For 100 years, Burbank Parks and Recreation has been the heartbeat of a city where community, connection, and purpose flourish. From our very first playground to today’s vibrant recreation programs, we’ve remained committed to creating spaces where friendships blossom, families thrive, and generations come together. As we celebrate our Centennial under the theme A Century of Community: Parks, People, and Purpose, we’re proud to honor the past while embracing the future. This July, we proudly join the National Recreation and Park Association’s initiative to Build Together, Play Together—a perfect reflection of the values that define Burbank Parks and Recreation.
Whether it's learning to swim, joining a youth league, taking an art class, or picnicking in one of our 26 parks, Burbank Parks and Recreation is where memories are made and lives are enriched. Our dedicated teams—from Recreation and Community Services to Landscape and Forestry and Business Administration—work every day to ensure Burbank is a place where everyone is welcome. Landscape and Forestry Services care for our beloved green spaces, trees, playgrounds, and trails, creating safe, beautiful environments that connect us to nature and each other. As we reflect on a century of service, we invite you to celebrate with us and continue building the next 100 years of joy, inclusion, and community spirit.
Danny, Senior Groundskeeper | Landscape Services
Growing up playing in Burbank parks, Danny found meaningful purpose in giving back to the community by helping maintain the same spaces that shaped his childhood. Now, as part of the Landscape Services team, he takes pride in working outdoors and creating welcoming, well-kept parks where families can gather and make lasting memories.
Edwina finds great fulfillment in helping stray animals find loving, forever homes and supporting pet owners during challenging times. Raised on a farm with a lifelong love of animals, she is proud to serve the Burbank community by addressing animal-related concerns and providing compassionate care every day.
Cristian, Recreation Supervisor| Recreation Services
Cristian is passionate about helping youth grow in confidence through recreation and sports, believing these programs build both strong individuals and connected communities. He has successfully revitalized a youth sports program by mentoring local students, turning enthusiasm into skill and teamwork. Drawing from personal experience and a deep connection to Burbank, Cristian is dedicated to giving back to the community .
Senior Groundskeeper | Landscape Services
For 16 years, Miguel has been a dedicated member of Burbank’s Forestry team, helping to preserve and protect the city’s beloved urban forest and 33,000 public trees. From responding to storm emergencies to maintaining the beauty of our green canopy, his work reflects a deep passion for nature and an unwavering commitment to the community.
Drawn to the Parks and Recreation Department’s reputation for being a vibrant and team-oriented workplace, Emin quickly found a sense of purpose and pride in contributing to its community-focused mission. One of his proudest accomplishments is helping bring the McCambridge Recreation Center’s gymnasium to life through a large-scale public art mural that celebrates Burbank’s history and spirit.
Inspired by a personal realization about aging, Derrick found fulfillment in serving Burbank’s senior community and providing meaningful programs that bring people together. He takes great pride in organizing large events like the Spring EGGstravaganza, which unites the community and showcases the exceptional teamwork of Burbank’s Recreation staff.
Motivated by a powerful childhood experience, Casem discovered a passion for water safety that sparked a lifelong dedication to protecting others through Aquatics. Each day, he finds purpose in training lifeguards and leading programs that keep the Burbank community safe, healthy, and thriving around the water.
As a lifelong advocate for community connection, Sylvia fulfilled her dream of becoming a Social Service Coordinator, creating meaningful experiences for Burbank’s older adults through Senior Services. Whether celebrating a 100th birthday or witnessing new friendships bloom, she finds deep joy in helping seniors feel valued, connected, and at home.
Virginia loves enabling our arts center students to follow their bliss in creating pottery that they can share with their loved ones, use in their homes, or give to friends. They come to the center to be creative, share their stories, and feel part of the community. Virginia herself started taking pottery classes 16 years ago in Burbank and her very own passion with clay led her back to college to study ceramics.
Growing up in Burbank, Christina was shaped by the very Parks and Recreation programs she now helps bring to life creating memorable, inclusive experiences for families across the community. From adaptive hiking trails to summer camps and concerts, she finds deep fulfillment in watching her daughter and others thrive through the programs she’s proud to help build.
Driven by a passion for inclusive youth development, Edgar found his calling in recreation and now takes pride in creating meaningful moments for all kids whether it’s helping a program participant make their first basket or launching programs like the Pipers Pals league. His work reflects a strong commitment to building confidence, connection, and community through play.

Princess and Pea are a motherdaughter bonded pair looking to find the perfect family. Princess is a 1-year-old, young mom, and Pea is a 4-month-old puppy. Together the cuteness level is off the charts with these two. They are a ball of fun and boy do they like to chase after those balls, wrestle and show off the loads of energy they have. The great thing about adopting a bonded pair like Princess and Pea, is that they keep each other busy and entertained, making it super easy for their future adopters.
Astrid is a LARGE Armenian Gampr weighing in at a healthy 160 pounds. At 3 years old, Astrid is a puppy at heart and seems to be unaware of her larger than life size. More often than not she can be found lost in her own world, running around, jumping in the air trying to catch some wind under her paws. Astrid must have a vivid imagination as she loves hanging out on her own, keeping herself entertained. She enjoys simple things like a dip in the kiddie pool and a fluffy squeaky toy. Astrid is an amazing dog.
