Northern Calilornia Retailers To Hold Convention At Santa Ctuz, Octob er 15-17

The eighth annual convention c{ tbe Lumber Merchants Association of Northern California rvill beheldon \A/ednesday, Thursday and Friday, October 15, 16, and 17, at Hotel Casa Del Rey, Santa Cruz.

Breakfast. President George K. Adams, Noah Adams Lumber Co., Walnut Grove, Calif., will preside at the general business meeting at 10:@ a.m., and Earle Johnson, Watsonville Lumber Co., Watsonville, will preside at the afternoon business session. On Thursday evening there will be a dinner and floor show in the Garden Room.

From 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday there will be registration in the lobby. The kickoff luncheon rvill be at 12 noon. Lloyd Hebbron, Hebbron-Nigh Lumber Co., Santa Cruz, will be toastmaster, and the keynote address rvill be delivered by a prominent speaker.

An important f eature of the conventiorr will be the equipment and products exhibit, rvhich rvill be open immediately after the luncheon, and throughout the convention. This will be of great interest to the dealers.

There will be many noted speakers on the program. These 'ivill include Dr. Tully C. Knoles, Chancellor of College of the Pacific, Stockton; John J. French, Sacramento Valley Associated Industries, Sacramento; H. V. Simpson, executive vice president, \\rest Coast Lnmbermen's Association, Seattle; Brownie Carslake, Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio; Kenneth Smith, president, California Redrvood Association, San Francisco; Dr. George Benson, president, Harding College, Searcy, ArkanSAS.

There rvill be a Hoo-Hoo Concatenation at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, staged by San Francisco Hoo-Hoo Club No. 9, and a banquet at 7:ffi p.m. in the Garden Room, sponsored by the San Francisco Lumbermen's Club. Herb Schaur, Vicegerent Snark of the San Francisco District 'rvill be in charge of the Concat and will preside at the clinner.

On Thursday morning F. Dean Prescott, Valley Lumber Co., Fresno, u'ill be toastmaster at the Old Guard

On Friday James Stricker, United Lumber Yards, Modesto, Calif., will preside at the morning session. Wendell Robie, Auburn Lumber Co., Auburn, Calif., will preside at the luncheon and the afternoon session.

The dinner dance in the Garden Room on Friday evening rvill be in honor of the Association's Training School graduates.

There lvill be a complete program of entertainment for the ladies.

The annual golf tournament will be held at the Pasatiempo Country Club at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sam I{. Nigh, Hebbron-Nigh Lumber Co., Santa Cruz, chairman of the golf committee, will receive entries.

R. J. (Bob) Wright, executive vice president of the Association, said trvo rveeks ago that early indications are that this rvill be the largest convention in the Association's history.

Plywood Factory To BeBuilt At Eureka,Calif.

Announcement was made by Thomas B. Malarkey, vice president and secretary of the M and M Wood \\rorking Company, Portland, of the expansion of their operations by the immediate construction of a $1,000,000 plywood factory at Eureka, Calif. The new plant will employ 260 men on a trvo-shift basis, and have a daily production of 175,000 {eet.

The plant rvill make both Douglas fir and redwood plyr,vood. It will be located on a site close to the Hammond Lumber Company, which will furnish the peeler logs for tl-re factory, Mr. Nfalarkey said. Efforts will be made to get the plant into operation within a year.

E,lmer Hall, manager of the company's Lot.rgvie'r'r', \\rash., plant, rvill manage the Eureka operations.
