Dant & Russcll Salcs Co. and Fir-Tex of Long Beach Dealers Mect Nofthcrn California Have New Warehouse

Dant & Russell Sales Co. and Fir-Tex of Northern California announce that Plywood and Fir-Tex products are now available at their new warehouse at 1825 Folsom Street, San Francisco, Calif.

The new warehouse has approximately 18,000 square feet of floor space with a 4-car spur track which provides immediate delivery service.

Everything New

H & H Lumber Company, Coachella, Calif., now has a new building, new merchandise, new location, and a new name. The name has been changed to H & H Lumber and Ifardware Company, to cover their new line of paint, plumbing supplies, hardware and sundries, as well as lumber. The new building, of redwood rustic siding in modern design, is two blocks closer to the business area than the old one, and presents an attractive front with its overhanging roof and tilted display windows. Clyde Hollenbeck, owner and manager of the yard, says that they will have the grounds landscaped soon.

More than 30 members of the local lumber fraternity met Thursday night, July 15, at the Masonic Temple in Long Beach for a dinner meeting for the purpose of electing officers for the coming term.

In the absence of Rex Clark of Consolidated Lumber Co., president of the organization, Asa Fickling, A. E. Fickling Lumber Co., vice president, presided.

Elected were: Erik Flamer, Long Beach wholesale lumber dealer, president, and Wm. Clemoe, Century Lumber Co., secretary-treasurer.

Guest speakers were Art Kayser, Los Angeles, Southern California manager of West Coast Lumbermen's Association, Chas. P. Morgan, superintendent of building, City of Long Beach, and his assistants, Clinton P. Heath, chief building inspector and O. R. Pettenger, building inspector.

Congratulations are being received by Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Bonner on the birth of a son, Thomas Allen Bonner II, at Palo Alto, June 3.

Clarence W. Dietterich, managing director of the Southern' Plywood Manufacturers Association announces that the Summer Meeting of the Association will be held at the Henry Grady Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 3.

Moves \(/estern Division Sales Office lssues Revised Schedule of Publications

\\ralter G. Stromquist, vice president in charge of sales, said the change was made because San Francisco supplies a more convenient headquarters for the sales division, which includes the following states in addition to California: Oregon, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and Neu' Nfexico. Another factor, he said, was a desire to bring tlre division sales organization closer to the nelv plant to be built by the company at Ukiah.

The company expects to start construction rvork on its new plant at Ukiah, Calif., in the fall.

Bcck From Texcrs Trip

John C. Saner, Jr., of Santa Fe Lumber Co., San Francisco, returned July 16 from an air trip to Dallas, Texas, where he attended the funeral of his father, John C. Saner, Sr., 'ivho passed arvay July 9.

Mr. Saner, Sr. had been prominent in the lumber business in Texas and Louisiana for many years, and had some interests on the Pacific Coast. lle n'as also an attorney.

Portland, Ore., July 19-Issuance of a nerv, revised Schedule of Publications r.vas reported today by the \\restern Pine Association.

The Schedule lists 77 books, booklets, envelope stuffers, mat proof sheets, laboratory notes, technical bulletins, etc., designed for use as dealer aids, educational material, reference manuals or building and remodeling guides.

Single copies of most of the association's publications are distributed 'ivitl-rout charge. The Schedule lists quantity prices and contains an order blank. Publications may be ordered imprinted in any color of ink.

A copy of the Schedule may be secured by writing the Western Pine Association, 510 Yeon Building, Portland 4, Ore.

Davis Lumber Yard, Azusa, will soon be moving into the nerv building 'ivhich has been under construction at their yard. The attractive red.ivood building measures 40 by 50 feet, and u'ill serve as a storeroom, display room and office. Sliding redwood doors r,vill separate the rear half of the building for storage space. Joe Davis Jr., owner of the yard, intends to pave the parking space in frorit of the structure u'ith asphalt prior to the opening.

Woodleaf Plant

The interesting aerial picture on tl-ris page shows the Sacramento Box & Lumber Company's big sar,vmill at Woodleaf, California.

The long dark line seen in the upper le{t part of the picture represents a cold deck of nine million feet of logs.

This mill clut 37 million feet of fir and pine lumber in 1947. The operation is working torvards a perpetual yield basis.

The Sacramento Box & Lumber Company started business in 1923. P. V. Burke is president. G. J. Thompson is secretary-treasurer. L. J. Carr is sales manager.

Mr. Burke is also president of the Covelo Lumber Company, whose mill is at Covelo, Calif. He is vice president of the Western Pine Association; a director of the National Wooden Box Manufacturers Association, and president of the Pine Industrial Relations Committee.
