Geotextiles We offer a comprehensive range of woven and nonwoven geotextiles from basic separation and filtration textiles to high strength reinforcement and protection fabrics.

Non Woven Geotextiles Designed to provide rapid filtration in a variety of drainage applications, Lotrak® geotextiles allow water to pass into a filter drain without the carriage of fine soil particles.

The opening size of the geotextile is small enough to control soil particle movement but large enough to avoid clogging. As a result, water flow is maintained by the creation of a bridging zone to promote natural soil filtration which also helps to minimise flood risks.

Woven Geotextiles As a market leader in woven geotextiles, our Lotrak® woven grades have a proven record in a wide range of applications such as the construction of access, temporary or permanent roads, car parks, drainage systems, and ground stabilisation.

Used between the sub-grade and sub-base, Lotrak® separation geotextiles prevent the intermixing of expensive stone and other aggregates within the soil, while providing good ground stabilisation.

Specifically designed to control the particle movement of the soil, Lotrak® separators prevent clogging while maintaining water flow by creating a bridging zone to promote natural soil filtration.

Reinforcing Grades All Lotrak® reinforcing geotextiles are designed to provide reinforcement to weak sub-grades while absorbing stress caused by heavy traffic. With higher tensile stiffness, Lotrak® reinforcement grades are particularly suited to unpaved road access tracks, such as those found in sites for wind farm construction.

Depending on the specific site requirements, Lotrak® reinforcing geotextiles can provide the functions of reinforcement, separation, and filtration in one geotextile, eliminating the need for multiple products and offering clear cost benefits.

Warning Layer Specifically developed as a contaminated underground warning or marker geomembrane, highly visible Lotrak® Alarm15 is the perfect solution to notify future contractors and excavators of hidden hazards.

With an increasing demand for good building land reclamation of industrial zones is becoming more common place, with potential hazards now often buried and contained underground as an alternative to removal. Geogrids Tensar’s range of geogrids provides proven practical solutions for poor ground conditions combining major cost savings with considerable performance benefits in granular capping and sub-base layers.

Tensar geogrids offer considerable savings in granular thickness and reduction of excavated soil together with conservation of natural aggregates.

Our expansive Tensar portfolio also offers products for earth retaining walls and slopes, subgrade stabilisation, foundations, reinforcement of asphalt and pavement optimisation.

Tensar TriAx® TX Geogrids Using over 30 years’ experience in subgrade stabilisation, Tensar has radically re-engineered the fundamental structure of geogrids to create the revolutionary TriAx®. Where the tensile stiffness of biaxial geogrids is predominantly in two directions, TriAx® is multi-directional. The product has near isotropic tensile properties, through 360°. The aggregate particles interlock within the triangular apertures and the efficient, deep rib profile of TriAx geogrid helps to confine aggregate. Combined with the isotropic stiffness this creates a mechanically stabilised layer with exceptional performance.

Many tests and trials have been conducted to assess the performance of Tensar TriAx geogrid in mechanically stabilised layers subject to repeated wheel loadings, in particular at the University of Nottingham and the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). It has been shown that TriAx outperforms even Tensar biaxial geogrids.

Load bearing trials at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) also showed outstanding results in distributing static loading, a common situation in many projects such as working platforms for cranes and for tracked machinery such as piling rigs.

Tensar TriAx® TX-G geogrids Tensar TriAx TX-G geogrid incorporates the advanced technology of TriAx which is then combined with a non-woven geotextile laminated to the geogrid structure.

This process provides extra filtration and separation, preventing adverse effect on performance which can created by fine subgrade particles moving up into an open-graded aggregate layer.

Tensar Biaxial SS Geogrids Invented by Tensar, SS biaxial geogrids have been used in 10,000s of projects worldwide, including roads, working platforms and reinforced foundations.

Working Platforms A safe working platform is essential. Tensar geogrids can be incorporated in the granular material to stabilise it and increase bearing capacity, limiting surface deformation and settlements.

Strengthening the granular layer enables the platform thickness to be reduced. By reducing the volume of fill required, then costs, time, and emissions are reduced, contributing to sustainability objectives.

Unpaved Roads Most connecting roads, farm to market roads, haul roads, access roads and temporary roads have no paved surface or a thin, non-structural spray and chip surface for waterproofing or dust control.

Tensar Basetex Basetex - High strength geotextile In cases where embankments must be constructed over soft soils, or ground which may contain subterranean voids which are prone to subsidence there may be a requirement for high strength geosynthetic reinforcement. Tensar’s Basetex range of high strength geotextiles is designed to offer the strength necessary to provide stability.

Permeable Grass Paving Metropave Plus is a permeable paving system designed for the stabilisation of trafficked grass or gravel surfaces.

Manufactured in the UK from recycled material the clip-together cellular paving system can take loads of up to 250 tonnes per square metre. It can be gravel-filled, or alternatively can be filled with a suitable growing media and seeded to create an aesthetically pleasing grass surface.

The Metropave Plus is ideal for integration into SUDS as it enables surface water run off to naturally infiltrate the ground, whilst providing a robust, safe, and attractive surface for vehicles and foot traffic.

Metropave Plus from Naylor provides a permanent solution for parking or vehicle access routes.

However, it can also be used as a temporary solution on top of existing grassed areas. The system is suitable for both commercial and domestic applications. When filled with decorative gravel the structural ‘cells’ in the pavers create an attractive and exceptionally hard-wearing surface and eliminate the problem of gravel ‘migration’. The cells can, alternatively be filled with soil and then seeded to produce a natural grass surface with the strength to handle all kinds of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Geosynthetic Clay Liners and Geomembranes We offer a range of liners for all types of waterproofing from ponds and lagoons to basements and structures.

Geosynthetic Clay Liner Needle-punched reinforced geosynthetic clay liners are extremely versatile clay-based lining products with two geotextile layers encapsulating a layer of sodium bentonite resulting in a very strong and robust product for sealing applications.

The bentonite clay gives the GCL its self-healing properties, should an object puncture the membrane the bentonite clay will swell over the damaged area thereby repairing itself. Installation is quick and easy, simply unroll on site and overlap at the joints.

From a logistical point of view, the advantages are also easy to see, one truckload covers 4,000m² compared with only 40m² for one load of clay.

Geomembranes Widely used for the containment of liquids, solids and gases in a variety of construction applications.

We have substantial experience and knowledge of containment engineering supplying membranes manufactured from HDPE, LLDPE, EPDM, PP or Butyl amongst others as well as our own Aztex Attenuation Membrane.

These products can also be made in several different thicknesses with either a textured or smooth finish. Gabion Baskets The use of gabions as an effective solution to combat erosion and to stabilise and strengthen embankments has been in evidence for several centuries.

Rivers, coasts, roads and railways can all be subject to continuous or fluctuating erosion, demanding planned defences that counteract the forces involved.

Gabion baskets are used in many modern civil engineering schemes to provide a more environmentally friendly solution to mass concrete structures. Using gabions as an alternative to the more traditional structures allows you to fill them with local stone, giving the product a more attractive natural appearance. They are manufactured from welded or woven wire mesh and can be quickly erected and filled without special skills or machinery thereby keeping costs to a minimum.

Bi-axial welded mesh gabions are manufactured from a square mesh, normally of opening size 75.0mm × 75.0mm where the longitudinal wires are welded to the cross wires at their intersection points. Hexagonal woven mesh gabions are manufactured from a mesh that has a hexagonal opening which is formed by twisting pairs of wire together with one and a half turns (sometimes referred to as triple or double twist). Gabions are available in a number of wire diameters and coatings to suit the application or can be manufactured in a combination of mesh-wire specifications to provide economy in supply. The resultant gabions’ flexibility is dependent upon the choice of wire diameter.

Where two types of stone fill are required, additional loose panels can be supplied and fitted on site to separate the two types of fill materials.

Erosion Control Soil erosion can be caused by many different factors such as rain runoff, water and wind erosion, foot traffic and wildlife.

We can provide a range of both biodegradable and permanent erosion control matting which have been developed over many years of usage in a wide variety of solutions, which means that every type of erosion problem can be solved quickly and cost effectively installing with a number of fixing options best suited to specific applications.

Biodegradable Erosion Control

Silt Fence

Biodegradable ECB’S (Erosion Control Blankets’) are designed to provide slope protection whilst vegetation is establishing, once establishment has taken place the blanket will naturally break down and become part of the natural vegetation.

Our natural erosion control range includes matting made from straw, jute and coir which are environmentally friendly solutions suited for basic erosion requirements right through to the most severe applications. Erosion control blankets and meshes are available unseeded or pre-seeded and vary in material and lifespan. The pre-seeded blankets come with a choice of seed mix, which also includes Wildflower, and are available in different fibre combinations and reinforced meshes to offer short-, medium-, and long-term degradation (up to 36 months).

Silt fences are woven, UV stable, porous temporary sediment barriers used on construction sites to control the movement of soil during groundworks.

Their purpose is to protect water quality in nearby streams, rivers, lakes, and seas trapping harmful silt through settlement and filtration before it leaves the site.

Permanent Erosion Control Permanent erosion control blankets and meshes are used on sites requiring longer lasting protection for more difficult to vegetate soils. These threedimensional turf reinforcement mats manufactured from UV stable polypropylene act as an artificial root system, stabilising topsoil while vegetation establishes, and then providing long term turf reinforcement. Predominantly intended for embankment and channel applications and ideal for use in areas that may be subject to foot traffic or mowing. In severe applications, blankets resistant to environmental and climatic conditions can be supplied providing high strength, durability and turf reinforcement with a design life of up to 50 years.

The benefits of silt fences are increasingly becoming recognised in Britain with fines being issued to those found to have caused significant pollution to the surrounding area caused by site run off.

Envirolok® Bag System Envirolok® is a Vegetated Mechanically Stabilised Earth Wall System for retaining walls, slope stabilisation, erosion control and shoreline protection. The Envirolok system allows for easy landscaping design while providing a vegetated finish.

Geoweb Geocellular Confinement System Geocells are used for load support, tree root protection, retaining walls, and slope and channel applications.

HDPE panels of cells are expanded on site and filled with sand, soil or gravel to create a threedimensional load spreading containment system.

Load Support Geocells are a proven cost-effective solution for challenging soil stability problems. In load support applications, they can reduce the excavation and fill requirements by up to 50%. The system is easy to deploy for roads and tracks supporting heavy plant machinery and vehicles in difficult to access locations.

Geocells provide significant on-site benefits. It reduces the thickness and weight of the structural support element by 50% or more; it allows use of lower quality or less costly site won infill materials; it allows the subgrade material to withstand more than 10 times the number of cyclic load applications before accumulating the same rate of permanent deflection.

Tree Root Protection Geocells offer a no-dig method of constructing access ways or parking areas in close proximity to nearby trees, without causing them undue stress that would damage or ultimately kill them. Tree roots are often located within the top 600mm of the surface layers of soil where construction work and compaction can damage them. Geocells distribute loads laterally, reducing compaction and its effect on the tree root zone.

Geocells are recommended and adopted for use in root protection areas (RPA’s) by councils all over the UK.

Slope and channel protection

Earth Retention

Our slope and channel protection system stabilises and protects against sliding forces and erosive conditions of all types. It can be designed with appropriate infill types to withstand even the highest water velocities in channel applications.

This system creates economical and structurally sound retaining walls that meet all design requirements and aesthetics through a terraced vegetated face. Geocells open-celled horizontal terraces create a natural environment for sustainable vegetation. The vegetated system also allows rainwater to collect through the cell wall, maximising stormwater collection and minimising runoff. Soil-filled front cells allow grasses to establish and flourish, creating a green wall.

Grass Reinforcement Mesh We provide a range of slip resistant polyethylene plastic mesh grids for reinforcing and protecting grassed surfaces prone to wear, rutting, and smearing which can result in a muddy surface incapable of withstanding vehicular or pedestrian traffic applications.

The grass reinforcement mesh has been developed with an oscillated mesh structure which is designed to increase traction and improve slip resistance by up to 97% compared to standard straight oriented meshes.

Geocomposite Drainage We can provide an extensive range of high performance geocomposite drainage systems. Designed to provide an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional structural drainage techniques, it provides high flow capacity at high strengths and added protection to waterproofing.

The geocomposite consists of a cuspated impermeable core or a polymer net, pre-bonded to a non woven geotextile fabric on one or both sides which acts as both a filter and a separation layer.

Various thicknesses are available, dependent on flow and compressive strength requirements. These replace the need to use the traditional method of granular stone drainage which can save time and costs.

Structural Drainage Geocomposite drainage can be used horizontally or vertically in buried structures, bridge abutments, basement walls and at the back of retaining walls.

The HDPE cuspated core of the geocomposite provides a free-flowing drainage void. The cuspates are designed to support the geotextile which is bonded to the core to ensure that it doesn’t deform into the drainage void under the pressure of the backfill material. It allows flow in all directions, unlike linear or pipe systems.

Highways Edge Drainage A cost-effective alternative to traditional stone drainage for highway edge drains and concrete central reservation drainage. The geocomposite collects and channels liquids and gases to a carrier pipe for transportation to a suitable discharge point along the highway.

Landscaping Drainage This system is a preformed, high performance, drainage system designed to replace traditional pipe and filter stone drainage for beneath existing grass sports pitches. It can be produced in strips of 150mm and 300mm which is fully encapsulated by the geotextile and can be laid in a trench just 35mm wide, this results in less disturbance of the playing surface than encountered with laying pipes and gravel along with less materials to remove from the facility.

Green Roof Drainage & Attenuation Layer In this application it attenuates water and stores rainfall within the nodes of the HDPE core for the irrigation of plants, whilst also allowing free drainage during storm periods. This prevents the root growing media from drying out during hot weather or from becoming waterlogged during periods of heavy rain and facilitates the efficient drainage of any excess water away from the roof.

Weed Control Fabrics

CuTex

Our permeable weed control fabrics suppress weeds in landscaping and garden applications without the need for chemicals. This geotextile is designed to allow the passage of water, oxygen and nutrients while blocking weeds. The material is installed at the interface between soil and a decorative layer such as bark chippings, stone chippings, pebbles or gravel. Available in handy packs for domestic use.

CuTex is a permeable geocomposite root barrier system consisting of a specially formulated copper sheet mechanically encapsulated between two high strength geotextiles predominantly used in the control of Japanese Knotweed. CuTex acts by safely releasing Cu2+ ions to inhibit root growth.

The copper ions create a localised zone of inhibition which when approached by root tips causes them to undergo a progressive collapse.

Japanese Knotweed

CuTex has been independently tested by The Centre for Plant Science at the University of Leeds; the research verified CuTex as a safe and effective barrier for Japanese Knotweed and other invasive species.

Japanese Knotweed has been labelled a ‘real thug’ by the Royal Horticultural Society capable of growing up to 10cm per day. It spreads rapidly from underground rhizomes known to cause damage to building structures and substructures by targeting weak points, such as cracks in masonry, and attempting to grow through them. We can offer a number of solutions to combat such invasive weeds.

Root Block - Barrier membrane We offer high performance polyethylene membranes - designed to block even the most aggressive roots from penetrating over the anticipated design service life. Concrete Canvas Concrete Canvas is a flexible, concrete filled geosynthetic, that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable and waterproof concrete layer.

Typically, 10-times faster to install than conventional concrete solutions; essentially, it’s concrete on a roll™. CC is ideal for a wide range of erosion control applications, it is a low-carbon, environmentally friendly concrete alternative. With no need for plant or mixing equipment, CC can be installed without specialist training; simply unroll, secure, and add water.

Concrete Canvas consists of a 3-dimensional fibre matrix containing a specially formulated dry concrete mix. A PVC backing on one surface of the CC ensures the material has excellent permeability. CC can be hydrated either by spraying or by being fully immersed in water. Once set, the fibres reinforce the concrete, preventing crack propagation and providing a safe plastic failure mode. Concrete™ Canvas® GCCM is available in 3 thicknesses: CC5TM/CCTI, CC8TM/CCTII, CC13TM/CCTIII.
