‘Change’ improves things from the way they were before to the better way. “Times change, things change” is a common saying, but when we properly think about it, it’s not common at all. All the KMS change makers expect good results from this institute. The Board of the School, the teachers, the staff members, and the students, as well as the parents, are making a team for changes.

Everyone has expectations, which in each person are different according to their roles and responsibilities. Some expect the prosperity of their business; some expect their children to be good people and study well; some expect their students to be good and happy people with

a successful life; some expect a good life and good earnings for themselves and their family; some expect to study well and have a chance to join their beloved activities. To achieve their expected goals, everybody must make changes, cooperating and supporting each other, to change for the better, as well as maintaining a positive attitude to keep up with the changing era and technology.

Do you think you have the courage to start the change? Give consideration to what you want to change. You can start with your own self, setting goals for what you want to change for the better and finding an appropriate way to make yourself change. Take action, make changes, be patient, and focus. Sometimes, you may have to prevent yourself from the old habits. Change your perspectives, think differently, and believe in yourself that you can do it. Changes are not easy to make, but it is never too late to start making changes. I always cheer on all of you for every change.

ต่อมาใน พ.ศั. 2510 ท่านยี่�ายี่โรงเรยี่นเขมะสริอนุสสรณ มาทีฝ่งธนบร ซื้ึงใช�เงินจัานวินมากในการก่อสร�างโรงเรยี่น อาคารเรยี่น สีชันสองหลััง ตึกพ้นศัรีเกษม ชลัอเร้อนท้ลักระหม่อมมหิดลัประทาน มาเป็นห�องสมุด พ.ศั. 2515 สร�างสระวิ่ายี่นามาตรฐาน จััดตังสโมสร วิ่า ยี่น าช้�อ “เขมะ ส ริสโมสร” ม นัก กีฬา วิ่า ยี่น า เ ข� า ร วิ มการแ ข่ง ขัน กีฬาสาคัญ ๆ ระดับภั้มภัาค แลัะระดับโลัก จันได�รับรางวิลัมากมายี่ ทาให�โรงเรยี่นเขมะสริอนุสสรณมช้�อเสยี่งเป็นทีร้�จัักในด�านกีฬาวิ่ายี่นา แลัะโรงเร ยี่นเขมะส ริอนุสสรณยี่ังเป็นโรงเร ยี่นแรกในประเทศัไทยี่ ที�สอน “ระบาใต�นา” ในสมยี่นัน แลัะสร�างพระร้ปอนุสาวิรยี่์หม่อมเจั�า พ้นศัรีเกษม แลัะหม่อมเจั�าหญิงศัุขศัรีสมร เกษมศัร สร�างอาคารเรยี่น สามชันต่อจัากเร้อนนอนของนักเรยี่นประจัา อาคารอเนกประสงค 1 แลัะ 2 ใน พ.ศั. 2525 โรงเรยี่นเขมะสริอนุสสรณ์ครบ 50 ป ได�สร�าง หอประ ชุม ศัุข ศัรีสมร แ ลั ะใน ป พ. ศั . 2535 ส ร� างอาคารอ นุสสร ณ

ท่าน จัึงเ ป็นผู้้� ที ศัิษ ยี่์เขมะ ส ริฯ ทุกคนค วิ รใ ห� ค วิ ามเคารพ ยี่ ก ยี่่อง แลัะระลัึกถึงพระคุณท่าน หม่อมราชวิงศั์ทอรศัร (เกษมศัรี) คงจัาเนยี่ร ถึงแก่อนจักรรม วิันที 21 พฤษภัาคม พ.ศั. 2542 โรงเรยี่นจัึงกาหนด ใ ห�วิัน นี�เ ป็น วิัน ส าคัญของโรงเ ร ยี่ น วิัน ที ศัิษ ยี่์เขมะ ส ริฯ ใ ห� ค วิ าม ระลัึกถึงพระคุณท่านเสมอ แลัะให�เรยี่กวิันสาคัญนีวิ่า “วัันทอร์์ศร์ี”

M.R. Torsri Kshemsri was born on Saturday, April 30, 1927 at the palace of H.R.H. Prince Divakaravongsepravati, Khao Road, Samsen District. She was a daughter of H.S.H. Prince Poonsrikasem Kshemsri and H.S.H. Princess Sooksrisamorn Kshemsri. Her six siblings were (1) M.R. Phongphunkasem Kshemsri, (2) M.R. Prempriman Kshemsri, (3) M.R. Thommayanti Kshemsri, (4) M.R. UbhaiKasem Kshemsri, (5) M.R. Phunsuk Kshemsri, and (6) M.R. Torsri Kshemsri.

Starting her primary class until graduating from Matthayom 5 at Khemasiri Memorial School, M.R. Torsri Kshemsri was a loving and unarrogant person, which made

all her friends love her very much. She was talented in cooking Thai food and Thai desserts, especially Khao Chae, the recipe of which she received from her grandmother (Mom Lamai Kshemsri Na Ayutthaya). Her ability to cook was second to none. (On her birthday, April 30, she would make Khao Chae by the recipe for her guests every year.) With great support from her father, H.S.H. Prince Poonsrikasem Kshemsri, who was a genius in Thai classical dancing, music, and drama, M.R. Torsri Kshemsri, along with her sister M.R. Phunsuk Kshemsri, was trained by royal teachers to perform a blessing dance in the School events, and so were many KMS students. Since then, it could be said that the teaching and training of the performing arts have been inherited by all of the KMS students. Later, M.R. Torsri Kshemsri continued her study at Triam Udom Suksa School and then, the Davies School, England. After graduation, she came back to help her parents work at Khemasiri Memorial School. She became an English teacher after the death of her mother on December 16, 1944. She, as a classroom teacher of her niece Ms. Kalayani Chakshuraksha, worked and did everything like any other teachers while her father was the School Director. Moreover, her handwriting was so beautiful that she was in charge of writing the students’ certificates.

M.R.Torsri Kshemsri married Mr.Sombat Kongchamnian on August 18, 1955. The wedding took place at Samsen Palace, and the newlywed house was built in the palace, close to the palace of H.S.H. Prince Poonsrikasem Kshemsri. Their four

children were born there; they were (1) Mr. Paokasem Kongchamnian, (2) Mrs. Prame-anong Kongchamnian (Ratnasakha), (3) Mrs. Chongsrisamorn Kongchamnian (Rujites), and (4) Mr. Supayoke Kongchumnian.

H.S.H. Prince Poonsrikasem Kshemsri passed away on September 25, 1963. M.R. Torsri (Kshemsri) Kongchamnian ran the School and followed in the footsteps of her parents with strong faith and devotion to educational work for Khemasiri Memorial School, where Mr. Sombat Kongchamnian was always by her side.

Later in 1967, M.R. Torsri (Kshemsri) Kongchamnian moved Khemasiri Memorial School to the Thonburi side. A lot of money was needed for the construction of the two, four-story classroom buildings. H.R.H. Prince Mahidol gave the Poonsrikasem Chaloruean Building to house a library, and in 1972, a standard swimming pool was built, establishing a swimming club named ‘Khemasiri Club’ where Thailand’s first underwater dance courses were taught. Khemasiri Memorial School also produced many swimmers who participated in important regional and world sports competitions and won so many awards that KMS became famous for its swimming. The statue of H.S.H. Prince Poonsrikasem Kshemsri and H.S.H. Princess Sooksrisamorn Kshemsri was then built, and so were a three-story classroom building which was located next to the dormitory for boarding students, and the Multi-Purpose Buildings 1 and 2. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary in 1982, the Suksrisamon Auditorium was built, and in 1992, the Khemasiri 60th Anniversary Memorial Building was built, where it is used as a library, computer rooms, and classrooms. In addition, M.R. Torsri (Kshemsri) Kongchamnian placed importance on academics by recruiting teachers who were talented in various academic fields from higher education institutions to provide additional teaching to the students, and collaborations with foreign countries were also promoted.

Khemasiri Memorial School was selected as a representative of Thailand to participate in the World School Project in Japan, which is a cultural and language exchange project with schools from 22 nations around the world.

Khemasiri Memorial School was therefore everything in her life. M.R. Torsri (Kshemsri) Kongchamnian passed away on May 21, 1999, and this day was designated as an important annual school day. She is highly respected and will always be remembered for her grace by all the KMS students on this day which is called ‘Torsri Day.’

Khemasiri Memorial School has organized an integrated learning curriculum for the lower primary level in many subjects. Both inside and outside classroom activities are held and allow students to participate. This will create abilities for the students to practice in their everyday life. Let’s listen to the voices of teachers and students who have attended this integrated learning curriculum.

Q: In your view, what is ‘integration?’

A: Integration, in my opinion, is the combination of knowledge in various subjects so that students can develop their skills systematically. “If you want to know anything, study. If you want to do it, just go for it.”

Q: In your courses, what subjects do you integrate?

A: The vocational course that I teach for Prothom 3 students is integrated with Thai language, social studies, and science courses. Evey week, the teachers in this integrated curriculum had a meeting to discuss various problems that occurred, brainstorming for solutions during PLC class, and planning activities for each week.

Q: What is the atmosphere in the integrated learning classroom?

A: In Prathom 3 level, Grade 3, the students were divided into groups of six to seven to explore the area behind the primary building. Ten bricks were given to the students to build vegetable plots according to their design. They grew vegetables, including caring for them and harvesting them. Later, they used the vegetables to cook food. This made a piece of work, and the students were proud of themselves.

Talking about the atmosphere, in the beginning they did not really enjoy the very first steps of exploring the area and building the vegetable plots due to the hot weather and the dirt. The activities were very hard and tiring. Each group was asked to send a representative to reflect and state

any problems that occurred. We helped each other to find a solution. After that, the students started working on vegetable plots again and began to like it. Now, they could live with nature, enduring the hot weather and having no problems with the dirt. They enjoyed the activities because they practiced them with their friends. The students learned to sacrifice, help, and be kind to each other. Now, the children have fun with building the vegetable plots. They enthusiastically looked forward to the day they would grow the vegetables, so that they could complete their group tasks and achieve them as planned.

Q: What are your expectations for the integrated learning classroom?

A: I believe that students who learn through nature will be allowed to use both soft and hard skills – observation, problem solving, and eliminating inappropriate behaviors. This will create emotional intelligence and make the students feel proud by practicing on their own. It can also be used in everyday life.

Q: How will the integrated learning affect the students?

A: I think the integrated learning will allow the students to enhance their skills, as well as know how to solve problems and how to deal with emotional management. It also encourages the students to work in a team, listening to other people’s opinions, and practicing leadership. They become happy with learning and can practice it in everyday life.

A: Yes, it is a subject that combines many subjects to study together. By actually practicing outside the classroom, it makes me understand the lesson more than by just studying in the classroom. There are Thai language, science, social studies, and vocational subjects.

Q: Integrated learning: what did the students do?

A: I actually did it. Thai language students communicate with friends about what they need to do. Science students practice observational skills. Social Studies students survey areas suitable for growing vegetables, and vocational students get hands-on practice in our vegetable plots.

Q: Do students think it is a good idea to bring multiple subjects to study in an integrated way?

A: It is good because it allows us to understand the lesson more than if we were just learning in the classroom.

Q: Students will apply the skills and processes gained from integrated learning. What are you going to use it for?

A: When we get the product from growing vegetables, I will use it to cook food. If there is anything left, it will be processed.

The students at all levels will participate in camp activities organized by the School to promote morality and ethics, such as Morality Camp, Buddha Dhamma Life Camp, Buddhabutra Camp, Red Cross Youth Camp, and Group Relations Camp. Khemasiri Memorial School was a host for a classroom observation tour and a workshop on the design of learning plans using the OLE system. o Selected as a representative of the Thai national triathlon team to compete in the 32nd SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia on May 6-8, 2023

o The 1st place in the Overall prize (for all age groups) in the 5 KM Open Water Program and awarded a gold medal and a plaque at the 2023 Thailand Marathon Swimming Championships at the Royal Navy Rowing Center, Ban Chang District, Rayong Province on May 27-28, 2023.

o The 1st place in the age group of 16-29 and the 4th place in the Overall Female prize in the 5 KM triathlon competition ‘Net Zero Emissions Navy Run,’ as well as awarded a gold medal and a trophy at HTMS Chakri Naruebet, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province on August 20, 2023.

o The 1st place in the corporate 3 athletes relay team competition (1 Swim 1,500M / 1 Bike 40KM / 1 Run 10KM) in the Phuket Triathlon Competition ‘Phuket Tri Iyara’ under the Phuket See Sports Project, as well as awarded a trophy and money prize at Sirinat National Park, Thalang District, Phuket Province on September 10, 2023

Attending overseas field trips can encourage students to practice their language skills and learn the culture of foreigners. During this summer vacation, the School provided a field trip project to New Zealand for Matthayom students from March 11 to April 6, 2023.

The development of competency for the students gets them prepared to keep up with the rapidly changing world. Khemasiri Memorial School has, therefore, adjusted classroom learning management, learning activity design, and organization of real experiences, both inside and outside classrooms, by adopting a new, integrated curriculum, combined with a competency-based curriculum. This style of teaching will make students have fun in learning, know how to explore knowledge by themselves, and raise discussion to exchange their knowledge. The students still obtain full academic aspects.

To raise the students to be joyful and happily grow up as a good person, this should be initiated at the young age of the lower primary level. Here comes the Project ‘The Kid Explorer’ for Primary 1 students, with the notions of cultivating their abilities to live in harmony with nature and technology. The students are required to ask questions through surveys, observations, and recording data, using places within the School. This will familiarize them with the School and let them use any resources to maximum benefit. The students can ‘learn worldwide’ by using technology to search for information that has been explored and bring it to a discussion which will form a process of thinking and application of knowledge in their daily lives.

Next, the notion of being strong citizens who live in harmony with nature and technology will be cultivated in the Primary 2 students. The activity ‘Around KMS’ is held by asking about the history and origins of the School, as well as observing the environment, inside and outside the School, where students have to live together. The students will raise a discussion and turn it into a piece of work that will be proudly presented. The results will make them feel proud of their School where they can live together harmoniously and happily. This will expand to Primary 3.

To allow the students to know how to self-manage, communicate, have advanced thinking, work in a team, and be strong citizens who live in harmony with nature and technology, here comes the Project ‘Little Garden’ in which they can experience real-life situations. The students will grow plants and can explain how the plants grow. They also have to take care of their own plants, preventing them from having pests, and finally harvesting the plants for cooking. The students will be able to explain how to cook properly. Last but not least, another Project ‘Little Market’ is adopted at this level. Their plants that are cooked and processed, or even in their original forms, will be in the market so that the students can add value to their products and gain income for themselves.

Khemasiri Memorial School is going to expand this new, integrated curriculum, combined with a competency-based curriculum for the upper primary level and continuously for the secondary level. The teaching and learning management will be based on the development in accordance with the age of the students. Studentcentered learning will be given importance and focused on for the most benefit to students because, currently, academics must be coupled with skills and actual practice. This can build strong students with competencies for their life and abilities to live happily in society.
