How do I choose TMT bars for a new home construction.
The TMT bars are abbreviated as Thermo Mechanically Treated bars. They are also called as Reinforcing bar or Rebar in Civil engineering terminology. These bars are used for providing the tensile strength to the structure which provides equilibrium for the compressive strength provided by concrete. The TMT bars comes often in different grades for which they are selected according to the design requirement of the building. They are as follows.
Fe415. Fe415D. Fe415S. Fe500. Fe500D. Fe500S. Fe550. Fe550D. Fe600. *The symbol ‘Fe’ denotes ‘Ferrous’ and the number following Fe indicates the specified minimum 0.2% Proof Stress or Yield stress in N/mm2. The letters ‘D’ and ‘S’ indicates the same specified minimum 0.2% proof stress or Yield strength in N/mm2 with some enhanced and additional requirements.
