyo admits and looks down at the ground. “Don’t be Rugal was the one responsible for their demise, we just couldn’t stop him.” Reassured Iori as he put his hand on Kyo’s shoulder. “We need to get a team together to stop him,” Kyo announces “I’ve been paying attention to Ash and K’ they show interest in my cause.” Iori looks irritated and groans “Please don’t tell me it’s that Crimson kid.”

“Yup, so you in?” Kyo eagerly asks with a smirk.

“Fine but after we’re done he’s mine,” Iori proclaims in a reluctant tone. “Ash won’t get away with the Yagami Jade Core for long.” Kyo laughs and shakes Iori’s hand. “I don’t care about that, just glad to have you back my friend.” Iori and Kyo walk out of the alleyway and see the guy in the crimson and maroon coat who turns out to be Ash Crimson. “So where to first Kyo?” Ash giggled and smiled at the two. “Ugh let’s get this party started already.” Iori groans and the three guys run off into the city all eager to find the elusive and powerful Rugal Bernstein.

As the 3 run off Kyo feels as if his past has finally been redeemed. “Our pasts may be rocky but let’s change our futures!” Ash announces as he powers up his green fire. “Indeed let’s show him that this isn’t over!” Iori proclaimed. “This is going to be fun!”

Kyo exclaims. The three fighters run and become fully powered up and near their destination which will shape their destiny. “Ima sugu min’na issho ni” Kyo shouts as the three jump into Bernstein manor ready for the fight that will shape their destinies.

Real-Terror Dylan Rogers

One day, a real estate agent named Amber was checking a house out on Mayfield Rd before the client arrived for the showing. While in the house she hears footsteps. “What’s that?” she whispered to herself. The footsteps suddenly stopped, “Hello?

My name is Amber, and I’m a real estate agent. I’m supposed to be doing a showing here. If you hear me please come out!” she announced, but no answer. She continued observing the house. She thought nothing of the mysterious footsteps but something still felt off.

She decided to wait for the client, do the showing, and then go home. She knew in her head that someone was watching her, she wanted to leave but leaving would mean she wouldn’t get paid. The footsteps continued, with each step sounding closer and closer, until eventually they stopped. Amber turned around, she saw a tall figure standing right in front of her, the figure drew a knife Amber backed up the figure raised the knife while stepping closer. Amber backed into the bathroom, and fell into the bathtub, the figure climbed on top of her, raised the knife, and stabbed her.

4 days later A phone rings, it’s an unknown number, a woman answers “Hi am I speaking with Tyese?” “Yes this is Tyese, who are you?” Tyese questioned. The woman on the other line responded, “Oh I’m sorry, this is Sarah from Howard Hanna. I’m calling to see if you were available to do a showing at 2981 Mayfield Road?” It shows that you are the listing agent and I am sure my client would be so excited to meet you; she follows all of your fabulous posts on your social media blog. “I think I’m free. What day?” Tyese answered. “I was thinking about next Monday. Does that work for you?” Sarah advised. “I’ll have to check with my manager, but I think Next Monday will work,” responded Tyese. “Great! Sounds good, have an amazing day.” Sarah exclaimed. “Thanks, bye.”

Tyese ended. Then Sarah hung up. Tyese continued driving. When she got home, she called her manager.

“Hey Dylan, do you know if I’m free next Monday?”

Tyese asked. “You should be free. May I ask why?”

Dylan asked. Tyese responded, “I have a showing to go to and I wanted to know if I had any meetings or anything like that.” “Nope, your schedule looks clear, although you do have a meet and greet on Wednesday, don’t you need time to rest?” Dylan questioned. “No, I still have Tuesday to get rest. And it’s only a quick showing, it should only take 20 minutes.” responded Tyese. “Alright. I’ll be sure to remind you the day before.” Dylan responded. “Alright, I guess I’ll see you soon. Bye.” Tyese ended. When the call ends Dylan turns on his favorite show, Grey’s Anatomy.

About 20 minutes into the show, it’s interrupted by a breaking news report. The reporter is on the scene of a house on Mayfield Road, there is police tape and police cars everywhere. Dylan is immediately invested in what’s on the TV. the reporter stated “A realtor has gone missing, she was last seen at the house behind me. A search party has begun and South Euclid police have deployed dogs, helicopters, and over 250 people. The reporter further reports, “The police have searched the house from top to bottom and have found nothing. They don’t think she was murdered in this house and the owner has requested that the house remain open because she wants to sell it. If you have any information about the whereabouts of Amber Rogers, please contact the South Euclid police department.” then a picture of Amber appears on the screen. Dylan then turns off the TV and quietly mutters to himself, “I need a coffee break.” Then he gets in his car and drives to Starbucks.

He arrives at his favorite Starbucks location and orders his usual, vanilla latte with almond milk.

The baristas already know his order by heart because he only changes it in the fall. Once he has his drink he sits down and opens his laptop, he starts editing a vlog for Tyese’s YouTube channel. As he’s editing he notices his friend from high school. He waves her over and they start talking. “Hey Kyra, long time no see!” Dylan starts. Kyra responds, “Hey how have you been?” “I’ve been really good. And what about you?” Dylan asks. “I’ve been good. Work is tiring though.” Kyra mentioned. Dylan giggled, “I

understand that. Working with influencers is not as easy as it seems.” “Have you heard about the missing realtor?” Kyra asks. “Yeah, it’s really sad I hope they find her.” Dylan responded. “Don’t you work with a famous real estate agent?” Kyra asked. Dylan soon responded, “Yeah but I don’t think she will go missing.” “Oh. I have to go” Dylan alerted while looking at his watch. He then quickly grabbed his laptop and drink then rushed out. Dylan then arrived at the Cleveland Heights library and rushed into the meeting room. Once he got there he said “Hello everyone. Sorry I’m late, I lost track of time.” An Adidas representative then beamed, “It’s ok, we’re just glad that you could make it. This meeting should only take a few minutes. We just want you to sign this contract regarding our brand deal.” The representative then passes Dylan the contract and it reads in bold letters at the top “Adidas Brand Deal” Dylan then quickly scans the contract, pulls a pen from his briefcase, and signs his name next to the spot where it says “Manager” after that he passes the contract to the representative. “Alright, that’s it. Thanks for your time and your business.” The representative says with a smile. “No problem, is there anything else?”

Dylan asks. The representative exclaims “Nope if you don’t have any further questions then you’re free to go.” Dylan then ends with “I don’t have any other questions, I look forward to working with you.”

“Great and I’m looking forward to working with you as well” the representative states while opening the door. “Bye.” Dylan says as he walks out of the meeting room.

While Dylan is in his car, he calls Tyese but she doesn’t answer, so he leaves a voice mail, “Hey it’s Dylan. I just met with the representative for Adidas and I signed everything so we are all good for the brand deal.” then he hangs up and drives home.

Tyese is at home playing with Zaire. When she puts him down for his nap she listens to her voicemail from Dylan. She then sends him a text saying “Hey I’m sorry I couldn’t answer your call. But I’m glad you got the brand deal all sorted out.” Once she sends it she lays down and quietly mutters “I’m so tired.” after a few minutes she eventually goes to sleep.

1 week later

Tyese pulls up to the house on Mayfield Road.

She notices that the house looks a little weird. She puts this behind her however because she knows she will only be there for 20 minutes. She then calls the client to let her know that she’s at the house. The client says, “Just go in I’m only 10 minutes away.”

Tyese then says, “Ok I’ll see you inside.” While walking up the path to the front door, she gets a news notification, that reads “Kyler Harris has been placed into South Euclid police custody for the alleged murder of Amber Rogers.” While reading this she remembers that the realtor was last seen at this house.

That creepy feeling that she had while in her car was all of a sudden coming back. She rushes back to her car and then closes and locks the door. She then calls Dylan but he doesn’t answer. She then sends a text in all caps saying “SOS” Dylan then calls back saying “I’m driving, what’s up?” Tyese says in a frantic tone, “I’m at the house on Mayfield, and I’m very nervous.

Can you come here and stay with me while I do this showing?” “Yeah, I’m right around the corner. I’ll be there in a minute.” Dylan says in a concerned voice.

Tyese, sounding relieved says, “Thank you so much.” then hangs up the phone. In 3 minutes, Dylan pulls up right behind Tyese’s car. He then gets out and knocks on her window. Tyese is startled at first but realizes it’s Dylan and rolls down the window. “Hey. Thanks for coming on such short notice” Tyese sighed. “No problem, where is the client?” Dylan asks. “Not here yet, but she will be here in a couple of minutes.”

Tyese responded. She then exits her car and walks to the house door while saying, “Stay in your car. I’ll text you if I need anything.” Dylan didn’t respond because Tyese was already at the door.

Tyese reached the door and opened the lockbox then removed the house keys. She unlocked the door, opened it slowly walked inside, and muttered “Here we go.” while in the car, Dylan decided to make sure everything was ok so he rushed inside after Tyese. Tyese notices him and then asks “What are you doing, I told you to wait in the car.” Dylan then responded, “I wanted to make sure everything was ok.” Then a car pulls into the driveway and Tyese frantically says, “That’s the client. You have to go, now.” Dylan doesn’t respond but just quickly heads toward the back door, as the front door is being opened. “Hey you must be Tyese, it’s great to meet you. I’m Tynnetta.” Tynnetta says happily. Tyese shakes Tynnetta’s hand and says “I’m

Tyese and I’ll be showing you around the house today.” Tynnetta then walks further into the living room and suits the door behind her, she also makes sure to lock the door without Tyese noticing. Tyes then says, “This is your living room. It also connects your kitchen. As you can see you have plenty of space for a TV, couch, and coffee table all in the same room.” As Tyese is talking about the living room space Tynnetta slowly grabs a knife cleverly hidden under the countertop. Tyese doesn’t notice this because she’s writing down what she has to go over. While all of this is happening, something in the garage has caught Dylan’s eye. He moves to investigate but he dosent notice the door closing behind him. As he moves closer to the strange object, he realizes it’s a cardboard box. He quietly mutters “Why is a box here? This house should be empty.” he opens the box and sees multiple knives with blood residue, and fake ID cards, and plans to kill more well-known realtors. Dylan immediately knows what’s going on, he rushes to the door, but it’s locked. He texts Tyese “GET OUT NOW” but no answer. He tried the door again but it still wouldn’t budge. He panics. He figures the only way to get inside is through the front door. He sprints there, desperately trying to get inside before anything bad can happen. He reached the door. Tried the knob but it wouldn’t move. He pulled out his phone and sent the same message to Tyese “GET OUT NOW” he sent it 3 more times but still, no answer. Dylan felt defeated. He knew the only way to rescue Tyese was to call the police. However, he knew that the sound of sirens would set the client off. Then he saw it an opportunity. An open window. He rushed to it climbed in and heard a big thud. His heart skipped a beat, he ran to the source of the sound and saw Tynnetta standing ove Tyese with a knife he lunged at her being able to force her down and free the knife from her grasp. They wrestled on the floor, franticly trying to overpower each other.

Tyese’s point of view As she moved further into the house Tynneta kept being so nice to her. She would ask “How’s being famous.” “How’s being a new mom” Tyese thought that Tynnetta was genuinely a nice person.

She kept showing the different aspects of the house, such as the beautiful bathroom tiles and the new hardwood floors in the downstairs bedrooms. Then

it was time to head upstairs and show the rest of the house such as the master bedroom and bathroom.

While on the stairs, she feels her phone buzz in her pocket. She decides she will look at it later. While she’s inside the master bathroom her phone buzzes 3 more times. She still ignores it however but shortly after she feels something hit her head then she feels something sharp on her back. She turns around to find Tynnetta with a knife. She panics. She can’t move she tries to scream but Tynnetta covers her mouth before she can make a sound. Then she’s knocked down and tied up. “Who else is here!” Tynnetta shouted angrily.

Tyese didn’t respond. This further angered Tynnetta.

She then was taken down from behind. Tyese noticed that Dylan had come to save her. For a moment she felt relieved. Then scared she realized that she had to help him. She managed to reach the knife and cut herself free. She rushed over to help Dylan.

They fought and fought until eventually, Dylan managed to subdue Tynetta. Then he shouted, “Call the police!” Tyese immediately gets her phone and calls 911. “2981 Mayfield Road! Someone tried to kill me and my manager! I have her subdued but I need the police NOW!” Tyese shouted franticly. Then she hung up and said to Dylan “The police are on their way!”

Then, in a fit of rage, Tynnetta jumps up and pushes Dylan against the wall. But dylan doesn’t back down he springs into action and pushes her out of the window. Tynnetta falls to the ground. Then Dylan and Tyese rush to the window as they hear sirens approaching the house but there’s a problem. Tynnetta is nowhere to be seen.

Trapped

Johnsel Roman & Miguel Garcia On a bright morning, two men named Carlos and Juan headed out on boats looking for adventure.

They get on a boat and go far to catch tropical fish, hoping to find some incredible fish they can take back and sell. “Do you have the cages?” Carlos asked, “Yeah, do you have the lures?” Juan questioned.

Carlos nodded. “Good, start the engine.” Juan directed. Carlos starts the boat, and they find a good spot to settle down and fish. While Carlos prepares the lures, Juan throws down cages to catch lobsters and crabs. Carlos throws his line, places his fishing rod on a stand, then sits back and waits for a bite.

Carlos feels his fishing rod get pulled and seizes onto it before reeling in a fish. “Nice catch!” shouts Juan. “Have you caught anything in the cages yet?”

Asked Carlos. “Just two lobsters look like they were a family,” Juan exclaimed. Juan begins playing with the two lobsters in the cage, moving the cage violently while smiling. “how much do you think we’d get for this?” Juan asked, “Probably not much.

You should release them and wait for something more valuable.” Carlos suggests. Juan dismisses Carlos and suggests they trap more creatures for profit.

A heavy storm slowly approaches, and the two men begin putting away their equipment, intending to head home, but heavy wind and rain shake them violently. Their equipment knocks over, and the two lobsters in the cage escape. Carlos focuses on ensuring they keep their equipment, but Juan simply attempts to recapture the lobsters. Before they can accomplish anything, their boat flips, and they end up stranded on an island while unconscious. Carlos wakes up worried, and he begins looking for Juan.

“Juan!?” Carlos shouts, “Juan, where are you!?”

Carlos sees a figure on a broken piece of the boat floating near the island. “Juan?” Carlos yells. Carlos begins swimming towards an unconscious Juan and brings him towards the island.

“Where are we?” Juan questions, “We are stranded somewhere? I think it’s an island.” Carlos explains. Carlos and Juan begin looking in the crash site, hoping to find some of their food. Instead, Juan and Carlos find a weathered stone with random scratches and shapes etched onto it. “What do you

think made that?” Carlos asked, “Do you think it’s a bear?” “Really? A bear is what you could come up with.” Juan remarked. “I’m just giving possibilities,” Carlos exclaimed. Juan and Carlos venture further into the island and see more symbols on trees and stones.

As they go further into the forest, they see many dead animals tied to posts. Worried, they both decide to set camp in an open area. As the sun set, it began to rain, and Juan and Carlos collected sticks and leaves to build a small shelter. Carlos sees a shadowy figure in the forest attempting to give him a signal as they begin to rest.

Juan wakes up feeling ill and cannot get up.

Carlos attempts to help Juan stand up but is too sick to move. Carlos begins to venture further into the island, but as he walks further and further, he notices they aren’t on an island but on a large, connected body mass with a 7ustown near their wreck. As Carlos runs back to tell Juan, he sees him lying on the ground, with flies buzzing above, realizing his friend is dead.

--**Narrator:** *(Present time, on a drive to Ava’s grandparent’s house)* Car pulls into Ava’s grandparent’s driveway. Ava and Ava’s dad get out of the car. They walk into the house.

--**Narrator:** They all sit down at the table.

--**Mike:** *(to Ava’s dad)* Ava. --**Ava’s Dad:** Yes? --**Mike:** I have brought you here to your grandparents to help you pick what you want to do for your future.

**Grandma Ava:** Whatever you want to do, that’s fine with me.

--**Mike:** Ava, I want you to go to Atp. --**Ava:** I know Atp looks cool, but art school seems more fun.

--**Mike:** Is this what it’s about? Fun? I want you to think about your future. I went to art school, and it was fun, but I wish I went to flight school. I made a big mistake. Sure, I’m a good artist, but I wish I could fly airplanes, not do art.

--**Ava:** I have a lot to think about.

As soon as she picks up the phone she hears a high pitched voice that sounds like a fork scratching a glass plate. “Hiiiii Bella! How’s it going it feels like you’ve been distancing from me ever since you’ve started obsessing over that boy or whatever which reminds me i’ve been meaning to tell you that sophomore year we were messaging each other and i think he totally still has a thing for me so just to be safe i don’t think you should get too attached love just saying!” She babbles. “Nice to hear from you too Abby,” She says in a monotone voice. “Well jeez you could at least act happy to see me but it’s okay i forgive you.”. “I’m so grateful,” Bella mumbles. “Oh yeah uhm have you seen Mrs. Gales lately? Jenny says you have split ends on your split ends and that it looks so bad she thinks you need to be checked out.The boys think that you’re a total butterface and youre a pain to be around. You’re honestly depressing they say. And everyone else just thinks you’re highly embarrassing. You’re really just one giant laughing stalk.” Bella claps back in an instant responding “Maybe that’s because Jennys mom owns a salon and they’re probably going bankrupt from what I’ve heard, so I bet they’re DESPERATE to save someone from a case of split ends on their split ends. She checks her phone to see no notifications. She then continues with her normal morning routine feeling off, then catches the school bus. She stays outside for a while on school grounds due to anxiety. Once she’s gained enough confidence, she starts walking towards the school entrance. She sighs. “Definitely has something to do with the little disagreement I had with Abby. I should’ve just kept my mouth shut.”.

Monty walks up to Bella with a tray of school breakfast in his hands. “There have been rumors going around about you all morning. Where is all this coming from?” Monty questioned. “Me and Abby got into it on the phone yesterday, so I kind of got myself into a small predicament.”. “No problem with Abby Khadabie ends up being small. You know she’s not gonna stop until she makes your life a living hell right?” Monty responds. “I had it coming to be honest. I thought about it and still spoke.” Bella says. “Maybe you should try apologizing?” suggests Monty. “Hard no.” says Bella instantly. “You’re right.

That’s not enough. Your family should invite the Khadabie’s over for dinner to make a compromise with your family’s labor for all eternity.” says Monty.

They start giggling and Bella shoves him jokingly.

Then she snorts, causing even more laughter. Then comes Abby and she struts by while side eyeing them.

They both stop laughing and Monty clears his throat.

“Did you see that?” says Bella. “Yeah. I could feel her

glare almost burning through me.” Monty says. They chuckle then hop back on track.

“Know what? I’ve got nothing else to lose at this school. I meant what I said to her when I said it.

School has now ended, and they run into each other at the bus stop. “Hmmm. What’s something we could do that would drive Abby Khadabie absolutely feral?”

Bella asks. “We’ve gotta figure out a way to kick her off of the top of the hierarchy.”. Monty states. “No duh. How would we execute that though?” Bella replies. They sit there for a few seconds in silence until Bella breaks it by asking “Oh yeah. Did I ever tell you how me and Abby got into a disagreement?”, to which Monty replies “No actually, tell me”. “I was telling her how I wondered where your mom was so I could ask her for some extra credit math work, long story short she said no, so I said i’d just ask you since were already on good terms and I guess she felt some kind of way since I got the attention of a boy she couldn’t for once in her life”. “Wow. How immature.”

Monty responds.

“Maybe she wanted to ask me to homecoming” he adds. “Omg that’s great!” says Bella. “Please don’t tell me you’re thinking of making me go to homecoming with Abby, because if that’s the case I’m sorry I’m out” he says in a monotone voice. “NO! Of course not that’s purgatory right there. I was thinking we could go to homecoming together, you know as friends?”. “Oh my gosh Abby would throw a hissy fit!

Skip to the day of homecoming and Bella and Monty show up just as planned, and of course Abby. Bella plots. “Alright so, we know every year Abby signs up for homecoming queen right? Well we’ll do something to steal her spotlight. Just wait until they

see lil’ ol’ me dancing with the popular loner of the school”. “Oh stop you’re making me blush” says Monty. “Welp, there’s Abby. Let’s fall into plan.”.

They request the DJ to play a slow song and start slow dancing on the dance floor together, right in Abys’s field of view. Her friend group and associates around her start surrounding her almost instantly notice the change of expression on her face from pride to anger. She storms out with black tears running down her face from her mascara.

After the dance Bella and Monty become close friends and everyone continues to gossip about Abby and her pitiful incident.

A Bottle of Wine Mikeah Velasquez

~Katherine’s POV~ It’s been a while since I last saw him. It may have been my fault, but he was also to blame. I bought a bottle of wine and poured some into my wine glass, hoping I’d be able to get him off my mind. But it didn’t work. I have kids to take care of, but my state of mind is nowhere capable of taking care of them.

These kidneys are killing me slowly. I called my sister, but no help. It’s 7:40 am and the kids have to go to school. I woke them up and took a shower.

I drove them to school and waved them goodbye.

Maybe if I had stayed, he would still be here with me.

I miss him being with us, as a family. I got my wallet and some more stuff to go grocery shopping. As I pass by through an aisle at the grocery store I walk past some of my old friends. They saw me and ignored me. I wouldn’t blame them, I’d do the same thing if I saw myself. I continued walking through the aisles.

I suddenly saw him, Michael, my ex-husband…But he’s with someone else. How could he move on so damn fast? He sees me and starts walking towards me while my body freezes. Why can’t I move? I hate the way he makes me feel. I hate the way I still love him.

He walks towards me with a beautiful young woman.

I could never compare to her, she’s everything a guy would ever want. They stop and we’re facing each other. ~Convo~ Michael: Hey Kathrine, this is Emma, my girlfriend.

We talked for less than five minutes. I couldn’t bear to see him moving on. He thought after 3 months of leaving he could just act as if he didn’t damage me and his kids, and yet introduced me to his new girlfriend? But I can’t get him off my mind. It was

quite nice seeing him again, to be honest. I checked the time and it’s already 3:00 pm. It’s time for me to pick up the kids. As I picked them up I asked Lydia and Ethan how their day went, and they said it went well. I told them that I saw their father at the grocery store earlier with his new girlfriend. They shrugged it off. They said they didn’t care, they knew all the damage he had caused to this family and I thought they’d probably care about him since he’s still their father, but they didn’t. I’m the only one who still cares about him...

We get home, the kids go to their rooms and do their homework while I cook dinner. I took out a wine glass and poured wine into it. As I was drinking I started remembering the good times I’ve had with my kids. I love being their mom, It brings me back to reality. I finished cooking dinner and called them to eat. We all finished eating and decided to watch a movie. As they decide what movie I start cleaning.As I’m cleaning. I suddenly feel my chest getting tight. I breathe in and out hoping this anxiety attack leaves, but it only makes me feel weaker. Five minutes went by and it finally stopped, I finished cleaning and headed to the living room with the kids hoping they didn’t see me have an anxiety attack. We watched a movie and then headed to bed, but I couldn’t sleep. I poured myself some more wine, It’s already halfway through, and I should buy some more later even though I shouldn’t, because it will make me get worse, but there’s no point in trying to get better if I have my lifetime limited.

I headed to my bathroom and turned on the jacuzzi.

I filled it up with bubbles, I love them, they’re so beautiful. They make me feel at peace. I got in and read my favorite book “Stop Pretending by Sonya Sones”, she’s got real talent. Time goes by and it’s already 3:00 am. I headed to my room, an empty room.—an empty room with memories, and an empty bed that has pillows filled with tears. As I get in bed, I start spacing out thinking about the times we were happy, and the times we went through hell. How could I still miss him after everything he has put us through? I remember trying to be tough and mean

towards him so I could move on but I still cared about him and failed. I barely had any sleep, it was already morning.

I woke up the kids and got dressed, I made them their favorite pancakes. I took them to school and then headed to the hospital for my checkup. My chronic kidney disease got worse, it’s on level 5, and I’ve only got a little bit of time left. I got home and poured some wine into my wine glass. It was almost Lydia’s 16th birthday. I picked them up and asked Lydia what she would want for her birthday. I took them to our favorite restaurant, so we could talk about what she wanted. I forgot when was the last time we had this much fun, I love them so much. We got home and headed to bed. We were all so exhausted but it was worth it.

A few months pass by and it’s March 6th, Lydia’s birthday. We surprised her with tickets to a Bruno Mars concert. She was so happy she almost cried. We sang our hearts out and had so much fun. One more month goes by and it’s Ethan’s 15th birthday. We took him to a Bad Bunny concert. He was so happy, we were all able to even take pictures with him. Once we got back home, my doctor called me. They said I only had one month or even less to live. I couldn’t hide this from the kids anymore, they needed to know. I tried hard to stay strong for them, I tried doing everything I could do to get better for them. So I told them that I had chronic kidney disease level 5 and that I only had one month or less left to live. They hugged me asking if there was any way I could get better. It was killing me inside telling them that there was no time left and that it was too late to get a kidney transferred.

I decided to call Michael and tell him so he could take care of the kids when I’m gone. He agreed, but it was now time for me to tell the kids. I told the kids about it and they didn’t mind. I was honestly surprised at their response, but either way, there was no other option. I told them how proud and grateful I was for them. I went to my room, took out pieces of paper, and wrote a letter for Michael, Lydia, and Ethan for once I’m gone. As I wrote while drinking some wine I remembered this one quote my ex-mother-in-law had told me. I smiled, she was the mother I had never had, she was my everything. I wrote the quote in Lydia’s letter, I wanted her to read it at my funeral.

Two weeks passed by and I had gotten worse, I was like a toothpick. I was at the hospital 24/7 Lydia and Ethan would check on me after school while Michael would check on me in the mornings. It was already

April 27, and Lydia and Ethan came with Michael.

Ethan and Michael went to get something to eat while Lydia stayed with me.

As I started feeling my chest get tighter my breaths got shorter. I tried with all the strength I had left to tell Lydia that I loved her. As I saw her look worried, my heart suddenly stopped. ~Lydia’s POV~ I heard her say “I love you” with weak eyes.

I started crying and panicking, hoping she was just playing with me. However, there was still no response coming out of her. I suddenly hear the beep going straight, and my heart drops. I called my dad and brother, choking on my tears trying to tell them to get to the room because she was gone. The doctors came running while I was standing frozen, in a corner crying. I know me and her weren’t that close, but she always tried to make us happy. The doctors gave me three letters with each of our names. Mine was the only one saying to open at the funeral. My dad called the funeral home and they approved him for the 29th of April.

It’s April 29 and I get ready to head to the funeral home. Once we all got there, every single person my mother had ever known showed up. I was in shock when I saw the big crowd, but I was also happy because each one of them was able to have my mom in their lives. As Ethan finishes his speech I get up and open my letter. As I read it out loud it said...

“Lydia, if you’re reading this, I have passed away. I want you to stay strong for your dad and brother, they need you, and each person in this funeral needs you.

I remember when your grandmother told me the quote “Life is short so make the best out of it.” And that’s what I did. I know I haven’t been the best mother, wife, friend, daughter, or sister, but I’ve given my all to try and be there for each one of you. Lydia don’t you ever think that you mean nothing, you and your brother meant the world to me, and if I could still be there with you guys I’d do anything to be able to. But everything has a purpose. I love you guys with all my heart. As I finish this letter, I want you guys to make a toast to life. -Love, Mom” As tears flowed down my face I took my mother’s favorite wine glass and the wine she had almost finished and made a toast to life. That bottle of wine lasted the same amount of time that my mother had left to live, and today at her funeral I finished so she could live in peace. I love you, Mom.

“Grant! Dinner’s ready,” his mother yelled for him to come eat. “Sweet!” Grant said to himself, just quiet enough to keep his mother from hearing his excitement. “Okay,” he shouted in response.

However, that excitement was short-lived as his face dropped when he saw what was for dinner. Grant had been expecting something more extravagant considering that Thanksgiving was only about a week away. But he was once again greeted with the same slop his mother had made for him the last 5 days. He had just returned from school and was catching up on some work. All he wanted to do was sit down, relax, and eat a hot meal. He grabbed a fork, sat down, and pushed his food around in disgust. “What’s wrong sweetie, not hungry?” his mother asked. Of course, he wasn’t, at least not for the food that sat in front of him. He had been eating the same meal for 5 days straight; he was unbelievably disappointed. Still not wanting to be rude Grant replied, “Yeah, I think I’m just gonna head up to bed.”

Grant’s mother knew something was wrong and had a good idea what exactly it was but she also knew there wasn’t much she could do about it knowing money and the loss of her husband had been a struggle she just wanted her child to be happy.

On the next day, Grant woke up and immediately felt lightheaded tumbling down the steps as if he was trying to hop down them on one leg “Grant sweetie come downstairs for a moment” his mother yelled.

“Coming” Grant replied in a tone that made it seem as if he was his mind was awake but his body wasn’t.

“Can you go out and grab some milk I’m making a Thanksgiving feast!” Grant’s eyes grew with excitement, “Really?” he asked in disbelief, Grant put on his coat and headed right out the door as he approached the store he saw a young girl who wore torn and patchy clothes with a puffy black coat as she sat there crisscrossed a man in a similar attire approaches the girl “ẗhat must be her father?” he said to himself” it was apparent to him that they

were homeless and then the man spoke, “how are you darling?” he said to her with a smile on his face “I’m alright papa” replied the girl “Cold I bet.”

They both chuckled as he stated the obvious “hear I brought you some gloves and a heating pad” he said as he sat down next to the girl “Aww, why papa? You should´ve used that money for food” she said while looking at her dad with a smile that spoke the same words “I know but what good is food if you’re too cold to enjoy it” he replied “I guess you right, thanks papa” she said while chuckling “I´ve got one more surprise for you as the dad reached behind him and pulled out a pre-made roasted chicken. The daughter’s eyes lit up filled with excitement she thanked her father over and over she went in for a giant hug as they both laughed and enjoyed the food with joyous tears in their eyes.

Grant now on the verge of tears had realized how selfish he´d been the other night at dinner at that moment the only thing he could think of was going back home and giving his mother a giant hug he rushed home tears falling from his face he looked through the window and saw his mother humming while grabbing something from the cabinets he ran to the door as it swung open his mother tried to turn around and before she knew it her waist tightened she looked down to see her son crying and holding her as hard as he could “what’s wrong?” his mother asked. “I’m sorry mom I know our situation isn’t ideal right now but you always try to make sure I have everything I need and I realized that’s more than enough and I love you,” Grant replied with tears uncontrollably falling down his face. “I love you too,” his mother said still a bit in shock whipping tears from her eyes. “What about the milk?” his mother asked. “Oops, I forgot” as they both laughed with tears slowly drying from their faces.

Having completed finals last week, Tom drives back to his parent’s house, excited about the upcoming break. After pulling into the driveway, Tom gets out of the car, grabs his bags from the trunk, and walks up to the door. As he knocks on the door, Mari Tom’s mother opens it, excited to see him, she screams, “Tommy, my sweet boy!” As she hugs him and brings him inside, she tells him all the things that have happened since he has been in college. Tom looks around and asks, “Where is Dad?” Mari looks at him nervously. She hesitates and exclaims, “He’s busy at the moment working in the shed.” Tom looks at her confused, but he pushes his curiosity away and responds, “Oh OK then where is Evelyn?” Mari points at her room, and Tom walks into her room.

Evelyn was doing her homework when she looked up at Tom, she yelled in excitement “TOM!” She jumps up and tackles, hugging him, making them both fall to the floor. Tom hugged her back and,“ Hey there, what you’ve been up to since I’ve been gone?”

Evelyn replied “Nothing much I’ve just been doing my work in my classes,” Tom remarks “Don’t forget to-” Evelyn groaned cutting him off staying. “Yeah, I won’t forget to study anyway. What are you doing here this early?? I thought you were supposed to be at college still?” Tom replies, “I got early dismissed from college.” Tom gets cut off by Mari yelling, “Dinners Ready, Come Eat!” Tom and Evelyn both rush to the dining room to eat.

After dinner, Tom goes to the basement to wash some sheets to sleep on, when he’s finished cleaning he heads up to his old room walks over to his window and peeks out in the back. Tom looks around in the backyard and sees the backyard shed and thinks to himself, “It doesn’t look like Dad is back there, it doesn’t even look like someone’s been back there for a while.” Tom looks closer at the shed and sees some movement in the shed. He jumps back from the window in shock. “What was that!?”, he thinks to himself. Tom walks back to the window and looks out it again, but there’s nothing back there. Tom questioned, “What was that real? Or was I imagining things?” Tom sits down on his bed and lays. He stares

up at the ceiling, contemplating if he saw something in the shed or if it was just his imagination. Tom stays up at night, curiosity peaking every hour, until he can’t take it anymore and sneaks out through the back to the shed. As Tom approaches the shed, he can hear some light clanking of metal inside. As Tom walks to the side of the shed he hears talking inside the shed then he went to peek inside. When Tom is about to look inside, he is startled by a noise in the bushes, so he rushes back inside. The house locks the backdoor and runs up to his room. Tom runs to his window, and he peaks outside to look for the cause of the noise. He sees a squirrel and sigh’s “I’ll just check it tomorrow, Tom whispered.” He lays down on his bed and falls asleep.

The next day Tom heads downstairs and walks into Evelyn’s room and looks around for her, but she’s nowhere to be found, Tom looks around her room and notices how messy her room is and mutters, “Look at the queen of clean.” Tom leaves Evelyn’s room and walks into the kitchen, where his Mom Mari walks in the house with a big garbage bag and red dripping from it. Tom sees her and shouts “Hey what’s that mom?” Mari turns to Tom and responds, “Nothing, why are you awake?” Tom replies, “I just woke up and what do you mean nothing??” Mari interrupts snapping back stating, “I said it’s just nothing, stop pushing it” Mari walks away, leaving Tom confused. He walks to the kitchen and looks out the back window, seeing his mom walk inside the shed with the black bag. Tom watches her confused and whispers to himself, “I have to see what’s in the shed”. Tom walks back up to his room and starts planning how he’s going to get inside the shed. He stays up all night making plans to figure out what his mother is hiding from him. Tom makes plans till dinner time and when he finishes dinner he puts his plan into action.

Tom grabs his flashlight, his phone, and his car keys and sneaks out the back to the shed. As Tom approaches the shed, wondering what could be in the shed, Tom opens the shed, shining his flashlight

inside the shed. Tom looks in horror as he looks HELP SEEING THE TRUTH SEEING THE LIGHT around in the shed, seeing dead bodies! Tom walks AND I’LL SHOW YOU* Mari Starts the chainsaw inside the shed, walking around, looking at the cut and starts running at Tom and Kayon full speed, Tom up bodies. As Tom walks towards the back of the and Kayon run away outside the shed towards the shed, he’s seeing the bag his mom carried through house once inside the lock the back and front door the house. Tom walks towards the bag and opens preventing Mari from getting inside. it, and Tom is horrified. When he opens the bag he sees his father cut up in piece’s Tom looks away and Tom runs to Evelyn’s room to get her. When he pukes after seeing his own father diced into piece’s. reaches her room Evelyn is sleeping so Tom rushes After Tom’s stops puking he looks around seeing over to Evelyn and wakes her up. Tom whispers in a “Tom, why are you awake and why are you shaking scared pace, “Mom Is A Maniac!?” Tom walks up to ” Tom replies “No time to explain come with me.” a body bag and opens it, He looks at the person in Tom picks up Evelyn and runs to his room locking the body bag, slowly realizing who this was. It was him Kayon and Evelyn inside his room. Tom pulls out his old friend Miky, Tom then starts freaking out his phone and dial’s the police. Tom explains on the millions of thoughts crossing his mind like “Is this phone what happened and the address of the house what happened to Miky!?” “I’ve always wondered but as Tom is explaining the front door gets kicked where she went when we were in high school!” As in by Mari in a hurried panic Tom runs to his dresser their thoughts are racing in his mind, he sees in his and pulls out a weapon to defend him, his sister, and peripheral a room. Tom thinks to himself for a while Kayon. Tom waits in his room for either the police to and takes pictures of the inside of the shed for the come or his mother to come to his room, for a long police as evidence. Tom advances further into the minute it’s quiet until Mari comes to Tom’s door, shed, looking for more evidence to give to the police. lightly knocking on it in a calm tone saying “Open up, The same word crossing his mind he wants to ask it’s me your mother Evelyn” Evelyn tries to open the his mom, it repeats and repeats the same one word door but Tom stops her saying “Don’t Mom is trying “Why?” As to trick you” Tom gets to the back of the shed he sees someone tied to a chair, still breathing. He rushes over to the chair and taps the person, questioning “Hello, can you hear me?” The person in the chair slowly wakes up and mutter’s “Hello? W-Where am I?” Tom explains the situation the man is in and introduces himself, the tied up man starts freaking out screaming YOUR MOTHER IS ONE SICK INDIVIDUAL.” Tom covers the man’s mouth, making sure no one hears him especially his mother. Then Tom whispers in the mans ear “Look I’ll get you out of here just calm down now what’s your name?” The man calms down and replies, “My name is Kayon, what’s your name?”

Tom replies, “I’m Tom now, let’s get you out of here.”

Tom unties Kayon and they both head for the exit but before they leave they’re stopped in their tracks. The shed door opens revealing Mari with a chainsaw in her hands and a crazed smile Mari yell’s “Son what are you doing in here!? Tom shouts “I know what you have been doing you’re insane mom you need help.”

Mari roared “I DON’T NEED HELP YOU NEED

Evelyn sits back down not trusting Mari after hearing Tom warn Evelyn Mari starts screeching in a high pitch tone sounding like an Insane person and starts banging her fists on the door. After a while of beating on the door Mari screams out “I’M DONE SINCE YOU WANT TO BE BRATS, IT’S TIME TO PUNISH YOU BRATS” Mari grabs her chainsaw again, starting it, then starts it cut the door open.

When Tom realizes he has no other choice but to fight her back until the police arrive, he hides Evelyn and Kayon in his closet and face’s his mother. Mari gets finished cutting the door open and kicks the remaining of the door open. She cackles and points at Tom with the handkerchief on his hand covering something and shouted “WHATS THAT GONNA DO TO ME A HANKERCHIEF HURT ME?” She starts laughing uncontrollably. Tom stands tall, stalling for time responding “Don’t get closer or I’ll be forced to use it” Mari still laughing yells “WHATS THAT GONNA DO TICKLE ME?” Mari advances towards Tom making him back away, Tom turns around seeing the blue and red lights pulling up to the house and

when Mari takes notice to this she gets angry and snarls at Tom saying “YOU CALLED THE COPS ON YOUR OWN MOTHER!? YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF SINCE YOU’VE BEEN BAD I SHOULD PUNISH YOU” Mari steps closer but before she could get closer two police officers rush into the house running to the room aiming their guns at their screaming “DROP YOUR WEAPON AND HANDS IN THE AIR” Mari turns to the police and back at Tom she sigh’s in defeat and drops the chainsaw and immediately is dropped to the floor and put in handcuffs, One of the officers brings Mari to the police car while two other police officer’s arrive and walks to Tom and Evelyn one of the officer’s walks up to Tom and says “Hello there my name is Dani and my partner is over there is Laylah” She point behind her at the officer who is inspecting the shed Dani looks back at Tom “Im here to ask questions and get your side of the story you three need to come with us, Tom looks back at Kayon and Evelyn and waves them over to the car Tom, Evelyn, And Kayon walks over to the car and gets inside as they pull of Tom looks back at the house one last time before leaving these bad memories in his past and moving on with his sister and soon to be friend in the future.

I was so terrified to go to school that day. Just as I turned the corner, I saw mean boy Milton. He said,”Is that orphan boy Asher?”I wasn’t feeling it today,so I walked away and got on the bus instead.I feel like an orphan boy when someone calls me that. Because I wasn’t always an orphan. When the bus arrived at the school,we were given the option of going to breakfast,so I went straight to class when we got off the bus. I walked in the classroom and the teacher greeted me “hey Asher how are you?”I’m doing good Mrs.Harris how about you? Mrs.Harris replied”I’m doing good asher. ”As the conversation ended I started to walk to my seat and get started on my work.

Then 10 minutes later the bell rang. It was time for class to start.

When mean boy Milton walked in late,the teacher asked “Milton do you have a pass?”Milton replied no,Mrs.Harris. The principal or the office has to be contacted when you guys are late.Milton replied,I know. I was here,but I was in the restroom and the bell rang when I was leaving,making me late.

I apologize for being late,Mrs.Harris.Mrs.Harris replied,it’s ok Milton,just come to me next time so I’ll know you’re here. The teacher began teaching and Milton walked to his seat and sat down. When the teacher began teaching,Milton threw paper at me,but stopped,then he started to throw paper at me again.

I walked out of the classroom,went to my locker,got my things,and left because I was tired of being bullied

by Milton and whenever I complained the bullying would only get worse.

My coat and money needed to be brought if I was going to leave for good, so I sneaked into the house to get them. I got what I needed and left the house without looking back. Without knowing where I was going,I just started walking. After a while,I got tired of walking,but there wasn’t anything to sit on,so I kept walking until I found something to sit on. As I kept walking,it began to rain,so I had to stop and put my coat on. Now I was looking for a shelter so I wouldn’t be wet,so instead of finding something to

sit on,I decided to go to a homeless shelter .However,I didn’t know where a shelter was and didn’t know where to go to find one. As I kept walking down the road I found a homeless shelter I walked in and the lady said “Hi I’m Jessica, how can i help you?”Since I do not have anywhere else to go,I would like to stay here. The lady said “yes you can stay here but what is your name?” Thank you so much,but I am Asher,do you guys have showers? Yes we do have showers here they are this way. I got out of the shower and ate,then brushed my teeth and got ready for bed. The next morning, I got up, brushed my teeth, and showered.

After I got out of the shower, I got ready for my day, ate breakfast, went and got my things, and started walking, not knowing where to go. I’m not sure if I should go back home or just find somewhere to stay and never return.

The Tournament

Shaneaqua Barrett, Nevaeh Johnson, Perriona Means In a small town in Texas, every year the school had this thing where a few st were picked from a school near the end of a year. Sarah and Angela were two best friends. They always wanted to get picked to go to the tournament but they never did. This year they did everything they could to get picked.

“If you don't believe that you can then you won't, if you believe then there is no chance we will lose,” Sarah assured Angela. I LOVE THIS!

Sarah stood confidently, “I have a good feeling we got picked, are you ready to see?”

The bus came to a halt and then there was an announcement heard and everyone looked out of their windows.

“We are now at the annual sports tournament of the year, there will be a total of 8 teams, those teams will compete for their school to see who earns the gold medal and more. You will be teamed up with people from your school, we will start in 20 minutes, take this time to learn about your teammates and make a plan.”

“If we don't, I swear I'm gonna be upset. This is what we have been waiting for so long,” Angela crossed her arms.

Sarah laughed then they both went downstairs, looking at a group of people surrounding the roster, as they squeezed past everyone they were shocked to see their names at the top of the list.

Angela sighed before smiling warmly, ”Okay, you're right, we will win!”

“I can’t believe we actually got picked, this might actually be the best day ever,” Angela was ecstatic.

“The other buses will start showing up soon, so everyone if you would kindly follow me,” A random staff member from the school spoke, “And if you can't handle that stay on the bus and you will be sent back to the school, with that being said,” He turned around and walked off the bus. People started to quickly stand and follow him, only very few staying on the bus.

Angela seemed a little nervous but kept moving with the group, trying to keep a good pace to stay with her friend that was walking quite fast.

They entered a stadium, the ground was all grass with a few work out items lined on the wall.

“Yeah but remember we have to stay focused and engaged if we want to win this tournament,” Sarah reminded.

Sarah started to seem a little nervous herself now, “The game is about to start so get ready it seems like we have a race first, that should be simple enough.”

Angela smiled confidently, “Alright I'll try my best!”

Angela smiled confidently, “We can do that easily with our eyes closed!”

Angela leaned forward and looked for their names.

“We did it! All that hard work really paid off.”

Sarah smiled, “I'm so excited!”

They started to celebrate. The announcements turned on not so shortly after, calling everyone who was picked to gather outside and onto the bus.

They made their way outside and onto the bus. After 20 minutes they arrive at a big open field with other kids from other schools there.

Angela sat down and took a moment to look around, “There’s a lot of kids here. Do you think we’d be able to win or at least get second place?,” She started to get nervous.

Sarah shook her head, “Except it’s a three-legged race so everyone will have someone tied to their leg to the finish line.” “oh… well I still think we can do that,” Angela scratched the back of her neck.

“Yeah definitely,” Sarah rolled her eyes.

After all the teams tie their legs the race begins.

Sarah and Angela were last to go, the team was in third place at the beginning but once it was there time to go it was hard and not all the teams were playing fair, some would try to knock people off balance or break their ties.

By the end of the race they managed to carry their team and came in second place. In each game the players that come last will get eliminated and they choose if they wanna stay or if they wanna leave after they get eliminated.

After two more games the games got harder. The next game was paintball and capture the flag. This will test their skill in speed and reaction. This could also put friendships on the line, we will find out later though.

It’s Too Late Collin Alford

Months after my brother Charlie went missing I constantly went into his room hoping to find out what or why he never came back im Ben his younger brother, but now i'm starting to believe him and what caused him to act the way he did, He was always known as nice and fun, someone you would love to be around but days near the disappearance he began to rant and worry some creature named the slenderman would come for him.

Meanwhile the sun started to fade and we all grew impatient. We all instinctively knew it was time to walk back but I could tell we all felt something was wrong when we heard screaming in the distance. As we began running I could've sworn I saw Charlie standing there but I could tell it wasn't him as if whatever it was that kept calling my name wanted me to get closer “Ben” the creature kept yelling in the distance as me Bray and Cody ran back to the cabin.

I still remember how much he cried that it would be better if he didn't stay because it would get us all. I don't know why but my parents thought it would be a good idea to send him on a camping trip over the summer to “get his mind off of it." They thought he was just overreacting and said it was more than likely just a prank since our neighborhood always had teens our age doing stuff like that.

When we got in the cabin we locked the doors and took a moment to breath as we were understandably freaked out as we were not risking walking back to the car or worse never making it back to see sunrise.

We all were freaked out but we decided that sleeping in was the safest option but that was short lived when Cody asked "did you guys also see some tall faceless figure?”

After I finished telling my two friends, Bray and Cody i then ran it up with telling them i will be going to the camping site to find Charlie.

And in that moment my heart dropped and I knew we needed to leave immediately.

My friend Cody insisted he and Bray come along with me to find my brother but Bray was hesitant concluding he was more than likely already gone but we promised it would only be a one night search.

Later on we drove to the silent and dead camping site i could tell we all felt an eerie chill as we got closer Once we were there that chill slowly faded away and we all agreed we would set shelter in the cabin before it gets dark.

When we went in it was your typical cabin but it felt so strange and I couldn't get the feeling that we were being watched out of my mind, As we all got comfortable we began to start the search. A couple hours past and we get no luck whatsoever then we came across some dirty and very uncomfortable looking paper that said “Don't look or it takes you” as expected we were all doubting if we should continue but us being far from home and already at a point where we can’t just leave we mustered up the courage to keep on looking.
