Free Film On Plywood Use
An updated version of the film, "Miracle in Wood," tracing plywood from the first pressed veneer for fine Egyptian furniture to its present use as a structural building material, is now available from the American Plywood Association (formerly Douglas Fir Plywood Association).
The revised "Miracle in 'Wood" will emphasize the end uses of plywood-for evervthing from homes and vacation cabins to boats and industrial applications.
A portion of the film illustrates briefly how plywood is made and why it is called a miracle in wood. The reasons for its strength (pound for pound stronger than steel), rigidity and other properties are described.
The film demonstrates the versatility of plywood by showing it being used for such items as cargo vans and other containers, pallets, boats (including hydroplanes) and home-building.
The engineered uses for plywood as large building components that make possible new architectural designs and help cut building costs, are also outlined.
The longest single portion of the half-hour film is devoted to plywood's primary use-home construction. The documentary also discusses anticipated future uses for plywood.
The "Miracle in Wood," along with five other films, is now being distributed by the plywood association with no booking fee. The only cost is return postage and insurance. Deocy Stumps fhe North
Ted Deacy, owner-operator of the Ted Deacy Company, and Bob Goetze, sales manager, have just returned from a l0-day buying stump that took them from San Francisco through southern Oregon and 46 mills.
The purpose, other than buying, Deacy stated, "was to see a lot of old friends and brief them on the new operation."
Deacy was able to visit nearly everyone of his contacts, past and present. This included the suppliers of over 90o/a of. Deacy redwood, fir and pine. Deacy said he intends to make several more such trips before the year is out.
Of the 2,000 plus miles Deacy and Goetze motored, over half was through the redwood country, where Deacy started his lumber career and from where he is supplied his chief line.
The Ted Deacy Company opened for business early last month.
