U.S. Rejects lmmediate GGA Ban
The Consumer Product Safety Commission rejected environmentalist organizations' request for an immediate ban on CCA treated lumber.
The federal regulators unanimously voted to uphold its staff's determination and recommendation that a ban was unneccessary, primarily because CCA was already being phased out for residential uses by year's end.
Since the phase out applies only to new products, the commission and the EPA are investigating options for coating existing CCA structures.
