The power of
diversity I believe in diversity. I enjoy living in the middle of the most multicultural neighbourhood in Copenhagen, because I like its contrasts and unpolishedness. I often feel claustrophobic if my surroundings become too uniform, and I find that things in general tend to become boring if they become too cultivated. It is often in the contrasts and personal choices that things become interesting and comes alive. Opposites attracts and compliments each other in our homes and in our lives. I believe that meeting people, different to ourselves and experiencing cultures, foreign to our own, should be part of our general education. I believe it is good to be challenged in our beliefs and habits - no matter where you are from. Travelling is another way of meeting people & cultures and has always been a great source of inspiration for me. Colours and patterns have always been essentials in the Bungalow universe, and this collection is no exception. I believe that the power of patterns also comes alive in the contrast and mix. The different patterns in our collection are carefully selected to compliment each other – florals with graphic patterns, strict shiny stripes with woollen Suzani embroidery, clean modern lampshades with classic bases - and a wonderland of monochrome colours to mix and create harmony. I dont believe in right or wrong in home decoration. I believe in taste, but personal taste rather than “good taste”. To me, an interesting home is where you can feel the spirit of the people living there, where the home becomes a reflection of a personality. The art is to express your style. Like the icon of personal style Iris Apfel puts it: “Fashion you can buy, but style you possess” The Bungalow collection is very much created from a personal taste, which embraces blending of styles, imagination and personal creativity. I love the free spirit and eclectic approach in the Bohemian lifestyle and enjoy the fact that our products are being used in castles and casual homes alike. I love this quotation about home decoration by Justin Blakeney (founder of The Jungalow) which sums it up perfectly for me: “Decorating is about feeling free, having fun, rejecting traditional notions about what goes with what – especially that everything in a room has to match” I hope that the collection will inspire you to create your own story and build on your global bungalow.

Colour your day with beautiful Bungalow ceramics
We simply love the organic shapes & vibrant colours of our Jazzy stoneware range with reactive glaze. This season we have added new juicy spring colours, which can be mixed across the previous range. New Neem patterned serving boards have also joined. Stoneware is a very strong and durable material. The Bungalow collections of stoneware are manufactured with various types of beautiful glazes. The Jazzy collection is made with reactive glaze - a technique which creates multicoloured effects and a unique look on each item. The patterned collection is made with thick, glassy glaze with a crackle effect. The crackled look will increase with usage. The patterns are applied by hand. For both types, expect and embrace varieties in colour and imperfections as part of the products. We do not consider them imperfections, but charming reminders of the handmade touch.

my fascination for block printed
patterns It is not a coincidence that we have had hand blockprinted textiles in our collection for the past decade. It all started with a fascination for the beautiful and diverse blockprinted patterns, which I discovered on my very first journey to India. For me it was an instant love for the craft behind the patterns – an ancient technique which has survived the wonders of modern industrialization, due to dedicated artisans and pioneers in the Indian textile industry. Blockprinting is a testimony of the love of colours and patterns, which is so striking in India. The beauty of blockprinting is in the imperfection. It is the imperfection that gives life to the pattern - the way you can detect the stamp outlines from the wooden blocks and the dissimiliar pressure from the artisan's hand. These characteristics distinguish a blockprinted textile from a perfect machine printed one, and makes blockprint unique.

behind block printing For thousands of years, artisans of India have been making decorative blockprints - enchanting and inspiring around the world. The art of blockprinting is passed down from generation to generation and to achieve the highest quality we are working with some of the best blockprinters in India. Blockprinted textiles are all handmade products and the printing process is lengthy and complex. Each piece is unique. Be ready to embrace varieties in colour and irregularities as part of the product. We do not consider them imperfections, but charming reminders of the handmade excellence. Skilled craftsmen stamp the cloth using carved wooden blocks to imprint the designs onto the fabric. relationships We believe in long lasting and mutual business relationships, both with our customers and our suppliers. We have worked with the same blockprint manufacturer for more than a decade, after years of research to find the one who matches our expectations of quality and responsibility. Our Indian blockprint manufacturer is a true artisan. He is a trained textile technologist and he and his wife has worked with textiles and blockprinting all their lives. They have been the main architects behind a major project for preventing the art of blockprinting in India, which was at a point threatened to be closed down by authorities because of excessive water usage in the production. They and other serious blockprinters joined forces to create a common environmental friendly textile park where rainwater is collected and rinsed as well as being re-cycled in the production processes. This effort saves about 150.000 litres of ground water daily. It is important for us that our products are being manufactured with respect for the environment and the people involved. The people behind the production – the artisans and workers who create our products are all working in well-organized work environments.

Handmade Paper
We use many different types of techniques on our handmade papers. We use plain coloured papers with a special coating to achieve a leather look, screen printed papers for colourfull patterns, papers with gold-foil stamp with an exlusive feel and the ancient craft of marbling. But common for our paper products; sheets, boxes, cards and notebooks is, that they are all made from handcrafted paper, which is produced from recycled cotton. The papers are wood-free and azo-free. In the following pages you can see the complex process of the paper making.
