In the same rveek nerv orders of these mills'il,ere 14.0 per cent belorv production. Unfilled orders of the reporting mills amounted to 31 per cent of stocks. For the reporting softwood mills unfilled orders rvere equivalent to l9 days' production at the current rate, and gross stocks were equivalent to 60 days' production.

For the year-to-date, shipments of reporting identical mills were 2.2 per cent above production ; new orders \vere 1.2 per cent above production.

Compared to the average corresponding week in 19351939, production of reporting mills rvas 69.6 per cent above; shipments were 66.5 per cent above; ner"' orders rvere 60.2 per cent above. Compared to the corresponding r,veek in 1952, production of reporting mills was 0.6 per cent below; shipments u'ere 8.1 per cent below; and ner,v orders u'ere 19.9 per cent belou..

The \\restern Pine Association for the 'iveek ended October 24, 117 mills reporting. gave orders as 71,8@,000 feet, shipments 72,574,W feet, and production 77,340pffi leet. Orders on hand at the encl of the u'eek totaled 183,174,000 feet.

The California Redwood Association for the month of September, 19 companies reporting, gave orders received 50,796,000 feet, shipments 51,920,0@ feet, and production 62,557.000 feet. Orders on hand at the end of the month totaled 54,972.000 feet.
