retailers of lumber and building supplies in the West. Copeland now has 88 yards. The number would have been one more, but presently a yard at Vancouver, Wash., is being abolished. The latter is involved in that city's urban renewal project and another site was not available.

The first Copeland Yard was established in Portland on November 12, 1912. Yards are now located in Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, and Idaho. The CopeIand system sells more than 5O million feet of lumber annually. Copeland also operates a wholesale company in Portland. The United Lumber Yard chain was established about 25 years ago. Copeland said he hoped to retain most of the United Yards' personnel.

Huge New Shed Added By TW&J in Von Nuys

Tarter, Webster & Johnson has added another lumber storage shed at their Van l\uys distribution yard. The yard is managed by Bill Bright. The shed is modern in every detail and is 6O' x 180 with 10,800 square feet of under-cover space.

With the additional building the complex now has three large warehouses to house the million feet of dry lumber stock the four-acre yard carries. The new building was erected by Commercial Structures of Los Angeles and sports a Iaminated beam roof with six foot overhang, skylights, and open end doors for convenient, efficient inside operation.

Dick Lambert is sales manaser for the yard, which sells to retail dealers in the San Fernando Valley, South Bay cities, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

The Van Nuys set-up has a five car in-the-yard railroad spur with an additional five car hold track. Much of their stock is also received via truck and trailer from the various company mills and suppliers.
