Firms Cited for Wood Promotion

Eleven firms affiliated with the lumber industry, nine in Oregon, one in California and one in Missouri. have been honored for contributing to the industry's National Wood Promotion Program each year since its inception in 1959.

The firms are among II5 nonJumber manufacturing companies, principally machinery and equipment producers and retail and wholesale lumbermen, who have been consistent subscribers to the NWPP throughout its five-year history.

Representatives of the lI firms cited have been presented with special wood plaques, expressing the "recognition and respect" of the American lumber industry.

Those honored were: Henry T. Eaton, Eaton-Young Lumber Co., Eugene, Ore.; Robert A. Schott, Forestglen Lumber Co., Ore' gon Ltd., Medford, Ore.; K. R. Michel, Michel Lumber Co., Lake Oswego, Ore.; M. lofoyette Lumber Opens Brqnch

Pat McBrider'owner of Lafayette Lumber Co., 3680 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette, has opened a new branch yard at 525 Monument Blvd. in Concord.

Open seven days a week, the new branch carries a complete line of building materials including lumber, doors, room dividers, fencing, paneling, ceiling tile, patio covers, cement and hardware. McBride purchased Lafayette Lumber from Piedmont Lumber Co. early last year.

Fire swept through Builders Lumber Company in Dos Palos on May 13, completely leveling the facilityr before it could be brought under control. The long established yard is owned by Fred Riedle. Jr.. an active member of the Lurr.r,ber Merchants Association of Northern California.

U. 5. Plywood Doubles Siding Output

Expansion of U. S. Plywood Corporation's PF'15 facility at Lebanon, Oregon, has been announced by operations manager William A. Whelan who stated the department will double papacity on completion of a 70,000 sq. ft. addition.

"Many years of development in cooperation with E. I. DuPont to provide an exterior siding guaranteed paint-free for fifteen years has assured minimum maintenance costs as well as providing an exterior siding cornpetitive to other materials," he said.

Sales and earnings of Diamond National Corporation in 1963 set new records for the fifth consecutive year, representing the highest in the company's 92-year history, William H. I7alters, chairman and chief executive officer, has reported.

The directors have increased the quarterly dividend for the fifth successive year, he said.

Diamond National showed a 9.6 percent gain in earnings last year and net sales in 1963 increased by $24,133,000 to $278,075,000 against $253,942000 in 1962.
